Our lodge was private and decorated beautifully.
Staff were lovely.
As for cons -
- Our special request before arrival was to 'braai' as often as possible being typical South Africans and wanting to enjoy the Karoo evenings.
Not once was this done for us or even attempted. Finally on last night we dragged chairs into the boma area and lit our own fire pit ...
Modus Operandi for dinner seemed to be the same routine of a quickly served dinner at dining table with no attempt to use any outdoor facilities or do anything different.
- For our entire stay , there was no stopping ( or suggestion) for the traditional drinks/snacks on afternoon / evening game drives even though a coolbox was routinely packed ? There seemed to be an excuse every evening.
- It was a family members birthday and nothing special in anyway was suggested or provided .... maybe breakfast / coffee etc in bush would have been very appreciated.

Mar 2023We stayed in Pod 1. We highly recommend the Pods for a truly unique experience. the lodge is beautiful but spending the night on the mountain is unmatchable. It’s a 40 minute drive from the Lodge to the Pods but it’s spectacular.

It was a great experience to wake up in the middle of nowhere and see Rhinos a few meters away from the pod, as well as the incredile stars and clear sky at night. We also loved the staff who were super welcoming and especially our guide Abraham was super!

Jan 2022We opted for the Pods, absolute experience that I highly recommend as one experiences wildlife on your doorstep. Comfortable rooms and fully equipped with everything one would need. Attention is given to every guest from the warm welcome, knowledgeable guides and the accommodation. Tish and CJ were our guides, the most amazing people ever! We have learnt so much from their passion.
Only I wish I stayed longer!

Oct 2022We did not have to to anything. Top-class food meals three times a day with loads to drink at no extra cost. Two 3-hour game drives will keep you busy and entertained. Secluded.

The Breakfast and Dinner was amazing.
The game drives were good and Hein was a great Ranger with lots of knowledge.
The Manor and Cottage was very clean and the staff take pride on the work they do.
The bed linen in the Cottage we stayed in was old and worn,even had a hole on the fitted sheet, also the towels had seen better days as all frayed around edges.
The GM we saw only for a 1 minute brief upon arrival then on departure when we had to settle our Bill. Didn't observe much interaction with Guests..

Nov 2022The lodge is located in a beautiful valley with views all around. It has been beautifully restored and the rooms are tastefully decorated. We were upgraded to Peppertree Lodge which is secluded from the main Manor house, it has a hot tub to soak in. All the staff went out of their way to make our stay perfect.

Nov 2022The location was remote as one can get and the privacy 100% guaranteed. The POD ( no 2 ) was extremely well located for spectacular view of the Karoo Planes as well as the majestic Sneeuberge. The grass planes at the the top if the valley where the POD was located ensured for some amazing game viewing in the morning and afternoons. The game ranger and field guide Ryan Ormerod was immensely well knowledgeable and when he talked we would listed as there was ALWAYS something unique or interesting coming your way. The staff and the Manor House and main Restaurant was equally friendly professional and the food was excellent.
The water for shower tend to not get to the normal temperature one would expect ( could be due to the power/gas supply due to remoteness of the location)
The skylight was difficult to open ( was not explained when we had a tour of the POD )
The spirits drinks that was available af the Manor House as part of full board was not stocked af the POD and only beers and wines ( not a huge issue as we took our own with aswel )

Jan 2022The location of the reserve was fantastic and the building was renovated in line with its origin. The food was great and the kitchen staff was really friendly. (And all the staff have been vaccinated) They went to a lot of effort for dinner on new Year's eve.
We did not get the room we booked. We were disappointed in the room on arrival, but did not raise the issue as the lodge was fully booked and thought the room was misrepresented on booking.com. When we left on the last day however, we saw another room that matched the pictures on the site, so I think we were given the wrong room. Looking at the website afterwards, I could not get one photo of the substandard room we were put in. To be specific, the room we booked were a Suite with Mountain View (including a seating area and private entrance). Our room was the smallest room possible, with no seats (other than the stool thingy at the vanity), and our door opened practically onto the communal kitchen.
Information in the booklet in the room was out of date/incorrect and some options listed on the site wasn't offered (such as stargazing or the option of a bush walk in lieu of a game drive)

The WiFi was the only problem we had during our stay. It was knocked out by Load shedding, however was in the process of being repaired
