Oct 2021What Tom if offering here is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The remote setting and scenery are amazing. But what really took our breath away was the drive over Hurrah Pass. Because Tom has lived here so long and drives over the pass regularly, he downplays how rugged the journey actually is. I made the trip with my family in a rented SUV at dusk, and it was daunting. I wish the listing had encouraged me to rent a jeep in Moab and have fun with this road rather than worrying about damages to my rental car for much of the way. I will say that the journey back over the pass when we left felt easier since it was done in the morning and we'd grown somewhat used to the jagged path and terrifying drop-offs. Tom is preserving something incredibly special and is going to great lengths to bring supplies to this remote area. So, hats off to him even if the home we rented had floors that needed a good scrub and bed coverings that were not fresh (we washed them after arriving). The landscape and the feeling of this place are something we will never forget. Tom and his crew clearly work hard to make all this possible, and the pros far outweigh the cons.

Apr 2019We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Main House and highly recommend this home. Here's some takeaways:
- The area surrounding the Main House is fantastic and there are plenty of hikes and other things to do to fill a week. The location is special!
- Tom is great. Extremely knowledgeable and a concerned and helpful host.
- Getting to the home will be easy for anyone with a high clearance truck or SUV (with off-road driving experience). For others with some sort of SUV, a few sections of the road might be a little over-whelming. Take your time and find the best path through the rocks and ruts. Try to relax and enjoy the drive.
- We were glad we brought enough food for the entire week and did not have to drive back to Moab for supplies. I'd recommend sticking around the area and making the most of it rather than spending time going back and forth over the pass. (I imagine that for some folks, with the right vehicle, driving back and forth over the pass could be part of the fun.)
- In this price range, you may expect a fancy house with fancy appliances, a gift basket waiting for you upon your arrival, etc. If you rent the Main House thinking that you are going to a fancy house, you will probably be disappointed. The house is a bit rustic, quirky, reasonably clean, and if you are not looking for fancy, you will probably love it. There are definitely some areas for improvement/fixes, but the surrounding area is so fantastic, that it's best to look past these minor shortcomings.
- Be prepared to have neighbors close by. There are two hogans - one is about 50 yards from the main house and the other might be about 75 yards away. This seems perfect if you need additional places for friends or family members to stay. If you would prefer that any neighbors are further away, then the Condo may be the better option.
Overall, fantastic experience and very happy to have had the opportunity to stay in the Main House.

Nov 2018We stayed two nights at the main house and loved the location and the views. The house is a bit rustic and not super upscale for those looking for modern luxuries. But the point of staying at this location is the crazy drive and the incredible solitude and views. We had to make two round trips to Moab in two days, and one trip back was a night in the rain. We have a Forester so all was well but it was tense at night on the rain drenched roads. Tom was great and we took advantage of the kayaks and ATV on the property. The turtle is too cool for words, lol! We wish we could have stayed for a week.

May 2021This property is rustic and not fancy at all but it has so much going for it, it’s worth forgoing the fluffy white towels and pristine housekeeping. It takes an hour of bumping along a very rough and dusty to get there and you must have a vehicle with good clearance and ideally 4wheel drive, otherwise you won’t make it. The owner is very helpful and good natured guy with a few good stories to tell. Kayaks and off road vehicles are on the property as well as many hikes and the best views you could ask for. Star gazing with a drink is a perfect way to end a day here

Aug 2021This is one of the coolest places you could ever stay! We had such a great time and have never stayed anywhere like this. We had all the plans of what we were going to do in Moab, but we just decided to stay on the property and explore. Tom and Kobe were fantastic. Our nine your old daughter had a terrific time. Our dogs lost their minds. I don't think we can go to Moab again without staying there. Don't pass this up! Hope for a cool storm. Our two wheel drive Kia made it fine.

Jun 2018So this place is one of a kind. More to do than we had time for. If you plan a trip here, the longer the stay the better, We only gad 2 days but loved it. On to the details.
The road in to camp was fabulous, essentially you are driving the Hurrah Pass, Moab, and as you summit and start to head down you can see base camp! It took about an hour from downtown Moab. The road isnt really for regular cars , real 4wd is best, but a pickup or anything with pretty high clearance would make it. There ARE other trails that will test the limits of ANY off road vehicle, but most relatively high vehicles will get to camp. The house we stayed in was beautiful and more than well stocked, Tom actually had more than we could use. The setting is beyond words. Totally private even with guests around the homes and Hondo's are so well placed everyone has privacy if they want it. Kids really liked the look of the Hondo's. There is more than enough hiking right out the door, our best was a hike way up the ridge out back in the evening. We even had a Bighorn visit the pond one night We plan to go back, so much to explore would take decades to see it all!
Thank you Tom,
Wilson Fam

Apr 2022Our family of four (two kids - 8 and 6) stayed here for two nights at the end of our weeklong tour of the "Big Five." We could not have asked for a more incredible experience. The property is unlike anywhere we've ever lodged (in the best way possible) and we stayed busy with an ATV ride to Chicken Corners and the Wind Caves, a dip in the Colorado, and endless stargazing! Colin (and Ranger) were fantastic guides and the giant tortoise was icing on the cake. The drive in is a bit harrowing for novices like us but completely doable. Don't let it deter you from an unforgettable experience. We may never be able top Spring Break 2022!

Oct 2021Our family of four including 2 teens enjoyed our stay at the Last Hurrah house. The 2 dogs had a blast too. Lots of mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking right outside our doorstep with amazing panoramic views. We also brought our own paddleboards. It was so fun to see all the critters (skunks, raccoons, and foxes) at the night feeding and Toms' big tortoise. As everyone mentions the road is no joke. Only attempt it during daylight with good clearance (over 5-6 inches), and if you are comfortable driving this sort of road (my husband is, but I am not). We made the rookie mistake of driving in with a low-hanging rear bike rack which got really beat up. We took it off for the drive out and stuffed the bikes in the car, this was much smoother and less daunting.

Jun 2021One of the most scenic places in the country. We rode motorcycles from NC to here and made the trek of Hoorah Pass. Beautiful scenery everywhere you looked and always something to do or see. We rented a side by side in town and went even deeper into Moab. Our Host was great and even helped us bring one of the broke down bikes back over the pass. Highly recommended.

Nov 2020Once in a Lifetime experience and views. Very unique property and stay. If you're not comfortable off roading this might not be your stay but if you're all about getting away from everyone and being in nature this is the place.

Oct 2020If you are looking for absolute desolation and privacy this is a good choice. The views are similar to the national parks nearby just without the big crowds. Sunrise and sunset are absolutely gorgeous here. The house is comfortable and boasts views of a small pond in front, and the Colorado river. The home is fully equipped with everything you may need including a washer, dryer, dishwasher, full kitchen, grill, wifi and satellite tv.

Oct 2021Getting there is half the fun. Don't be intimidated by the drive, BUT, have a high wheel base makes it easier. Thanks to Tom for always being a great host. Ted

Jun 2021Everything was as stated in the listing. The views around the cabin were more impressive than I expected and the cabin had more amenities than I expected with it being "off-grid". Tom was great. If only staying two or three days then I recommend taking everything you need with you so you don't have to drive over the pass back to town. This place was a great experience!!!!
