Feb 2022While we did have a good time in Arnold and realize that some of the factors affecting our stay were beyond the owner's control (e.g., wifi out & no service), we can’t leave a completely positive review. We did appreciate the communication Jim had throughout which certainly helped matters but there were issues that we think need addressing.To begin with, the drive way was not cleared very well when we arrived and it is rather steep which made it very difficult to get up to the house. While we realize that a strong storm had just come through, we felt that the prudent thing would’ve been to have someone come by and clear it, along with possibly the entrance to the house and access to the key lock which were both very difficult to access upon arrival. Secondly, upon arrival the house was very cold and the heating system took hours to heat it up. There was almost no dry wood in the house and there were no matches or a lighter with which to light it regardless. There were also no clear instructions for all of this inside the house or shared with us prior to arrival which made it difficult. Lastly, the house was not very clean, not what we'd expect upon arriving to a house for weekend trip. We cleaned out the coffee pot which was left dirty, some dishes, and realized there was dog fur all throughout the house.All in all, we enjoyed the trip to Arnold and appreciated the quiet neighborhood and location but would have enjoyed it even more without these hiccups along the way.

Sep 2022We really liked our staying in the cabin! It was extremely clean, nice decor everywhere, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, nice patio with chairs and table where we had our breakfast. Kids enjoyed playing outside on the backyard and front yard, very quiet place what was important for us. Jim is best! It was a pleasure communicate with him. Special thanks for the welcome surprise!

Aug 2018We loved this place! Our family (2 adults, 2 kids under 4 years old, and a dog) had a perfect amount of space for our 4-night stay. The proximity of the cabin was down the road from Calaveras Big Trees State Park, the river, lake in Arnold, and the market. It was a great way to unplug from the busy Silicon Valley lifestyle that we've been living with.
A few notes:
- We were there in the summer heatwave and had smoke from the Redding and Yosemite fires, so we wish there was another box fan or two in addition to the one that was there. There are ceiling fans in each room.
- The BBQ needs a little work since one of the ignition switches is out, but lighting it with a match was easy enough (and there are matches there).
- Bear-proofing the trash can would be helpful, since we picked-up garbage 2 of the nights after a visit from the residential bear (harmless, and fun to see!).
- Kitchen amenities are adequate and Dollar General and the Big Trees Market had the 2 items that we wanted and purchased, and then we left for the next renters.
- We brought most of our groceries, and ate at the Mexican food restaurant in town one night, and grabbed a shake at the burger joint across the street.
- Close to the house, our maps took us to a road that was closed for repair, so it was 20 minutes of back-tracking to the alternate route, so check with the owner to see what route to take in.
Overall, it's a great place to stay and we'll stay again! It was perfect for our getaway, and we loved the peace and quiet.

Oct 2019We had never been to Arnold before, so we were excited to stay in this cozy cabin.
Prior to our stay the owner called me and gave me some great tips on things to do in Arnold. WIthout the Owner's suggestions, we would have missed out on a lot.
The cabin was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) plus a dog. Appliances are newer, the kitchen is well stocked and the beds were comfortable. We always had plenty of hot water and the wall heaters worked well. The atmosphere was quiet and the neighborhood is really nice to walk.

Jul 2019This is a great property in a beautiful area of Arnold. The house is super clean, supplied with the basics, and a lovely deck to watch the beautiful sunsets in the middle of majestic trees. The house is well situated for afternoon walks and is in a quiet neighborhood. We really enjoyed our stay. The owner is accommodating and very friendly. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome. We highly recommend this property.

Jan 2019This house is located in a beautiful neighborhood that is far (but not too far) off of Highway 4. It's quiet, and while there are neighbors nearby, it feels quite private. The main comfort amenities of the house worked well and strong- wood fireplace (wood supply out back); hot water; water pressure; kitchen amenities; baseboard heaters; internet service; Roku/Netflix + more access- it was all easily accessible and without issues. The location was wonderful. We didn't use the outdoor area since it was cold but it would be great in warmer months, plus a nice barbecue that is not pictured. Small touches such as sensor nightlights in rooms, a large spice rack, cooking oil, marshmallows, ready ice cubes just added positively to the experience. The house was very clean and clearly well-cared for so I highly recommend it.

Feb 2019This cabin was perfect for our family of four. The kitchen was very nice and had all accommodations we needed for a weekend in the mountains. The wood burning fire place was perfect to warm the cabin. Rooms are spacious. The property around the house was perfect for playing in the snow. The owners were extremely friendly and contacted me before our stay to welcome and and give me tips about the area. The only thing I would change is to have a larger couch in the living room for family relaxation.

The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for! Only improvement needed is a new queen mattress:)

Aug 2021The place is very cute in the blue lake springs community. The only downside is the AC unit did not work very well and the hose on the back did not stay which resulting in hot air blowing out. It did smell like a dog had peed in the master bedroom. Other than that it was a good stay.

There was a mouse in the cabin; it left evidence in the kitchen and was active during the 3 nights that we were there. The fireplace does not work and the property manager did not respond when we called and left him a voicemail regarding the smoke not venting. The heaters do work well, so we were comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and had a great time playing in the snow!

May 2018The house is very nice and clean. Furniture, beds, and kitchen are in great condition. There is an ample supply of firewood for the fireplace. However, many amenities (some which I believe are necessities) are lacking. There is no TV (cable, dish or otherwise). The owner advised me to use my laptop to watch Netflix over Chromecast. I wanted to watch the Warriors playoff games, but, alas, could not. There is a DVD player, which works well. The outdoor grill had not been cleaned and ran out of propane on the first night of using it. There are no wine glasses in the house. The coffee maker doesn't work. A giant trash bid is set up in the living room. There was no soap or shampoo for the showers.

Dec 2020Overall, the family had a great time. Great location, very quiet/peaceful, away from HWY 4 & Moran Road. Visited Big Trees State Park and hiked local trails. Would have given 5 stars if there were more selection of pots, pans, blender given we enjoy cooking.

Aug 2022My favorite thing about the property is the clothes line. Even though there's a washer and drier, the clothes line with old school clothes pins was my fav. It was very quiet and only about fifteen minutes to Big Trees or the town of Arnold. Our host was most helpful with trout spots, places to eat. While the kitchen pots and pans were old, it go the job done. Thank god for the fans and AC. And when the smoke came we visited the caverns, both Mercer in Murphys and Moaning down the road. Overall I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Feb 2019My family and I enjoyed our stay! Jim was very helpful and accommodating. Our dog, 3 kids and husband and I all had plenty of space. The kids loved sledding on the driveway, a perfect sled hill! The house was stocked with plenty of sheets and towels for us all. We loved the Arnold area and will definitely return!

Aug 2020Just got home from our stay at this property. We had zero issues, check in and check out instructions were perfect and made everything a breeze.
We had an amazing and much needed break from the craziness of everything right now.
This home is welcoming and comfortable, the surroundings are beautiful and relaxing.
The master bed is very comfortable and the air conditioner in the bedroom made it so much easier to sleep as the temperature climbed!
We didn’t do any cooking in the kitchen but the grill was used multiple times and worked perfectly.
There’s a good sized grocery store as well as several restaurants nearby.
We looked forward to sitting out back every evening and looking up at the multitude of stars that are just not visible at home in the bay area.
The only complaint that I have is that our trip was far too short.
Next time will be longer!

Aug 2021Jim was an excellent property manager as well as he could be. We arrived and there were still two cars full of families at the property at check-in time. They seemed unaware we would be coming. We called Jim and the people there (apparently the cleaner's family?) said they would clean up and be out of there in about an hour and a half. We have a 6 year old daughter and twin 3 year old boys. It took us over 3.5 hours to get there so this was a bit unsettling. Also, during COVID times it was very nerve-wracking for us and we felt like there was no way the place could have possibly been fully cleaned at that time. We ended up only staying one night of our 3 night reservation due to the circumstances. Again, can't speak highly enough of Jim and how he tried to handle it. But this was just a really unfortunate situation during a pandemic to come upon as our first family vacation in a while!

Aug 2021Jim was an excellent property manager as well as he could be. We arrived and there were still two cars full of families at the property at check-in time. They seemed unaware we would be coming. We called Jim and the people there (apparently the cleaner's family?) said they would clean up and be out of there in about an hour and a half. We have a 6 year old daughter and twin 3 year old boys. It took us over 3.5 hours to get there so this was a bit unsettling. Also, during COVID times it was very nerve-wracking for us and we felt like there was no way the place could have possibly been fully cleaned at that time. Jul 2020I was surprised that the beds were not made. Sheets were clean and folded but the last thing I wanted to do after traveling was make beds. I also didn’t realize I would need to bring towels. There was 2 bath towels but no hand towels in the whole house. The beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were hard and flat. Also, no air conditioning made for uncomfortable sleeping. Overall, the house was clean and in a good, quiet neighborhood and we even saw a bear stroll right through the front yard.

Jun 2022If you want quiet and private get-away in a beautiful setting, this is it! Town is only 2 miles away with a nearby lake. Had a couple of issues, but the owner took care of them himself.

Aug 2019House was clean, cozy and well stocked. The outdoors space is gorgeous! We spent most of our time outdoors, letting the kids run around and eating on the deck. Very quiet and peaceful, great location!
House could definitely use some updating here and there. Small details that would make it feel more welcoming, warm and home-like. It got very hot and stuffy indoors so sleeping wasn’t super comfortable. There are ceiling fans and one box fan for the whole house. The washer & dryer are IN the second bedroom, which made the room even hotter when ran.
There is no access to the Blue Lake Springs pool and lakes. There are still plenty of other fantastic options (love Murphy’s Creek), but I didn’t realize there would be no access before booking.

Dec 2020Hardly any cooking/baking; no toaster or kettle to boil water; all Teflon’s pans were scratched and unsafe to use; no working TV to hook up to to watch movies; tons of owner stuff thrown in closets. Comforted and sheets and table clothes seemed unfresh; open food in cupboards; garbage everywhere outside; also no instructions in fireplace or house.

Apr 2021Great location: House is in a great neigborhood and is on the end of the street so we had a GREAT view of the hillside and lots of space to build snowmen.Great Host: Jim answered my questions quickly! He provided a list of things to do in Arnold as well.We wanted a house in the snow, and this fit the bill perfectly. It had snowed a few days before we arrived, and also on the day we left - couldn't have planned that better. Will definitely go back, maybe try it in the summer.
