8Amazing history, uncomfortable bed, expensive food and add-ons: but ultimately still worthwhile.

We stayed on the 5th (top) floor. Our room had a nice view looking over the beach. The hotel is over 100 years old, and they've done a lovely job with restorations. We recommend the history tour (costs $40 per person). Lots of space on the beach and they provide free towels. Many restaurants within walking distance. Feels very luxe at the hotel. Lastly, their fitness room had two squat racks, which is unheard of and was awesome! Also they give you a phone # that you can text for help with absolutely anything, which is very convenient.
As you might expect at a place like this, virtually everything "extra" is extremely pricey. We had breakfast at the Sheerwater restaurant one morning -- food was *great* but the total bill for our 2 breakfast plates plus 2 coffees was $80. We couldn't even get into the fancy restaurant, Serea, because apparently they book up completely a week out and of course we didn't know this before arriving. Many restaurants in walking distance also tend to book up with reservations, but it was easier to get a spot for the next day at places we tried to walk up that were full. Again, food and drinks at the Sun Deck is very expensive, though our piña coladas were delicious. And there is a taco stand by the beach which is convenient for lunch if you want to stay out, but tacos are $8 each and drinks are $10+. An "all inclusive" day at their beach area costs $50 per person (per day) for a chair/lounge and an umbrella, plus food service from a dedicated server (food extra, obvs). We just rented chairs and an umbrella from Little Sam's Island & Beach Fun across the street for $24 total instead. Plus the hotel won't let you take their stuff very close to the water, so you're set back pretty far on the beach. Other than the pricey-ness, our main complaints were related to our room: the bed was not very comfortable; one night we got so much noise (and vibrations coming through the wall) from our neighbors that we slept horribly; and there were ants coming into our bathroom through a crack in the shower tile/grout. That being said, once we complained they sent someone who completely re-grouted/sealed the shower tile, so that did fix the problem.

We stayed in The Views with a beach view. The rooms were modern, large and or course the view was amazing. Loved the taco bar, music and drinks! We booked an amazing photographer and had hair and makeup come to our hotel for a beach shoot with the Del in the background. Our photographer had us shoot down in the dunes across from 555 ocean beach around 7pm the sunset was so pretty and it captured the del perfectly.
The only negative at staying in The Views building while under construction is that you can’t park closely. We had plans and didn’t have time to wait for the luggage to be delivered, so hauling luggage was no fun for a family. Tip pack a small bag with your change of clothes, your bathing suits, etc. so you can change and have fun while waiting for your luggage! Overall the ambiance was magical and so fun!
8charming hotel. will be stunning when the original building is renovated

We love how pet friendly the hotel is- our Pomeranian had a great time. We really appreciated how nice the staff was. The location is great. The rooms are modern and comfortable and have amazing views! The ghost tour was very interesting. The ice cream shop on site is AMAZING!
1Construction war zone!!! That’s awesome hat your website should say.

We liked the restaurants and shops off property.
I spent the extra money and booked a nicer room with a fire pit. Nothing on mentioned a redevelopment view. When we checked in they told us we have a redevelopment view. We didn’t know exactly what that meant. Maybe a view of construction? Our fire pit, partial ocean view meant a a view of a fence, 15 feet from our door. Constant construction noise and a staff that doesn’t care about it. They said it starts from 7am-7pm. It’s currently 5:30am PST and I am awake typing this listening to a drill and hammer. I’m sure everyone complains and there isn’t anything they can do but take your money and just say sorry. Don’t stay here until it’s done. Maybe 1-2 more years. Stay away! I posted pictures of our trip on social media and most my friends commented and shared the same experience as I did.
2The staff was incredibly rude, our room was incorrect then had to argue with the manager to get the correct room. Then w

We liked the close proximity to the ocean
It was very dirty and poorly maintained for the price of their rooms.
1Although we made the most of it, overall our accommodations were an extreme disappointment

We had dinner at their restaurant that was very good, with nice service and atmosphere. The Serea We enjoyed exploring the grounds
We booked for a King Ocean View with a balcony in the Victorian wing. But when we checked in, they said we were booked for a room in their newer tower called the Views. We did not want that room we had specifically wanted the nastalgia of staying at the original hotel and were charged $1,000.00 at the time of booking, even though your website stated that we wouldn't have to pay until check-in. Then when we checked in, we were sadly disappointed to learn that we didnt have the room we wanted. And they said there was nothing they could do since we booked through I will probably never use your website again.
