Mar 2021Words can't describe how wonder this property is. Everything was prepared and ready for our stay. This cottage is the perfect place to truly experience the beauty of Maui. Barb and Hank took care of everything and offered the perfect suggestions for dinner and entertainment ideas. We can't wait to visit again.

Apr 2019Whenever we have been lucky enough to visit Maui, we have stayed in this magical cottage. The location is so unique and peaceful, that it's hard for us to leave the lanai! But when we do, Haiku is a great place to access all parts of the island. Whether you want to hike into Haleakala, go to one of the beaches, visit Paia or Makawao, or eat great sushi in the village, it's just a lovely part of the island to be on. The cottage itself is perfect and Barbara and Hank are great hosts! We really appreciate their attention to detail...from comfy bed and lovely furniture, everything you could need in small kitchen, to beautiful plantings around cottage that give you total privacy. I will dream about that bathtub on the lanai until I am lucky enough to return for another visit! Mahalo!

Nov 2021We were welcomed to a spotless cottage with fresh, local fruit and flowers. The view of the countryside and bay were spectacular, as well as the view of the night sky. Perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks Barbara and Hank for having us!

Dec 2019We stayed at Barbara’s cottage for multiple nights during our honeymoon on Maui and it was a perfect experience. Serene, private, and well appointed, with picturesque views from the lanai. We loved falling asleep to the nature sounds. During the day, Haiku was an ideal “home base” for exploring Haleakala National Park, Paia, and the Road to Hana. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Mahalo!

Feb 2020We loved our stay at the cottage. The whole property is beautiful, the house is well-kept with lots of extra touches that made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door (flowers, fruit, special soaps). Barbara came over to greet us & show us around, and shared fresh fruit picked from the trees on the property. Hank also introduced himself & let us know that if we needed help with anything we could just ask. The cottage had everything we could ask for. The interior is beautifully decorated & very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed & we cooked almost all of our meals here. The wrap-around lanai was our favourite spot, the views of the West Maui mountains & the ocean were spectacular, the breezes were fresh & lovely, and always the sound of the waterfall & the birds all around. Did I mention that we loved this place? The outdoor shower is perfect & private, also the outdoor bath for two. So romantic. Very easy to get from the cottage to other parts of the island (you’ll need a car). Excellent internet connection so we could easily take care of work that needed attention while we were away from home. We would stay here again in a heartbeat & are missing it already. We would recommend this property without reservation and hope to return here in the future. Thanks Barbara & Hank for an unforgettable vacation!

Hank and Barbara were amazing hosts…very responsive during booking process, always prompt to respond to questions that arose leading up to our stay, and lovely to briefly meet upon arrival!
This was a honeymoon trip and we could not have imagined a nicer atmosphere. Sweeping views from the wrap around lanai made for perfect backdrop of many a dinner outdoors. Constant breeze flowed through cottage making sleeping lovely. There was a basket of goodies including fruit right off the trees on property. The outdoor shower (which we thought would be a nicely wed use once or twice was the only shower we used…nothing beats washing away the sand with the ocean backdrop and warm breeze). All we can say is the pictures don’t do justice to the amazing cottage.
This was my third time in Maui but first time staying in upcountry (previous visits had been in resort area in west maui). This was a wonderful location that felt more authentic and private. We enjoyed all the little towns in that area. It was a great middle point to get to crater or beaches or many other sights. If you are looking for a little less hustle and bustle this is great location.
Hopefully the next guests enjoy ad much as we did!!

The location is convenient to both Paia and Haiku and is within a 15-minute drive to anything you may need, from restaurants, groceries and shops, to incredible beaches and the beginning of the Road to Hana. Aug 2021We feel so lucky to have stayed in this gorgeous rental. We were blown away by how beautiful the grounds were -- they were nicer than our city's botanical garden! -- and the beautiful views. We loved how peaceful, quiet and private this property was, and spent the majority of our time when we weren't out exploring the island enjoing the lanai, and the fantastic outdoor bathtub and shower. When rain canceled our plans one day, we were more than happy to spend that time relaxing here. We loved staying in Haiku and close to Paia, which both have a chill village vibe with plenty of dining options. Barbara and Hank were excellent hosts and have made sure the rental has everything you could possibly want or need. We were very sad to leave, and hope we will be able to stay here again one day!

Jan 2019We enjoyed every minute. The cottage is airy, well-designed and beautifully decorated. There’s a huge tub on the Lanai with bubble bath! Outdoor showers as well - great for cleaning snorkeling gear. We had a wonderful time and hope to stay at the cottage again.

Jul 2019We couldn't have asked for a better, more centrally located, dream-like cottage perfect for two. The only thing I would have changed about our trip would be to double the length of time we spent there. Barbara and Hank were gracious and accommodating hosts and their property is exactly as beautiful as advertised. If we get the chance to go back to Maui, we'll be staying here again.

The location itself is also pretty cool - not your typical "touristy" spot, which my wife and I really valued. It has a really intimate and intentional feel which was awesome :) And the outdoor showers were easily the most refreshing showers I've ever had in my life (not to mention with the best view of all time). Seriously.The cottage also has local places close by (within a few minute drive) to eat/pick up groceries which was a major plus. Nuka (sushi place in Haiku) is a must, we literally went 3 times during our stay...Barbara and Hank were very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions we had. They were incredibly helpful and we felt well cared for by them.

Nov 2019Very secluded and private location in Upcountry away from the hustle and bustle. Relaxing and peaceful cottage, very well kept. Haiku, a small town that's off the beaten path and has about everything, is a three minute drive from the cottage. Beautiful panoramic view, at night the stars and moon are amazing. Barbara and Hank were great hosts. Great experience, we highly recommend this cottage.

Aug 2020This was the most amazing vacation rental my husband and I have ever stayed in! Off the beaten path a bit so that you can really feel alone and enjoy the breathtaking views and scenery, but close enough to town that everything you need is only a short drive away. Close enough to Haleakala and Hana to make those trips less of a drive. Barbara and Hank were great with communication and check in and made sure to let us know they were only a call away if we needed them, but didn't bother us at all during our relaxing stay. If you are looking to get out of the city, really relax, and feel more connected to nature on your trip to Maui, this is the place for you!

Jan 2021This was our second and longest stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage and we were very impressed with the kitchen and bath updates. The Klines are terrific hosts and the setting is almost like the Garden of Eden. We plan to return!

Aug 2019This stay was nothing short of perfect. Barbara welcomed us and then left us to ourselves for the remainder of our trip. We enjoyed the spotless, airy bungalow endlessly, especially the views (jungle, farmland, and coastline), location (5 mins from great market with anything we needed), and probably most of all, the amenities (outdoor 2-person showers and tub, laundry, fridge, fans, tv, etc!) I couldn't recommend this place enough. We plan on spending plenty o' anniversaries to come at this perfect rental. Thanks Barbara!!
