Just close enough and just far enough away. The owners were great and communicated very effectively. The house was clean and had everything you needed to have a great stay. Jun 2021We thoroughly enjoyed our week away nestled in the trees. Joan and Ben are the best, they were always there to answer questions and communicated with us at every turn. The house was perfect for our family of 4, which includes a pre-teen and a teen. We had space enough to be together, eat meals and play games but also time to separate and have time to ourselves. The house is within walking distance to everything in town and we took advantage of that over parking as much as possible. We look forward to returning in the future. Weiterlesen

Sep 2019We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ben & Joan's Bar Harbor house. Everything was as advertised in this spacious house. The living room furniture was especially comfortable with plenty of seating. There were many games and guide books for us to use.
The cable TV worked great. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of extra blankets for the cool nights. The kitchen was very well equipped-although we don't cook on our vacations! The fire pit (wood provided) was a wonderful way to wind down and enjoy the cool air. I enjoyed sitting on the patio with my coffee in the morning. The location was perfect for us - outside of the insanity of downtown Bar Harbor, but within a 10-15 minute walk. We were able to walk into town every night to enjoy the restaurants and shopping after the cruise ships left and crowds thinned. The only reason I didn't give this house five stars is because of cleanliness. The floors and living room rug weren't clean and the bathroom floors, showers and tub could have used a good scrub. Otherwise I recommend this house - we really enjoyed our stay here! Weiterlesen

Aug 2020We really enjoyed our stay! The house was clean, was well equipped with kitchen utensils and cookware. It was very nice to not have to pack sheets and towels as well! The house is positioned on a very quite road with easy access to Bar Harbor. We walked into town and also road our bikes as it was a nice short distance. Ben was easy to deal with, very responsive, and provided great information about the local area. We are already looking forward to our next stay! Weiterlesen

Jul 2021We really enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor! This property was perfect, as it was within walking distance to the fun downtown Bar Harbor area. The hosts were so helpful upon our arrival making sure we had everything we needed to make our check in as seamless as possible. The house was clean and spacious and had all the amenities we needed including grill, campfire, indoor and outdoor dining, plenty of sleeping space and two full bathrooms. We visited Acadia for the first time with our family of 4 and couldn’t have been happier with our stay. As a surprise addition to the trip, we took in the fireworks on the water downtown and they were spectacular only to be surpassed by the breathtaking views atop the mountains. Aug 2020We loved our stay at Strawberry Hill House. The house is charming and clean and met all of our needs. Each of our three teenage children had their own room which worked perfectly. We walked often to town which was a treat and the house is minutes from Acadia. The location is ideal. Ben was extremely accommodating, helpful and responsive. Jun 2021We can't say enough about the property! There were fresh cut flowers and a container of ginger cookies when we arrived, those little things mean so much!! The house was extremely clean and has everything you need for a stay just like home. There was plenty of room for our family which consists of 3 families with 1 having 5 & 2 year old. The 2nd floor bedroom had a daybed ( a pull out bed was also under it) that the 2 year slept on which worked out perfect for her and her parents were in the same room. They didn't need a pac n play. We sat outside after our busy days in Acadia and town, the Baxters provide plenty of firewood for the firepit, we had 1 fire, it was too windy all the other days, didn't want to be those people that burned down Acadia.The wildlife was great, a few deer and one even had a fawn with her, walking by every day and even bedding down on the property, chipmunks scurry around, birds at the feeders and a family of ducks at the creek. The walk to town is very short, my husband has trouble walking and was able to do it a few times instead of trying to find a parking place. The road is not busy with traffic, it's a very quiet area and easy to find. Thank you Ben and Joan for letting us enjoy your property, your hospitality was fantastic and we can't wait to come back!! Aug 2021This was the perfect place to hold a long overdue family reunion. We gathered around the fire pit in the evening to share our hikes and catch up in general.
The location was very convenient to Acadia and a short walk to Bar Harbor. Everything in the house was clean and in good working order.

It is about a 15 minute walk into heart of Bar Harbor or to Compass Harbor Trail, which we loved and also short drive into Acadia. It is a very comfortable and homey cottage to spend a relaxing week. We loved that we could walk to town for dinner or ice cream or drive into Acadia within minutes. We were able to cook several meals at the house including lobster in the big lobster pot on the back deck. Aug 2019The property wasn't perfect (a bit dated) but it was everything we needed. We were thrilled with the location. So close to the shore and town, yet felt very private. The stretch of woods next to property was the perfect view for morning coffee and roasting s'mores. Most meals were prepared in the Kitchen (plenty room for family to work together). House was as described, very clean and well equipped, just about everything you could want for your stay, and thoughtful touches in decorating and amenities. Felt like home. Jul 2021Our stay at Strawberry house was wonderful. It was perfect for our family of four and could have comfortably fit more. The amenities were everything we needed and then some. The linens and towels provided were soft and clean and it was nice not having to pack all that for the road trip. Our teen loved the loft bedroom to get away for privacy. We enjoyed the quiet walk into town to avoid parking and the close proximity to Acadia National Park. The house was safe, clean and homey, you can tell Ben and Joan put a lot of love into the place and making it easy for guests to get settled in. We would highly recommend this house and would definitely stay here again. This was our 1st VRBO experience and my only concern is that our next couldn’t possibly live up to Strawberry house! Sep 2021Our family stayed at Strawberry Hill for two weeks at the end of summer. The house is very comfortable with a wooded setting and beautiful, large deck for enjoying the outdoors. The master bedroom feels you're in a tree house!! It's a quick walk to town for all that Bar Harbor offers. We also found hikes that we could take directly from the house. May 2021My family of four enjoyed our week here. The home was clean and very comfortable. The home was well stocked, we even found a couple of new to us board games that we enjoyed. The beds and sofas felt good after a long day of hiking and we enjoyed the location, close enough to town to walk in, but not part of the hustle and bustle. Many days we enjoyed a quick walk to compass harbor to skip stones, which was one of our favorite hidden gems (although maybe in season it wouldn’t feel so hidden- in April we always had it to ourselves). Oct 2019My family and I spent 7 days here at this property. We really enjoyed the house and would stay here again. The house was clean and very comfortable and within walking distance of downtown and Acadia National Park (if you are a hiker). The bedrooms are nice, especially the two king bed rooms. Beds and bedding are great. Bathrooms are nice and clean with nice towels. The library has a wonderful Murphy bed and my sister said it was very comfortable. We enjoyed having the kitchen, and the gas grill outside. We cooked our breakfast and some of our meals here. The only reason I did not give it a five rating is because there are no curtains in the master bedroom BUT, you are in the woods and not much chance of people looking in. May 2021Ben's house was one of the best places I've ever stayed and he was a super accommodating and fast-responding host as well. The location is the perfect distance between Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor. It's an easy walk into town (10-15 min) whilst still being able to have privacy away from the hustle of downtown.
One morning we experienced a power surge in the kitchen due to using too many appliances at once but Ben responded so quickly and the problem was resolved within the hour. It really wasn't an issue at all.
The house is well stocked with anything a family could really need on a trip. There were plenty of kitchen items, bathroom items, and super comfy beds. The backyard had 2 propane tanks for the grill, some kindle for the firepit, bug spray/ a bug-repelling candle, as well as a cute swing.
My family and I would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend this house. Weiterlesen

Jul 2022Ben and Joan were great hosts. The house was spotless upon arrival and started us off on the right foot to enjoy a great week in Bar Harbor. Downtown is indeed walkable with a 4 and 8 yr old, taking about 10 minutes to reach CJ’s ice cream. The house and deck are partly shaded to allow enjoyable sitting and being on a hill allowed for a comforting breeze. Great location for getting on the park loop road and exploring Acadia.
