Jul 2019We were so very happy with our experience. Not only is the cabin fully equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom, grill, and linens, but paper goods, spring water, wood for the fire pit and a dish TV system.
Communication with the owner was superb, before and during our stay. The pond and views are beautiful and having access to multiple kayaks and a canoe makes enjoying the water that much better. We have three teenage girls who were very happy to swim, float or just sit by the lake. Cell service was wonderful, which was also a plus for three teenagers.
We took a few day trips, twice to Bar Harbor and once to Arcadia. Each were about an hour drive, but it goes quickly...so much to look at. Also, the grocery stores are about 30 minutes away, but we went once and had plenty of supplies for the week. If not there is a Dollar General about 15-20 minutes away.
I can’t say enough about how great a vacation this was. We have done the beach thing for a few years now so I wanted to change it up. This surpassed all my expectations. We were so comfortable, had plenty of space, and truly enjoyed the best Maine had to offer by way of seafood, scenery and wildlife. When you can go on a family vacation with that many people and not hear complaints...about anything...life is good.
Thank you for everything. Looking forward to visiting again!

Jun 2022We stayed 5 nights at the Back of the Moon cottage, and it was excellent. It was a jumping off point for our daily excursions to Acadia NP, Quobby Lighthouse, Cutler,, Shoranadic Byway, Bar Harbor and many other places. It was very relaxing returning to the 'off the beaten path' cottage to relax and enjoy the deck and a listen to the loons after of long day of touring. The family enjoyed 'lots' of seafood during the week (the lobster rolls and carb rolls were wonderful), in the area, and even we grilled burgers at the cottage one night. The cottage had everything we needed including comfortable beds - a real plus after a long day.Communications with the owner were timely and any questions we had where quickly answered. If you don't mind being a little off the beaten path, I would highly recommend the Back of the Moon cottage to anyone - hopefully we will be able to return in the future and enjoy the lake a little more. Thanks again for sharing your Back of the Moon cottage.Jim

Aug 2021We really enjoyed staying here. The water is nice and clear, and it's shallow for quite a ways out, so that's helpful if you have small children. The back deck is great, and it was fun to use the kayaks and canoe. Also, it's on a really quiet road, so it's a very peaceful setting. In addition, the owner is super nice and readily available to answer questions and any concerns.

Sep 2020We really enjoyed our time on the pond - very quiet, peaceful! everything we needed was available for us - we loved just sitting on the deck and watching nature! We went to Acadia a couple of times and it was close enough! The only downside was the dirt road but that is because our car is very low.. (I understand the road is not the owners problem) -- I would highly recommend this location!!! Loved it!

Jul 2018We loved our family vacation to the Back of the Moon Cottage. Was a welcome sight after our long drive. The cottage provided all the amenities...and our host was always available...only a phone call away. Neighbors were kind and courteous and made the cottage feel like home. Morning kayaking among the soaring eagles and diving loons...grilled dinners on the deck...and nightime campfires spent listening to the loons...will not be forgotten. Thank you for sharing your home with our family, Sharon. : )

Jul 2018We had a very enjoyable stay at the cottage. We saw an eagle from the front deck and also an otter above Sharons Hill. We went kayaking to the island on the pond also took a short walk along a trail to the beach. Spent two days at Winter Harbor and two days at Bar Harbor. Sharon was fantastic! it was an awesome stay at the cottage!

Aug 2022We had a great time at this cottage. The best part was the lake . It was wonderful to be so close to this beautiful body of water. We enjoyed sitting on the deck (which has comfortable sitting arrangements and is beautifully decorated with solar lights) and taking in the view. We all loved the experience of staying in a place that seemed so tucked away from urban settings. We went canoeing on the lake . Wanted to take a dip in the lake but missed the chance. The house is cozy and has just enough space for our family of four. It is clean and comfortable inside the house. And the owner has stocked up the place very well with everything you need in your daily life, from kitchen utensils, coffee, condiments , plates, cups to tolltaries, vanity mirror and hair dryer. The cottage has a tree house with bunk beds and an outside shower which are plus. It is situated down an unpaved , dirt road which should not be an issue (especially with a bigger vehicle or SUV) and in fact adds to its wilderness vibe. We wish to come back here again soon.

Sep 2018We adored Sharon’s well kept and clean camp and all the amenities. We slept peacefully in the comfortable beds and woke up to beautiful water views. We enjoyed morning coffee on the roomy, brand new deck each day before jumping in the water and kayaking! The outdoor shower was a bonus and a must do after hiking or swimming. We spent one day at Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor eating lobster rolls and taking in the beautiful views of Cadillac Mountain. The drive was accurately described. Our evenings were spent making s’mores by the fire pit. Sharon is so accommodating and knows how to make her guests feel welcomed. I hope to return again!! Thanks Sharon!

Aug 2018This was our 2nd summer staying here because we liked it so much the 1st year. The new, large deck overlooking the water is the gem of this camp. The long metal dock extends into the clean, sandy water. The interior is comfy with rustic charm. The owner, Sharon, is the nicest host and so accommodating. The house sits back from the road and is very private. The house is stocked with everything you would need, including bottled drinking water. This is really a place you need to see to believe.

Aug 2021This is a small, cute, well-maintained waterfront house with rustic kitchen, one indoor bathroom plus outdoor facilities (a heated outdoor shower and a portable toilet serviced weekly) and enough beds in the main building for six people. The deck and dock were great for dining and morning coffee. In my view, the surroundings are extraordinarily pretty. This is a great place for flat water paddling, hiking, swimming, watching birds (eagles, loons, hummingbirds...) less frequently seen in urban and suburban settings. I thought it was a great home base for visiting coastal attractions (e.g. sightseeing tours, Acadia Park, seafood restaurants...). Bicycling appropriate for skilled riders is accessible directly from the property. Less challenging bicycling is accessible at Acadia Park. Nearby are Schoodic Beach and some hiking trails. The section of Sunrise Trail near the house has soft sandy surface popular with ATV users, is suitable for ATV and foot traffic. Many areas were difficult to negotiate on my bicycle with 700x32 tires. Most bicyclists on road, cyclo cross, or hybrid bikes are going to spend a lot of their ride dismounting and pushing at soft beach-like sandy stretches so I suggest mountain bike type tires (1.75" or wider). Back of the Moon is well off the beaten path. The tap water is not potable but the hostess delivers to the doorstep ample bottled water for drinking and cooking. It's well over a mile slow bumpy drive from the nearest paved road, plus another 4 miles or so on pavement to the nearest restaurant and a longer trip to the nearest store that has groceries. To me, the isolated location was a plus. That said, the house is within very reasonable driving distance of Acadia National Park and associated attractions. Congenial hostess Sharon was right up the road and checked in on us daily. We didn't lack anything. She won my approval.

Jul 2017This cozy cottage is much nicer than the pictures make it look. The lake setting is beautiful and there is so very much to do right around the cottage (another nearby lake with a beautiful sunset view and a short, but rigorous hike to the top of Schoodic Mountain) with great views and loads of lush blueberries! (We actually liked the vista from Schoodic Mountain better than the views from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park - partly because there were NO crowds and the view was still breathtaking!). The proximity to Acadia National Park makes day trips very doable - the drive times to Schoodic point and Bar Harbor were accurately described.
Sharon was a wonderful host. We arrived in a cool rain to find the cabin toasty warm with the heater on, electric candles flickering, and soft music playing. Was truly a WARM welcome that made us feel at home after a long drive. Sharon, thank you for being such great host and providing such a perfect setting for our family of 6 (my wife and I and our 2 sons age 21 and 19 and our 2 daughters age 14 and 16). There was plenty of room for us all to comfortably sleep. The mornings looking out over the lovely lake with a cup of coffee in hand while hearing the loons call was awesome, and the nights with the dark skies full of stars you could almost touch while hearing the loons plaintive, almost eerie calls was priceless. It was a first trip to Maine that our family will never forget. Partly because there is so much to see and do at Acadia National Park nearby, and partly because Sharon provided us with such a great place to relax and enjoy the views. We thoroughly enjoyed the kayaks and canoe as well. Thanks again Sharon and all the best to you as you rent this property to others to enjoy and make lasting memories. We hope to return sometime in the future and see you again!

Aug 2017The house is perfect! We had such a good time sitting on the deck and enjoying the views during the day and hanging around the fire pit at night. We went canoeing, for walks, to Lamoine Beach, and also picked some blueberries! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Thank you for letting us rent a piece of your paradise! We all can't wait to come back :)

We loved using the boats, fishing, listening to the loons and sitting at night as the waves crashed against the rocks. It was quaint and the perfect place to relax after visiting the beautiful sites of Acadia. I am thankful and feel very lucky that Sharon shared her cottage with us.

Aug 2021Sharon's camp was perfect for our family's stay in Maine. The camp has everything you need during your stay, from laundry detergent to shampoo to condiments. Our young kids loved sleeping in the tree house and loft. The Maine nights were cool and we loved going sleep listening to the family of loons on the lake. The lake was warm and we spend all day swimming and jumping off the dock. The camp is less than 30 minutes from the Schoodic part of Acadia National Park, and we enjoyed hiking and biking in the park. Even closer to the camp, we hiked Schoodic Mountain. The lake was so quiet. We barely saw another person. We kayaked and canoed around the lake, including out to the floating raft with a high dive, water slide, and rope swing. Sharon was so accommodating and helpful. She took my nephews out on the pontoon boat and provided more accessible sleeping arrangements for my older parents. The hummingbirds were another highlight. The outdoor shower was perfect.

Aug 2020My wife and I were looking for a spot to spend our 1st year anniversary after our initial plans fell through with all that us going on in the world.
Being forced to change plans was a blessing in disguise as it led to us booking a stay at Sharon’s cottage. Was so quiet and peaceful and within a reasonable driving distance to numerous activities. Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park - Mt Desert Island was about an hour drive with pretty scenery along the way. Acadia National Park - Schoodic Point was roughly 40 min or so and offered a lot smaller crowds and probably our favorite shoreline experience of the trip.
Sharon was great in making sure we arrived ok and stopped by to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. Gave us a great recommendation for nearby hike/beach areas that we were glad we took advantage of.
Cottage was well equipped with everything you could want - cookware, barbecue grill, plenty of mugs/dishes, beach towels, fire pit, kayaks, etc.
Morning coffee was great off the deck with a lot of hummingbird activity (I couldn’t get enough) to entertain us. Night time was absolutely amazing with the stargazing and sounds of common loons in the area.
I could go on and on about how great our stay was...hope to have a return trip to the cottage again!!!

Aug 2021My wife and I stayed at The Card Camp last year for our 1st anniversary in August of 2020 and we enjoyed it so much we decided to come back for our 2nd but with the entire family this time. This included my 13 year old stepdaughter, 10 year old stepson and 4 month old daughter. It was nice to see the kids' excitement when we arrived and the subsequent disconnect from their phone screens for the majority of our trip.We took advantage of the kayaks and canoe this time to hang out on the pond for the first day and at the end of the trip, both kids said it was their favorite day of the trip. There is a platform out in the pond with a platform to jump, rope swing and slide off of that was a lot of fun for all of us. Also had a close encounter with a family of common loons where we were able to listen to their calls and observe while out on the water.Outside of our time at the camp, we spent 3 days at Acadia National Park taking in the main sites on Mt Desert Island as well as spending an afternoon at Schoodic Point. Also did the nearby hike up Schoodic Mountain which was followed up with a quick dip at the beach.Paired our visits to Acadia with some time in Bar Harbor for food and souvenirs. Stewman's Lobster Pound and Bar Harbor Lobster Co, Testa's were all very good.Really is a great property to stay at and a beautiful part of the country to visit. I highly recommend and know that we will be back for another visit at some point. Also, was happy to see the hummingbird action again. Sharon, you'll have to let me know if you manage to get one to eat from the hand feeder :)Thanks again for allowing us to spend time at your place, greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the entire family!
