Nov 2022Wonderful host. Liked the layout of the house for a large family. Clean and stocked well. Didn't have time to enjoy any of the outside features though.

Sep 2022We stayed here for a sibling reunion. Tom and Carol were gracious , accomodating , and so knowledgeable of history.. Both houses were full of history as well as practical for full use. We grilled out and the kitchens were well stocked for basic needs. We would highly recommend and would definitely stay again! Thanks for great accomodations , perfect for our needs!

Nov 2021We rented both houses available for our Thanksgiving. Both houses were nice, comfortable, and full of historical civil war artifacts and replicas. We thought the two houses would be in close proximity, but were in short driving range. Overall, exactly what we wanted to bring our large grown family together.

Jul 2022We loved this place..full of history. Our family had a great time swimming in the pool, walking in the gardens and having fun picnics. We especially enjoyed sunsets on the upper deck. We will be back.

Aug 2021We loved our stay on this property! It is rich in history, beautiful and well maintained. Tom Newhart the owner is an excellent and enthusiastic host. The property is a short car ride away from Gettysburg which is super convenient yet it is far enough away to be private. The saltwater pool is a wonderful treat and trust me you wouldn’t hardly know it’s saltwater if that’s a concern for you. Some food for thought is that due to different preferences in beds , some in our large party who had medical conditions found the beds less than comfortable but they were however adequate. Tom was quick to respond to handle any hiccups or questions that we reported to him. Overall a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend to others.

Aug 2022We had a wonderful stay at Iron Horse Inn. There were three generations of us. We were searching for a unique and safe place for our annual family gathering and this place surpassed our expectations. The host, Tom, was easy to communicate with and answered all of our questions quickly both before and during our stay. Built in 1863, the stone house is not only delightful, and filled with Civil War treasures but is equipped with central air, multiple TVs, internet, and an en suite bathroom for each bedroom. Tom himself offers a wealth of knowledge about the history of Gettysburg and the area. The property includes a large salt water pool and acres to explore with a surprise to discover around every corner.

Jun 2022Tom has a very interesting property. He is very knowledgeable about the history of the property and the area. The property is great for adults but might not be the best fit for young kids due to the artifacts displayed.

Oct 2021Tom and Carol Newhart's farm is beautiful, inspiring and wonderful for families like ours. The accommodations are so lovely, clean and lots to do. The historic decor lends itself to all that Gettysburg embodies. We hiked, had family dinners, sat out on the spacious deck at night, played family games and slept so soundly each night...such a joy! .

Aug 2021The property was beautiful, setting in rows of corn and soy beans. The pool was wonderful since it was in the 90's.I don't recommend if you have small kids. To much antiquesand wax figures that they want to touch.

Aug 2021The property is amazing. We booked both venues. The farm house and barn were not close together which I thought might be a challenge-it was not. The bedrooms were all stellar. The kitchens a joy to work in and the pool was amazing. Our only concern was that the horse in the farmhouse dining room should be in the barn. If you stay, you’ll understand!

Aug 2021My family & I (11 people in total) stayed in both the barn & stone house. Both properties are filled with many historical pieces that our group enjoyed. The property is beautiful & is in a great location to get around Gettysburg. The Newharts were wonderful hosts who made us feel right at home! I would absolutely recommend this location to anyone asking!

Jun 2022My family and I had a wonderful time! The property was amazing. We rented both buildings. The grounds were beautiful....garden/pond, and the pool was a highlight for my kids. We loved all the historical touches in the stone house and barn. There was plenty of kitchen table space in the stone house ( 24 chairs to be exact) and plenty of space in the home for the most part for my family. Sitting in the living room areas to watch the Gettysburg movie was a little tight and not too comfortable ( wooden bench and dated couches). Tom was so kind and and so knowledgeable about the area and its history. It was an amazing and unique place to stay and we will always remember this vacation! Thank you Tom!

Aug 2022My family and I had a great time staying at this property. The stone house is well kept, has a large common area with lots of seating, a big kitchen, and plenty of room in each of the 3 bedrooms for the kids to sleep on the floor. We spent a lot of time sitting in the backyard reading, while our kids road bikes in the driveway and played in the large grass yard. The beautiful swimming pool is a 3 min. drive from the stone house and nearby are shopping outlets and the Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center. I would recommend staying here anytime of year.

Aug 2022Hosts Tom an Carol were most accommodating and congenial. The house was by far the most interesting and superbly maintained of any place we have ever stayed! It was like living in a different place and time but we had all the amenities of present day. It appealed to not just "nana" and "pop" but also to our 2 grand children who thoroughly enjoyed the pool and grounds. This was definitely a destination family experience we will long remember.

Jun 2022Great location, unique facilities, and wonderful attentive hosts! Salt water pool, sportsman's man-cave, beautiful gardens, and authentic civil war decor in both stone house and barn house made our McDaniel College graduation weekend an experience to remember. *Do note that there is a little more than a quarter-mile walk/drive between the stone house and the barn/pool area.

Jan 2022Both houses were very nice. The kitchen at the stone house was pretty well equipped. lots of seating for meals, but could use some additional hang out seating. Everything worked and Tom, the host, was nearby if anything was needed. In the barn the living room was spacious. The game room would appeal to those who love sports memorabilia and trains!

Sep 2022A group of 10 of us stayed in the two facilities, the Stone House and the Barn. The furnishings and settings were perfect for us. They offered space for group dinners and gatherings, both inside and out. Tom Newhart, the property owner and our host, was very attentive and welcoming. The facilities are well maintained and decorated with Civil War and sports memorabilia, making it a very interesting place to stay. Walking between the 2 facilities takes about 8-10 minutes but there is amble parking at both locations if you choose to drive. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Sep 2021A great place to stay while visiting Gettysburg. The house was of the civil war era including life size figures representing confederate and union soldiers. It had everything we needed to be comfortable and cook for all eleven of us!
