Gorgeous and elegant hotel with great hospitalityNov 2019
We were impressed from the start. They sat us down at a beautiful waiting area and offered hot tea and snacks while they checked us in. We stayed in the Japanese and Western-styled rooms at the annex; comfortable and not the most spacious but large enough. Our breakfast was great too. Food was laid out buffet style and topped up as soon as it ran low. Coffee was decent, and we enjoyed the fresh fruit juices as well. Bathing facilities were clean and well-appointed. Hotel might be a little far from the station, but the surroundings have their own draws too. It's opposite an interesting book cafe, a whiskey bar, and just a short walk (less than 10 minutes) from Matsumoto Castle. There's also a bakery at the lane behind the hotel and their bakes smelled heavenly.
Very comfortable accommodation in good location.Jul 2019
We really enjoyed staying in a traditional japanese style room. The beds were packed away during the day making more room for relaxing.
The Japanese breakfast was delicious.
The public baths were fabulous. So relaxing!
The deep private bath in the room was wonderful.
Um, I cannot think of anything we didn't like.
Maybe a shower curtain in our private bathroom might have been good. It wasn't necessary though.
Ok for 1 nightJan 2023
Very close to Matsumoto castle - breakfast had international options
The room walls were really dirty and there was a hole behind the lamp in the wall. The bathroom was clean but quite old. Overall the whole room needs more maintenance and repainting. When we went down for breakfast we were told we had to wait and come back later because they run out of tables.
very caring staff, great location, and met all my needs to enjoy the area. Nov 2021
very caring staff, great location, and met all my needs.
ExceptionalDec 2022
The staff were so helpful and the breakfast just fabulous
very pleasantOct 2022
the staff are always very kind and helpful and the location is super.
the rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint and general freshening up
Beautiful hotel with amazing serviceApr 2022
The room, view, bed, breakfast, and the service of the hotel staff are all excellent! A few minutes walk to the Matsumoto castle and a 5-10 min walk to downtown (near Matsumoto station). Very convenient.
Nothing
Fantastic!Dec 2019
The room is clean and spacious for a family of 4. Staffs are friendly and ready to welcome you upon arrival. The hotel is not near to the station but fret not, you can always catch the feeder bus. A short walking distance to Matsumoto Castle and there is plenty of delicious eatery nearby.
Absolutely nothing.
Very goodJan 2023
the onsen was wonderful
Nice, but a little overpriced.Oct 2022
The location is great, close to the Matsumoto Castle and main restaurant/shopping streets.
The lobby is modern and elegant, but cosy.
The breakfast was rich and delicious.
The front desk staff was friendly and accommodating.
Because of the older building, the bathroom/toilet of the room are also old and feel a little outdated.
The seating for breakfast could have been better - there were many empty seats, but we were seen to a regular table without given the option to be seated in a corner, with sofa seating, unlike other guests.
One of the best places I have ever stayed in! Mar 2021
The location is amazing, very close to the main attractions such as castle and shopping street etc. Building looks more of a western classic architecture. The breakfast was traditional Japanese style and portion was very satisfying.
The parking is charged (880 yen per night).
A pleasant surpriseNov 2018
➕ The hotel was a wonderful surprise. The lobby area, the building, and the room of my stay all were Meiji-era in style, and it seems that the hotel dates back to Meiji (1880s). ➕ The location of the hotel is very good, 15-ish minute walk from the station, and right near the castle. The old building has a terrace so it is possible to see the castle from the top of the building peeking in between newer concrete structures. ➕ The staff was very nice.
➕ The room of my stay was in older building and it was great, good in size, decorated nicely, with plenty of lights, and with the window that can be opened for ventilation (with Matsumoto castle peeking in the corner), there was even a bluetooth speaker and a soft cushion for watches or jewellery. There was a "handy" phone that has free calls, but only to Australia, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Netherlands and the US. The bath in the bathroom was big enough to be used as an actual a bath. The price was definitely reasonable.
➕ Both buildings have elevators. ➕ The public bath was very good, large in size, and at the time of my stay it was mostly empty. The public bath is open throughout the night. There is a set of vending machines on the fourth floor of the main building. It's said there is a coin laundry somewhere, but it seems to be opened only from 9am to 8pm. ➕ There are multiple options for breakfast, as there are multiple restaurants on the premise. The Japanese buffet breakfast was very good. There was a choice of local juices. All the dishes were present even at the end of the breakfast (9:30).
➖ The only nitpicking comment would be inconsistent wireless connection, probably due to an evening "rush hour".
highly recommened!Jan 2022
the hotel itself is very nice and beautiful, excellent location, warm
all was nice
ExceptionalJun 2021
The hotel is very comfortable and it has a very good environment.
The location is also perfect, everything is close enough to walk
Good decent stayDec 2022
the hotel is located near the Matsumoto castle and many eateries. the building looks new and the reception area also looks very nice. but the Japanese style standard room that we stayed looked aged with peeling wallpaper.
it was nice to have an onsen within the hotel. However, the water in the onsen was cooler in temperature than our first try, which we are not sure why. Just be careful at the women’s shower area of the onsen as the floor feels soapy and slippery.
parking is nearby the hotel as it is not possible to park just outside the hotel itself. the hotel has a little cafe and shop too.
onsen not hot enough and the floor of the shower area at the women onsen feels slippery and soapy.
also don’t like the fact that the washing machine and dryer were located at the escape staircase on 3rd floor (which is outside the building) and can only used till 8pm.
SuperbNov 2021
The hotel exterior looks very nice like mixture of modern and tradition.
The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the hot spring was okay.
PJs wasn't comfortable so it might be better to bring your own.
PleasantFeb 2022
the facilities are getting old, need to be renovated somehow
Delicious mealMar 2022
The evening meal in the hotel's restaurant was superb. Book in advance - it's worth the extra expense.
The staff, polite and speaking English to ensure I was comfortable.
The room looked tired - it needs updating.
Nice mealOct 2021
The breakfast and dinner was very good.
The location is not bad. It is close to the castle but takes 15 minutes from the JR station or bus terminal by walk.
The room was smaller than I thought. And it was clean but old.
Great experience Sep 2021
The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was more than what we expected for the price of the stay
The bathroom was a little old and the memories could have had more available for the ladies.
ExceptionalJan 2022
The atmosphere was fantastic, exuding elegance and sophistication while maintaining an air of tradition. It struck me as Meiji era inspired hotel. The breakfast was particularly good. The bathing facilities were famtastic. I would definitely stay here again!
The gentleman at reception, while being courteous and professional, failed to make eye contact with myself (the foreigner of our family) and instead elected to speak directly to the person he assumed spoke all of the Japanese. It was especially vexing as the reservation was in my name.
SuperbMar 2023
Staff were great. Good location and extremely clean facilities. I recommend using the free bicycle service the hotel provides, I had loads of fun riding around Matsumoto.
Lovely calm and well run hotel.Mar 2021
Really enjoyed the comfort room with a terrace with chairs, although the view is a let down. Room was so comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful. Coffee machine in the room was a nice touch.
Shuttle bus to and from the train station is good to use. Hotel is a great location for the castle and shopping streets.
I didn’t eat any meals at the hotel except for a nice lunch.
Only the terrace view and some noise noticeable at night from the air conditioning.
would go back again without hesitation.Mar 2023
proximity to everything, free bicycles, breakfast, staff so helpful!
DisappointingMay 2021
Room was very old and worn out. As small as a business hotel but 3x the cost.
Breakfast buffet was a complete nightmare. Huge lines. Only one rice station. Most dishes ran out fast and were not replenished until the end of the dining period. Very poorly organized. Huge disappointment considering the price.
PassableDec 2022
Old, need to pay for car park, limited facilities, limited breakfast spread.
