Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

This is an exceptional hotel. The setting is beautiful, and the rooms and guest areas are very well appointed. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, even helping us to book a snorkeling trip at very short notice. The hotel also has a large number of daily activities including walks into the Rasa Ria jungle reserve with the hotels rangers. We can fully recommend a stay here!

Unfortuately we couldn't swim in the sea during our visit because of jellyfish, but the hotel's swimming pools more than made up for this.

The staff are incredible. Everywhere you go, if you walk past a staff member they smile and greet you. They also make an effort to get to know you. We really enjoyed the food, the service, watching the beautiful sunsets, sipping cocktails at the Sampan bar, the hotel cleanliness. We also enjoyed the bike ride, the nature walk and the fireflies. The night walk was pretty ordinary, but that was to be expected so close to the resort and with so many people walking and talking loudly!

Bed was big and ok, better than other places we have stayed in Asia but I just prefer beds that are not so hard and ones that have decent pillows. Unfortunately this pattern is repeated all over Asia so as I said this is better than most. Sandflies: They do warn you about them and its out of their control, just the nature of life in the Tropics, but the sandflies do get frisky in the afternoons!

The service was excellent, all the staff were professional and friendly. The fascilities were all in tip-top condition.

massage services were not within walking distance within the property, but were located in the golf club.

The pool was rather dirty. Had arranged for water sports but due to poor weather couldn't proceed, so decided to opt for spa session but was fully booked out. Had made dinner reservations ahead of time but was rescheduled to later.

The room and the facilities were exceptional. Just the TV inside the room is not working well. Breakfast is very nice in the Ocean Wing, with the premium ala carte options compared to the Garden Wing. Private pool is private and public pool is good especially for the kids (The pool has a slide). Food price is a bit expensive being in a 5 star resort, but Grab options are plenty. Location is quite far from the city center, so it was a really good location for a quiet and relaxation holiday. We had a wonderful stay there. The kids are happy with their bunk bed. Staffs were friendly and helpful.

There wasn't much variety, but the quality was good. It was inconvenient to not be able to put the food directly into the bowl as Covid is not over yet. There are two types of slides in the pool, so it is considered a great place for families with children. Massage in the hotel was convenient as it was 3-4 minutes away by shuttle bus. The massage facilities were good for the price.

It was a pity that it was a bit far from the airport to the hotel in about 45 minutes. However, seeing that the bridge pier is under construction, I expect to be able to go there in a shorter time. The room was somewhat luxurious, but the furniture and bathroom that looked a little outdated were a bit disappointing.

The place was amazing, really beautiful.. suitable for honeymoon, everything was literally there, lots of activities can be done. And watching the sunset was the highlight of the place. I reccomend these place for those who wants to experience nature sound.

The only thing was this place was far away from KK city. Funny thing these resort have 2 place, at the Tg Aru And Tuaran. We actually thought it was at Tg Aru but then we have mistaken place. Haha!

comfortable and peaceful

The hotel was well maintained and comfortable. it is right on the coast and there were a lot of a activities - we didn’t try many as we were mainly there to rest after a busy trip beforehand. the hotel has a lovely pool as well.

the area around the hotel is not much to speak of and it can take a while to get to Kota Kinabalu when there is traffic. the beaches on the islands were nicer in terms of snorkeling.

The hotel room is clean, tidy, and the dried fruit bag is a kind touch. Staff was helpful and kind. I am very disappointed that it took 45 minutes to Check-In, my mother is 76 years old and kept waiting for so long, but no apology was received. The location was superb, and the variety of food, including at breakfast at the hotel restaurant, was amazing and tasty. Thank you.

The 45 minute wait at the Reception with no apology or explanation. It was NOT a good start to our vacations.

The hotel complex itself is unbelievable. The golf-course is championship grade and rates are very affordable, the swimming pool is good and the whole hotel atmosphere is most welcoming. On top of that the staff are incredibly nice and accommodating, and the breakfast really is one of the best I’ve ever tried.

As per usual, hotel spas offer very little value for their prices in relation to facilities outside and this is no exception. I would recommend going outside for a grooming session. Additionally, the dining buffet is heavily meat-based and doesn’t offer many options for vegetarians and the other restaurants are not very accommodating either. There are many attractions in the hotel, such as water sports, golf and day trips, but unless you have children I feel like due to the remoteness of the location the place doesn’t lend itself to a very long stay - we spent 5 nights here and I would’ve been ok with a shorter stay. This was also impacted by the fact that there were jellyfish at the time at the beach and we could not really use the beach.

The telephone in the room need to be cleaned because there was an unpleasant odor on the phone receiver.

The food, activities, room, amenities, the beach, the ambiance, the pool, the jetskis haha, everything pretty much.

The way to the resort at night gets very dark and scary haha. The beach should be a bit more accessible at night.

Wish that they would clean up the beach a little more often. I know you get rubbish floating in from the sea but it’d be appreciated if the rubbish landing on the beach is collected in a higher frequency.
