Oct 2022We loved that we could bring our dog. There were some issues that need to be fixed with the sliding doors, screens, curtain rod and some bathroom towel rods, but overall the location made up for most of these issues.

Aug 2019We loved swimming in the pool and going to the beach! It was a great spot to get together with our family from all over! Great value for the price. House isn’t the newest on the block but definitely has a good vibe, great views and nice porch sitting.
Lots of pots and pans and utensils included in the house (don’t worry about bringing your own)!
Beach access is a lot of stairs, so prepare for that if your bringing little kids and/or beach wagons (the wagons won’t make it!)
Overall pleasant experience.

We rented this house after debating on making the annual trip this year (Covid) so there were not many properties available that fit what we needed on shorter notice. I feel it is easy to tell the difference between someone’s beach house they love and rent to offset some expense, and an investment property the owner doesn’t want to have to put any money into. Guessing this one is the latter. Some basic upkeep and maintenance would make this house a much much more comfortable property. Pros:We are fortunate enough to be able to rent a beach house for a week with our family, therefore we had an amazing time! Short walk to the beach and close to Corolla stores and restaurantsPool is essential for the kiddos. Doggy friendly!Cul de sac is nice and quiet and the view is nice considering it’s not directly oceanfront. Sep 2019We came at the end of the season. Things are expected to happen. But we had quite a few issues. The air conditioner needed replaced. The house needs updated. Things need fixed.
The location to the beach is stellar. It was the selling point online. But the property was in need of attention.

Jun 2020This location is great for a smaller family getaway. We had 5 adults, 3 kids and two dogs and everyone had more than enough space. The pool and hot tub are a great addition and perfect after a beach day. We love LOVE love the location. Literally 3 minute walk and you are in front of the waves.

May 2021The property was in a nice location and had nice amenities like pool and hot tub. The house was under some construction during our stay, so we did find some nails on the ground, that we had to remove to avoid injury to our dog.

I highly suggest a better cleaning crew as one of the bedrooms had a dirty baby diaper under it and a cup with something that's smelled terrible in it under another bed. Over all experience was very good. We love the OBX

Jun 2020The house was clean, but the cleaning lady was there until well after 4pm (our check-in time). There are many things that need updated and fixed. The curb appeal of this home is atrocious, but the inside functioned well enough for a week vacation. The best thing about this home is the location—it is at the end of a dead end road, and close to the beach. The private pool and hot tub were great, although the pool needs some serious work to stay functional in the future. Overall this house met the minimum needs for a vacay, but may not in the very near future due to some serious needs for updates and repairs.

The landscape needs a lot of attention, the bushes along the drive need to be trimmed. The rental agency was quick to respond to the issues.

A very short walk to the beach. Look to the left and the beach is empty! And there’s a pool. Not many of the houses near us had one so this was a definite plus. The house....ouch. The house needs some major love. The interior was repainted at some point but it’s a terrible paint job with mismatched colors used during touch-ups. The kitchen is pretty gross. I really have no words for the backsplash behind the stove. The fridge has something growing on the handle. And then there’s the decking. Some boards have been replaced. Some are painted, some are stained. The bathrooms are in need of updating and fixing the holes in the downstairs shower stalls. The owners really need to find a reputable person to do some quality updates to this house. I did appreciate the updated flooring on the main level!

The outside amenities (pool and hottub) are amazing and the location is very convenient. The house was very dirty when we first arrived and I had to spend the first day cleaning everything. The house itself needs a lot of maintenance and updating and the carpet definitely needs replaced.

When we arrived the place was filthy. The bathrooms were slightly clean, but the counters not wiped, floors never vacuumed or cleaned. There were rat size hair balls behind doors, under my bed, that blew out when we opened doors, and clumps in the middleOf the floor. There were old peanuts in the bathroom, pieces of lettuce on the floor; it was gross! I had twin one year olds crawling on the floor eating sand, hair, and dirt. I called Carolina shores and they promised to send someone out to clean. Later that day they claimed they did, and the cleaning lady said she cleaned around our stuff. LIE. Still not vacuumed etc. did I mention the comforters had dog hair all over them. Before we even went to the beach, my children complained of sand in their bed that had to have been dragged in on their feet from the dirty floor. Needless to say I had to clean the place myself because I needed to be able to let my babies on the ground. Lastly, a live cockroach fell on my head when we turned the fan on. It was horrible! All in all, the only credit I can give is they refunded me $90 for the cleaning. Will never stay here again.

The booking process was easy, the company was very responsive via phone and email. The Dakota Blue Jay could use a little TLC and a good deep-deep clean. BUT keep in mind this is thankfully a pet friendly rental, and it would appear some people simply weren't respectful in the unit with their pet, and left hidden proof behind that my dog sniffed out. The unit is also older, AC has a hard time keeping the entire house at desired temperature, especially in bedrooms downstairs. The outside grill had rusted through and was in half - we never got to use it. The house needs a good paint was comfortable enough though, kitchen had everything we needed, good living room space. For the purpose of our family and dogs, this unit worked perfect for our needs; great location, private pool, plenty of bathrooms. We really enjoyed our stay, and I consider my qualms of the unit needing some TLC and cosmetic repairs to be minor. If in the OBX again, I'd consider renting again. The company was pleasant and easy to communicate with, my family was comfortable and had a great time, and it served all of our family's needs perfectly.

Pictures of the property displayed umbrellas on the porch and around the pool, yet were not provided. The concrete around the pool was crumbling and falling apart. The hot tub jets did not work and could not be repaired as they did not have the parts. The mattresses were awful quality, beds classified as twin beds were no more than trundle 4 inch cot mattresses, the inside of the fridge leaked, and the washer, located under the house, leaked water onto the floor. Straightforwardly, the property needs a major overhaul. After I spent the first day washing all of the linens and disinfecting everything, my family enjoyed spending quality time with one another. A positive review I can offer includes the location of the property and short walk to the ocean. Regrettably, I would not recommend Dakota Blue Jay.
