Jul 2019Wonderful views of Mackinac Bridge and Island, as well as Bois Blanc Island. Water was crystal clear with nice sand beach. Kids and adults enjoyed it. Close to dining and shopping. Took our first trip to Pictured Rocks in UP and it was amazingly beautiful by boat tour. We are grateful for the time spent with family.

Jul 2021We were quite pleased to enjoy the hospitality of our hosts here in June of 2021!The property was conspicuously quiet and peaceful; it makes for an excellent place to sit back and unwind. The view of the south passage is quite impressive and expansive; its a neat pastime to watch the lake freighters come and go.The picturesque vista spills into the dining room, adding several extra minutes to each meal as you periodically find yourself distracted by the view. Even though there was ample room indoors for our group to spread out, we ended up spending a great deal of time outside on the deck. Throughout the house you'll find the owner's personal touch, adding a welcoming and homey feel. The location in Cheboygan made for a most convenient basecamp for exploring the greater Mackinac area and the eastern section of the UP. We utilized this space for a scuba diving expedition and the large garage was a very valuable asset given the copious amount of gear involved!I can highly recommend this spot for the group looking for that laidback spot to step away from the work-a-day world and decompress.

Aug 2020We were a family of 10, six adults and four kids. The house gave us plenty of room to spread out without being on top of each other. The queen beds were very comfortable for the adults. I would like to see a bunk bed instead of a single in the one bedroom which would allow 2 kids to use that room. The hide a bed was a bit uncomfortable after a couple of nights so we didn’t utilize it. It may be ok for smaller children.
This property has a wonderful location. The setting is gorgeous. We spent most of our time outdoors on the deck or the beach. The proximity to the water was such that we could watch the kids at the beach from the deck if we chose to. The yard was very large and we set up badminton, ladderball, and cornhole. We had bonfires at the beach and could see The Bridge lit up at night. We used the kayaks almost every day and enjoyed the lake all day long.
Overall, a great place for families!

Aug 2020We stayed here last year, as well. The location is great for us, since we keep our sailboat at Duncan Bay. There is plenty of room (6 adults and two toddlers), and the beach is right out the door. The addition of a new deck and pergola were very welcoming. With the view and spacious yard. you’re outside all day!

Jul 2020We had an amazing week here with everything we needed. We had plenty of room indoors and outdoors. Loved being right on the water that was shallow pretty far out with beautiful views from the deck and easy kayaking/swimming. Hope to come back!

Aug 2019We had 2 families stay at the house. 5 kids under 12! There was lots of room for us to play and have our own space. The location was great! Awesome views of the bridge and a short drive to Mackinac Island. The beach was great. It was sandy and shallow enough that we could let the kids play without worrying about them. The only slightly negative thing to say is that the some of the finishings are a little older, but everything was nice and clean. We had a great stay!! Thanks to the Porters for allowing us to stay at their house!

Sep 2018We enjoyed the location of your home to the activities we planned during our stay. The lake view was beautiful as well. As a group we all agree that your home needs a thorough cleaning which includes your carpets and furniture, kitchen cupboards and stove and oven. The washer put out a bad odor which was a deterrent to doing laundry. We hope you will consider our suggestions so that others who rent later will have a more positive experience.

Jul 2020We enjoyed a great week at this Lake Huron cottage. It is an older home reminiscent of Grandma's cottage. It has the quirks and odors commonly associated with vintage homes and was full of the owner's personal property and we felt very "at home". If you need modern, completely empty except for necessary furnishings, you may not enjoy this home as much as we did. One bedroom was quite musty smelling and caused some problems with allergies but there was plenty of space to switch sleeping arrangements around and make it work for everyone. Home is large with 2 large sitting areas - both had lake views. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need (including a Keurig, drip coffee pot and electric percolator pot). 3 full bathrooms and plenty of hot water for a large group, propane grill, plenty of seating indoors and out. The beautiful new deck with comfortable chairs was our favorite spot beside the beach. Beach is small this year due to high water levels but was very adequate for sunbathing, sandcastle building, campfires and relaxing. We saw many freighters, barges, coast guard ship etc and found more info on each ship on marinetraffic.com which was interesting! Kayaks are in great shape and we used them often. Bikes were adequate for short rides. We went to the Nature Sanctuary a couple of times for an enjoyable walk. We also took advantage of the Marina pool one day when lake waves were a little to much for toddler. Weather was gorgeous and mosquitoes were not a problem! We would stay here again if we are in this area. Thanks Porters for a great week!

Aug 2019We chose this home based on its location, plus it was large enough to comfortably accommodate six adults and two toddlers.
It was a great week. We hope to return next year.

Sep 2020We are a group of retired nurses that get together annually for a long weekend, the house is perfect for us, we can enjoy the water views, the LOVELY new deck, and the living space is all on 1 floor (most of us are seniors), and no stairs to the beach. Hope to return every year. Thank you so much for such a nice property.

Jul 2019We all had a delightful time at this home. . . our 4th visit over 28 years! It was spotless, positioned perfectly, right on Lake Huron, and had ample room for grandparents, parents and kids to find their own space. I enjoyed being a grandmom bringing our daughter back for a visit with her OWN kids. MY mom had rented the property in the 90's for HER kids and grandkids to enjoy. Truly, history repeated itself and more happy memories were made.

Aug 2020Very peaceful and tranquil. Listening to the waves at night is lovely. We saw two bald eagles and a red fox. Stars at night (even though we were at the edge of a town) were magnificent. The house was plenty big for our family of 7 plus a baby. Plenty of interesting day trips if you’re energetic.

Jul 2020This was our third year in Cheybogan, we enjoyed the sunsets (stunning) and the house (charming). The place is a prize for all and we truly appreciate how welcome and convenient this property is, enough bedrooms and bathrooms for all, loved it. Thank you, it really was a great vacation for a large family.

Jul 2019This was our second time at this property, the beach is ideal for small and large kids alike. Having three full baths is a major plus and everyone really enjoyed their stay. There was plenty to do not only in Cheybogan but many other places within 30 minutes or so, we rent a cottage every summer and this was our first time going to same location, really appreciate this location.

Aug 2018This place is amazing! There was 6 adults and 2 children, there was room for all of us.The house was Huge! We could spend time together or go off to another part of the house or outside. The water was awesome, not deep at all and we all spent time on the beach or in the water. The kayaks were fun, my 11 year old granddaughter was able to take one out by herself, her cousin did too, first time kayaker. Nice area on beach for campfire. It was so peaceful and quiet. We had a wonderful time at your home, we didn't want to leave. We are hoping to come back next year on our annual family vacation.😟 Thank you so much. Celia F and family.

Aug 2022This lake home was just what we needed for our end-of-summer vacation! We had two families here with kids ages 7-17. The house was exactly as advertised - plenty of space, comfortable beds, nice kitchen appliances. The home is older and well-loved and was very comfortable for our crew. But the shining star is the back yard and lake front. We spent 95% of our time outside on the deck, in the hot tub, on the beach, and in the water. The lake is shallow for at least 150 yards out from the beach and we were in the water every day. The kayaks were a great amenity and we brought our inflatable paddleboard which we used daily. Great views and beautiful sunsets. The backyard was spacious - we brought our own yard games (spike ball, cross net) and the kids played outside all day...even the teenagers! We did day trips to Mackinac Island, Tahquamenom Falls, Sault Ste. Marie, and Harbor Springs/Petoskey - lots of options within an easy drive. Valerie (the owner) was very responsive to our needs and questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and hope to come back again some day.

Jul 2022There is so much to love about this house. First of all is the location: right on Lake Huron with a nice beach, views of the Mackinac Bridge, Bois Blanc Island, and freighters. The deck and hot tub are simply amazing. Plenty of room to spread out even with 6 of us in the house. We got lots of use out of the bikes and kayaks. All the other details of renting were super smooth. Communication was great before, during, and after. Check-in was simple, and check-out tasks were minimal. This was our second time staying here, and we can't wait for the next! Thanks again for making such a great place available for others to enjoy!

Jul 2019The house was great for a three-generation family vacation. Five bedrooms was perfect for our family. Having a separate family room, living room, dining room and deck was great for everyone to spread out, and room for everyone to sit at dining table to eat or play games. Room for everyone to spend time together, and space to be alone when needed. Kitchen could use a better frying pan, but otherwise very well stocked with nice appliances. Ice maker, dishwasher and washer and dryer a bonus.
Huge yard, great for kids and to play corn hole and bocce ball. Shallow enough water at the beach for young kids to play. Saw the eagle go by almost every day, freighters passing by and lots of sail boats. A short drive to Mackinaw City for a day trip and to Petosky to hunt for Petosky stones.
One bedroom needed extra cleaning, but after informing caretaker of this, it was taken care of within 2 hours. Tim had great tips for things to do and see in the area.
Plenty of parking and nice secluded area.
Overall, family had a wonderful vacation. Will certainly come back again.
Thanks Valerie for sharing your home with us.

Jul 2021The beach and view are terrific. Loved the kayaks and bikes. Near trails for all ability levels. Enjoyed watching the occasional freighter go by (at a distance) and beautiful sunsets. The water was shallow for a ways out and warmed well in the sun. The separate living room and TV rooms were perfect for kids and adults to spread out. Nice kitchen and plenty of room.

Jul 2021My family and I could not have found a better property for our family trip. We were a group of 9 people (3 generations!) and everyone had plenty of space to spread out and be comfortable in the spacious living areas and bedrooms. The dining room and table were big enough to seat our entire party for family meals, and it was so wonderful to open up the windows and get a lovely breeze from the lake or listen to the waves in the mornings. The walk to the beach was flat, and the beach itself is reasonably close to the home, so everyone in our party was able to access the beach and lake easily. The phenomenal lake views, sunsets and boat watching could not be beat. There was truly something for everyone at this home. We all enjoyed taking the kayaks out and keeping a look out for local fish and fowl. For the 3 kiddos, the play set in the front yard was a real winner! We all loved collecting interesting pieces of driftwood or stones that washed along the shore. The ride into town and the local shops and Wal Mart was very reasonable (5-10 minutes) and this location was also a great jumping off point for the other areas we explored, like Mackinac Island and the Soo Locks. We absolutely would recommend this property, and look forward to hopefully returning in future years!
