Excellent service, Very beautiful place with best food. Very pleased with the hospitality shown by Manager Bala and his team. Would definitely recommend to our friends and family.

The garden was wonderful - just gorgeous in fact and the view of the hills was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave me a heater and it was really helpful. The restaurant was great, they would ask you what you wanted for dinner so that they could prep it and be ready for you when you wanted to eat - which was very nice of them - I didn't take advantage of this kindness and so had to wait quite a while for dinner to be ready for me after I got to the restaurant. So do take them up on the offer when they ask. The breakfast was wonderful, although they could extend it upto 10:30 rather than just 10am if you asked me.
Definitely the staff deserve a special mention for their service and helpfulness!
It was early March, and the nights were rather cold but they would not light the lovely fireplaces in the house or in the rooms. I can't see why, because it would cost them practically nothing to do it, firewood in Ooty must be practically free! It would have definitely added to the ambience of the place if they lit the fire in the living room or the restaurant at least, which were really cold especially since they seem to be in the habit of keeping all the doors open. I would definitely have fallen in love with this place if they had not bee (in my opinion at least) so stingy with lighting the fires.
The rooms were a little shabby, with yellow sheets, even though they did seem to be fresh. The furniture and curtains also seemed not to be rather old and not to have been polished in a long time and were like your grandma's old furniture that you might inherit but want to really polish and varnish before you put them in your house. The curtains were definitely rather dirty. Definitely this place could easily charge 1.5 times more if only they gave the building and the furniture some TLC.
They also were kind of stingy with changing me to a room with a veiw of the garden even though I could see that there were several rooms empty.

The stay was good but had a small issue late in the evening the lock was stuck and not able to go into our checked in room .The staff alloted us a different room after struggling to open the lock few hrs later.The food and the rooms were good and clean

The scenic view and the outdoor garden area was beautiful & spread out . the lawn is the highlight of the place and the staff is very helpful
Few additional things in the bathrooms could be better . the tube light was not working .

The view, the Staff, Mr Krishna was checking in often to ensure we were comfortable. The guys behind Sherlock also own other places in Ooty, Earl’s and Le Cafe and food everywhere is excellent. The cottages were cute , with a well ventilated fireplace , and very comfortable for a couple.
The approach road is a bit narrow and last stretch is a bit bad. We had a cab, so it was ok. Even the Cab Driver said he would not like to take that one in rains.
We had to do two upgrades. Online you don’t come to know that the Mountain view room is outside the property, with nothing around it, so definitely the Garden view are better.
All beds are queen beds, and I am 6’4” so had to take extra bed even with a 3yr toddler.

The rooms are placed so adjacent that one can hear the next room talking or watching TV,
The security staff switches off the gyser without giving notice while it's a storage gyser
They should place more signages on the way especially where it takes a lane change Or where it leaves off the main roads
They should provide chairs and table to sit in the balcony so one can enjoy the available scenic views around

The hotel is in a great location, Well maintained and limited occupancy. The rooms are 15 years old, property is pretty rustic. Rooms are big and there is also a private fire place.. Nights can get very cold and additional heaters are necessary.
The breakfast spread was decent. Lunch and Dinner are alacarte. Food is good, pretty spicy too.. mention upfront if u need it mild.
Connecting road to the property is very narrow.

If you are looking for an old British Era heritage property this one is for you. We stayed in the garden rooms (would recommend these rooms over any other category) and liked the view and the size of the rooms.
The service from the staff is top notch, they will go out of their way to cater to your requirements. Special thanks to Vinod, Praveen and Bala the manager for taking care of us.
We stayed at Sherlock for 3 nights and our first night was spent in the Black Peter room which I wouldnt recommend in comparison to the other garden rooms. We were shifted to the Dancing Men room for the last 2 nights of our stay and this one was definitely larger had running hot water in comparison to the Black Peter room which was smaller and had a geyser which wouldn't be very effective given the cold temperatures of Ooty.
Approach road - Many folks have already written about this in various forums. The last 500 meters of the approach roads needs a lot of work. There is no Tar or concrete layer in this section and the surface is dirt road with a steep incline
May be a bit expensive - we went on the long weekend independence day break and probably why we paid a higher tariff.

The main part of the property is nicely maintained. The food service is excellent and Mr Vinod and team take extra efforts to ensure food is served on time and is hot. They take even minute requests and ensure that it is delivered.
The property shown in the pictures is the main property and has garden facing rooms which are great. The property has another section next to it which has hill facing rooms. It has four rooms two on the top and two at the bottom. The pictures shown during booking is of the top two rooms and the bottom room which we got was a damp one with damp walls and the hill view also blocked as it was in the basement. We even heard a rat at night rummaging through the dust bin.
We complained about this to Mr. Bala, the manager and he gave us the upper rooms the next day. But one day was ruined because of this miscommunication in pictures.
I even contacted Booking.com customer care but they also haven't addressed my query till now.

One of our family members fell sick before the booking. The reservations team and their manager are completely money minded and don't care for anyone's emergency. Once you have paid the money they will not listen to you at all. First the reservations team kept saying they can't do anything and have to wait for the manager to come to office. It took 2 days just to speak to their manager. The call with the manager was a disaster. We told him that we had requested for a refund through booking.com. I don't know why but he kept criticizing booking.com's unfair business practices and complications and that why we booked through the site, and kept asking us to ask for the refund from booking.com, when clearly, booking.com was used only for the booking without payment, post which we had paid directly to the little earth group through a payment link they had sent through booking.com messages! Eventually their manager even said he would not have given us a refund even if we did a direct booking and would have, at best, allowed us to use it for a future booking as it is "peak season". When I asked him if his hotel is sold out, he said no, it has 2 free rooms!
They have absolutely no heart and no consideration for anyone's emergency. Just a greedy business out to loot people of their hard earned money. Their services have degraded over the years and yet they overcharge for their properties. I hope they shut down.

It is such a beautiful heritage property and the hospitality was on the point. They made the stay very comfortable, accommodated all our requests and all the staffs were so pleasant ! The food was amazing as well! Another beautiful thing is that the location is quaint enough while being close to the charring cross. Definitely going to be staying here henceforth.Such an underrated gem🙂
