Oct 2022Wonderful former schoolhouse, filled with interesting antique finds, furniture and decor - brought into the 21st century with care and a sensitive balance between preservation of historic character and modern conveniences to make our stay both comfortable and special. Rich was the perfect host, communicative and helpful but unobtrusive and respectful of our privacy. The location was a perfect central base for our weeklong exploration of the surrounding Berkshire region!

Aug 2021We were so impressed with how well appointed the Stone School Cottage was, everything we needed was provided. The owners were welcoming and made themselves available should we need anything else. We so enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future.

Sep 2022We stayed at this property Sept 9 - 11th, and it was wonderful! Staying in a historical building that is certainly beloved by the community was a unique experience. You can sit and read all about the history of the school which is also provided. The home was extremely clean and the owners put special touches like fresh cut flowers in all the rooms and it is beautifully decorated and welcoming. The setting is perfect near a horse farm and just a few minutes from Mt. Greylock which we hiked on Saturday. The owner is so nice and checks in to make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely stay there again, and I highly recommend this property.

Jan 2019We stayed at the Stone School while skiing at nearby Jiminy Peak. Rich and Cheryl were great at communicating prior to and during our visit-- and provided some enjoyable meal recommendations. Our three daughters loved using the school space. The cottage was very comfortable notwithstanding the extreme cold temperatures on MLK Day. It is also very close to Jiminy for those interested in skiing while staying there.

Oct 2021We stayed at the Stone School Cottage for our 21st anniversary and had such an enjoyable stay. Communication prior to arrival was great. Our host Rich was extremely helpful and greeted us when we arrived. The cottage is an old one room school house and is tastefully done with period pieces. The classroom downstairs is filled with a lot of historical photos and written history and also has beautiful modern photos as well. The living quarters are upstairs with a four-poster bed and small kitchen (stairs are somewhat steep but have good handrails). The bathroom is downstairs and a little quirky in nature. Neither of these was a game breaker but something to consider if you have difficulty negotiating stairs. Very convenient location (25-30 minutes to Lenox and 20-25 minutes to Williamstown and a short drive to Greylock State Park). Neighbors have mini horses and alpacas within walking distance down the road which was a bonus for us as we are both horse/animal lovers. Would recommend this rental with two thumbs up (make that four thumbs up) and will definitely book again if/when planning a trip to the Berkshire’s.

May 2021We had a lovely stay at the Stone School Cottage, which is a pleasant blend of rustic antiques and modern amenities. Located on a country road, the cottage manages to feel very private while being only a 5 minute drive from local eateries. Rich and Cheryl were wonderful hosts, responsive and easy to get in touch with, and have obviously put a lot of effort into making the Stone School Cottage reflect its historic origins.

May 2022We enjoyed our stay mostly we occupied the upstairs. Bathroom downstairs shower and toilet area a bit small. Stairs getting down we’re negotiable but a little tricky at night. Overall accommodations were as specified in Vrbo website. We were only hoping there would be less traffic outside of the house during the day. Farm tractors nearby at times. Owners were always very available checked on us periodically. They were very friendly and also left us with a nice bottle of wine. Sleeping at night was lovely with the windows open temperatures were perfect. Waking up to the sounds of neighing horses or roosters in the background. We would recommend for a couple getting away for a long weekend as we did.

Sep 2021We chose the stone school cottage as a base to pick up our kids from their different music camps (either in Vermont or nearby town), and then did two days touring, one to MassMoCA, and one to the nearby Mt. Greylock. The location & the house were ideal to our family of 5. The best part was to meet the hosts Rich and Cheryl -- very generous with their time, very responsive to our needs, and very thorough to stock kitchen items. Netflix is a plus to my 12 and 16 year olds. Our dog-loving daughter had a pleasure to meet and walked with their friendly dog Maya while we were chatting with Rick and Cheryl. If there is one thing to improve in the future, it is the stove which I had a hard time to put frying pan evenly, but if you don't cook much or use oven instead, it is not an issue. We certainly will rent again if wanting a air-conditioned place instead of campsite in Berkshires. Again, thank you very much Rich and Cheryl for providing such a unique place and we had a great stay!

Sep 2020We absolutely loved staying in the stone schoolhouse! The apartment unit was spotless, quiet and equipped with everything, making it a perfect getaway spot. Rich and Cheryl are just delightful, friendly people and exceptional hosts. We're looking to visit again when back up this way.

May 2019Very positive experience. Owners were communicative and helpful. Residence was charming and stocked with things travelers need without being cluttered or overdone. Pleasant stay. Would recommend to others who wish for a quiet stay in an historic building of local import proximate to destinations such as Mt. Greylock and Pontoosuc Lake.

Feb 2021Very cozy with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A unique historical setting within an old stone schoolhouse. Perfect base camp for day trips to cross country ski centers, Williamstown, and Mt. Greylock. Rich is a very responsive host!

Oct 2019This was our second stay at the schoolhouse for me, my husband, and our daughter. The house itself is great, there's plenty to keep kids entertained. My daughter loved playing school. The location was perfect for us, too. 35 mins to Bennington, VT and 35 mins to Stockbridge, with beautiful views wherever we traveled. I highly recommend the Naumkeag Pumpkin Show if you're in the area with kids in October, we all really enjoyed it. Rich & Cheryl were very responsive and easy to keep in touch with.

Nov 2021The Stone School Cottage was an incredible find - beautiful, comfortable, well-appointed, super clean, and the softest bath towels I’ve ever encountered. Located on the road to Mt. Greylock, this gem was close enough to town to make grabbing essentials super convenient, but far enough out to provide the peace and quiet we were looking for. The farm down the street, with its collection of rescue animals (donkeys and alpacas and horses!), was an added bonus. Hosts Rich and Cheryl were just a text away. Really loved our weekend here.

Apr 2021The Stone School Cottage is a super-charming 1832 stone schoolhouse with a very high-ceilinged classroom on the first floor and a spacious living area upstairs. The decor is very tasteful and the feel is authentic but with up-to-date amenities, and Rich, the host, was generous and helpful in every way. We had a memorable, wonderful stay and give this the highest possible recommendation!

Mar 2021The Stone School Cottage, complete with "old school" charm, is a perfect place to start and return to from your Berkshire adventures. It is a clean, quiet and comfortable place to relax after a full day. Just thirty minutes in any direction brings you to many restaurants, state parks, cultural exhibits and many opportunities to bike, hike, ski, snowshoe or walk. We highly recommend staying here.

Jul 2019The school house is an amazing time machine. The entire first floor is the classroom and it is fantastic. It’s filled with memorabilia, memory books and most impressive, Cheryl’s nature photography. The second floor is a large and comfortable loft style living space.

Sep 2019The property was a very charming and comfortable school house from the early 1800s on the first floor and a very spacious and comfortable loft on the 2nd floor. Host was really nice and everything was VERY well done. There are a lot of memories captured in the house, it was a great experience.

Nov 2021The other reviewers are spot-on when they say this school-converted-cottage takes you back in time. If you want to feel like you’re staying in small town America and you’ve been spoilt by the comforts of the city, you’ll love this place. It has everything you need for a weekend getaway. Rich communicated really well and made our check-in/check-out process really smooth. He also offered a late check out as there was no one else checking-in after us. We never really had issues during our stay.

Oct 2022The house was very clean, thoughtfully decorated and filled with history. The host was very responsive and made us feel welcome. There were a plenty of toys for my two kids to play with; they were never bored inside the house. The kitchen had everything you needed which my wife and I appreciated. Agreeing with with the prior reviewer that it was a perfect central base for exploring the Berkshire area. Overall, it was a special, unique experience.

Aug 2019Staying at the Stone School House was a unique experience. Coming from Northern California where any building that survived the 1906 earthquake is rare, staying in a property built in 1832 was just what we wanted. Rich and Cheryl have honored that history by retaining the School House feel on the bottom level - little antique desks, blackboards, histories of former students, etc. Fantastic. We cooked in the compact kitchen comfortably, and our hosts were very responsive to our needs. The property is just below the entrance to Mt. Greylock park, a wonderful place to visit and hike. We loved the quiet of the surroundings and getting to the incredible culture in the area is a short drive away. We attended the Clark and MoCA museums, toured Williams College, went to Tanglewood, and met friends in West Stockbridge easily. The trip was everything and even more than we hoped for!
