Sep 2020Wonderful stay in paradise in a unique overwater property. It was great to stay on the main island and truly experience Bora Bora. You can see why Marlon Brando feel in love with this spot and built a bungalow here. Spacious and in true Polynesian style. Also on the end and quite private. Spent hours on the large poach and deck watching all the fish and spectacular sunsets. Appreciated all the support from Richard and Nir regarding logistics. Left a few days ago and missing it already.

Oct 2022We travelled with our 16-month old (who doesn't yet walk) and it was heavenly staying at the bungalow. So relaxing and beautiful. The perfect getaway for our little family.
The car rental through Nir was seamless and essential. We loved driving into town on pretty much a daily basis to go to the supermarket for fresh baguettes, or to grab lunch/dinner from a food truck. Everything is easily accessible from the bungalow. Note: for the restaurants, it's better to call for reservations. We were able to get seated, but they were alarmed at our lack of reservations.
The bungalow is as described, maybe a bit rustic for some (but then you should be staying at a resort), but for us it was perfect. We were able to do laundry, relax and eat meals on the overwater deck, enjoy the sunsets, come and go as we wished. We fed the fish leftover baguettes each morning; cooled off in the water in the afternoons. Idyllic. Everything you need, including a smart tv for streaming if you need a little mindless entertainment in the middle of paradise (we did).
We'll be back! And we're telling all of our friends about the bungalow!

Nov 2022We stayed here five days - and loved each and every one... even though it rained most of the time! The view is just great and you can snorkel or kayak right from your unit.

Apr 2019We rented Bungalow 1 for 4 nights, but ended up checking out 1 day earlier, and went to Four Seasons hotel instead.
Here are some pros and cons of staying here
Pros:
- Nir (the property manager) is awesome. He is knowledgeable about the island, he helped us book a couple of tours, both turn out great. Nir also has a Jungle like rental place, you should definitely check it out.
- On the water. Besides hotels, there are only 5 over the water private Bungalow on the main island. Property has a float and kayak, and the water is not deep, so you can easily enjoy water activities.
- A/C. Even though it is not super hot there, we find it is still very convenient to have A/C.
Cons:
- Amenity is very primitive. We came with the dream to cook some home meals, but it is not practical, because of lack of basic cooking necessities. For example, no cooking oil provided. We do not feel like stocking up the whole kitchen (e.g., buy a whole jar of cooking oil) just for a few days. We ended up just boiling some eggs. Also, no dishwasher, and like a previous review said, the cutting knife is not sharp at all, so it is not usable.
- Other basic necessities are lacking too. For example, no US power adapter is provided. In bath room, the power outlet does not work because of "safety" reasons, so you have to plug in hair dryer outside and dry your hair without mirror.
- Location is not ideal. All restaurants and hotels are all on the south side of the island. There is not much to do nearby.
- We had a lizard co-inhabiting in the house.

Jun 2021We really enjoyed our stay at the bungalow. It felt like authentic Bora Bora. It was so lovely to watch all the boat traffic cruising by, hear the lull of the waves, and see the magnificent sunsets. Definitely take the kayak out for a paddle or two- it’s a very special experience. Nir and Tiare were responsive and welcoming and Richard was great in answering all my questions. We loved that they gave us a local cell phone to use and everyone on the island seemed to know them! It was really fun to rent “Mutiny on the Bounty” and know that Mr. Brando once enjoyed this beautiful place. Well equipped with lots of kitchen stuff. We didn’t cook much but we did make breakfast and cocktails :-). It’s a little far from town and you do need a car- make sure to rent from Nir as his rates are far better! Mauruuru for a wonderful stay.

Sep 2022We liked the view from the bungalow and the snorkeling in front of the bungalow.
Check in with Nir was great!
Beds were not comfortable, especially in the master. Furnitures are outdated.

Oct 2022We had a wonderful time in this over the water bungalow. The views were absolutely beautiful…. the water colors, fish, and rainbows. An incredible experience. Nir made check in and check out easy and we had access to a phone to call him at any time if we needed assistance. A great feeling when you are on vacation!

Aug 2020We had a group of 8 plus 1 infant and we rented 3 of the overwater bungalows. Bora Bora was absolutely beautiful and staying in this bungalows made it even better. We kayaked in the mornings to watch the sun rises. We were able to swim right out of our patio. Tiare helped to arrange a private chef for us for one night. It was magical. The chef and her assistant were excellent. If you have a chance to use them, don’t hesitate. They gave us a phone so we could communicate on the island and Tiare and Nir helped us with every question and all of our needs. We rented a car from Nir for a lot less than it costs in the rental places. The properties are all absolutely beautiful. I would stay again when I return I wish I could give it 10 stars.

Jul 2019We had a great two weeks at this bungalow in beautiful Bora Bora! It was spacious, well appointed, right over the water as advertised, private, and convenient by car to town, beach, shops, Heiva festival, and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again when we return to Bora Bora. Maururu!

Nov 2022We had a great stay at the Marlon Brando Bungalow. We recommend renting a car from Avis which is right near the arrival dock for the ferry from the airport. Great over water bungalow experience for significantly less than the resorts on Bora Bora. Check in was easy. The manager met us at the ferry with the key and instructions to get to the bungalow. Interior was well maintained and we appreciated the a/c and washing machine.
We’d definitely come back!

Feb 2019We fell in love with this place. Although it is located on the opposite side of the island from the main beach (there are no soft sandy beaches in Bora Bora, they all have coral and one has to wear aqua shoes), it is in a place that is just off the main road of the island and is big. We had a chance to look at other over-the-water properties at the resorts, and the rooms were surprisingly small. This place has two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two single beds. We prepared several meals in the kitchen and on the grill on the back porch.
There is a small dock and kayak, and it is like being above an aquarium. I think we saw about 10 varieties of tropical fish. We had just come from Hawaii where in January, the water temp was cool. But, the water off Bora Bora is like warm bath water. We were never cold.
I believe that this is also a good value. Although it is not cheap, there are very few comparable properties since the other over-the-water bungalows are at expensive resorts.
We never got the television to work...not sure why, but, the wifi was very strong and we watched netflicks in the evening.
For sure, if we were to return to Bora Bora, we would select this place.

Aug 2018We absolutely LOVED our bungalow. The location was perfect! The surrounding water had all kinds of sea life like sea cucumbers, sea turtles, octopuses and hundreds of fish. We had so much fun snorkeling right off our back patio area. There was also a really nice kayak that we enjoyed using every morning. Swimming with the family right near our bungalow was so much fun!
The house had a full kitchen and an outdoor BBQ so we went to the local grocery store and enjoyed eating at "home". :)
Richard and Nir were both so amazing and made sure we had the perfect trip!

Dec 2022This was our first trip to French Polynesia and we loved our time in Bora Bora. We avoided the resorts and booked with VRBO for a bungalow that was a fraction of the price of the resorts. The bungalow came with a rental car that enabled us to travel around the island. The car worked flawlessly and was a great addition to the trip.
Our bungalow worked great for our needs as we were able to shop at the local grocery store and roadside fruit stands for meals. We ate at the bungalow and enjoyed home cooked dinners each night. This set up allowed us to avoid costly restaurants and save on our budget.
We were provided with a kayak, life vests and other water accessories. We enjoyed snorkeling right off our back deck and found the morning and evening as especially good times to sit on the deck and enjoy the view.
We would recommend this place to anyone interested in enjoying the island life of Bora Bora without the costs of the resorts in Bora Bora.

May 2018This review could have easily been 3 stars, but Nir is amazing and went the extra mile to make up for some maintenance and housekeeping issues so we bumped it to 4 stars.
The bungalow is about 15 minutes drive from the main town and has great access to the lagoon with snorkeling right off the deck. We were two couples staying in the bungalow and saw rays, clams, and other reef fish. The AC was a must for us and made the nights cool and easy to fall asleep. Nir picked us up from the Ferry and after dropping him at his place we took his rental car to the bungalow. He provided a cell for our use.
When we arrived, we had several housekeeping issues - no soap, only sheets on the bed with no throws in the house, cobwebs and towels on the floor, no hangers, no garbage liners. After bringing it to Nir's attention, he sent someone right away to fix the issue and informed us the cleaning staff has been changed as it was not the first issue a guest had. When our coffee maker broke - he sent us a replacement (which very well could have been his personal appliance).
The house is a great bargain, but there are a number of maintenance issues - cracked granite countertop, shower door / sliding glass door misalignment, BBQ igniter missing, soft subfloors, fridge shelves broken, deck furniture heavily worn, and exposed subfloor and wiring upstairs. Nir attributed these issues to settling of the foundation and saltwater decay. While there is some truth to the explanation, there is clear deferred maintenance on the bungalow and the upstairs issue could be a hazard to children. Undoubtedly it is expensive to repair and at the rental rate charged, it is a fair expectation to have the maintenance completed. My sense is financial pressure is causing Ownership to defer needed repairs, and also some repairs are difficult to complete timely on the island. Overall the house is dated and is overdue for a refresh. Some of these items Nir mentioned are "on their way."
We debated whether we would come back to this bungalow or spend double on a bungalow at a hotel next time. As two couples, the cost difference was worth roughing it a bit since we were able to split the rent. For just my family, I would probably go the hotel route. Nevertheless, we plan to return and hope the bungalow has been updated for a more enjoyable stay.

Oct 2018This is an awesome over water bungalow if you are looking for wonderful views, snorkeling right off the deck and the most beautiful sunsets. The home is well equipped and had everything we needed. This is not one of the overpriced luxury bungalows, so if that is what you want, this isn’t the place.
It is a bit of a drive into Vaitape so a car is needed. We rented a car through Nir and it worked but was pretty small. Plan on getting a cab to carry the luggage to and from the port because the car holds four persons and maybe two suitcases. Nir was awesome and helped us out whenever we had a question. I will definitely come back again.

Dec 2019The location is stunning with post card views all around. We were a party of 4 and it would perfectly for us and the air conditioning was good to come back to each day! We actually only expected it in the bedrooms but it was in the entire unit. The location is only a 10 - 15 min drive to the harbor and you can circle the island in an hour …… if you don't stop to take pictures every 10 feet.
The unit does need a bit of TLC - some light blankets in the second bedroom, a few more pillows. In the kitchen dishes and glassware need replacement.
IMPORTANT: With the wonderful private nature of this unit there is really no security. We made the mistake of being lax and not locking the sliding doors that face the lagoon at night. During the night while sleeping a thief came in from the lagoon and took a bag from the main room that had a passport and cash. Police advised that this happens. This unit does have a camera facing the back dock - however it's a "dummy" and does not work. The good news is the bag was thrown in the lagoon (minus cash) and it floated to shore with a soggy passport floating next to it……. Oh well, live and learn we will be much more careful in the future.

Mar 2019The location and the hospitality were superb. Our caretaker, Nir, was a joy, and utterly prepared. Wish we could have spent more time with him. On a tour we took of the surrounding water, our guides from Lagunarium singled out the place for mention, and were impressed that we were staying there. It's not luxury digs, but all we could want. Loved it.
Little nits to pick:
- The Hot Water is dangerously too hot - enough to seriously scald someone, requiring medical attention. And given the interest in conserving electricity, would wonder why it is set so high.
- Neighbor's dogs bark a lot
- Sliding door off living room is very difficult to open/close.
- DVD player wouldn't play Mutiny on the Bounty! (Or any other disc.)
Thanks for having the water sports accessories available. Thanks for everything! It was worth spending all those hours on planes and in airports to get there.

Apr 2018The coolest thing about staying here is that you get to experience Bora Bora like a local. Wake up to the rooster crows, shop in the town's grocery store, hear the neighbor’s ukulele. We split our stay between this bungalow and the Intercontinental Thalasso. Staying on the island before heading off to the isolated resort gave us a much more complete picture of the true Bora Bora.
The bungalow has a real rustic beach cabin vibe. There was lots of space for our family of 3. A family of 4, or 2 couples, would be totally comfortable. Snorkeling off the deck was a huge plus, just jump in and see tons of fish and coral right there. The kitchen has a full-sized fridge, stovetop, microwave, and toaster oven. It was fine for breakfast and lunch, but not necessarily stocked for making a big dinner. We enjoyed dinner at St. James and the Yacht Club which are about 15 minutes down the road.
Be sure to rent a car from the house manager Nir. He makes it really easy, and you will need a car when you stay here.

Aug 2021The bungalow was the perfect spot for us. It is located in a quiet area of Vaitape. Nir was extremely helpful with dinner reservations, and suggestions on various tours. Renting the car from Nir was ideal. We spent many evenings sitting on the porch watching the beautiful sunsets. Would recommend staying here in a heartbeat.

Sep 2018Spent 4 nights here and loved it.
Nir was at the airport waiting and hooked us up with a rental car- much needed on the island.
House was just as described and pictured.
We loved taking drives around the one road island.
Shopping and eating at the house.
Much more freedom than a hotel stay.
We did two days of diving with top dive and the picked us up from the dock outside.
Amazing.
Loved it!
I highly recommend!

Aug 2019My family of four stayed for a week in Brando's Over Water Bungalow. The property is exactly as described. It is well suited for a family with 2 bedrooms, nice bathroom with double vanities and an amazing shower, well equipped kitchen, and spacious living room. The availability of a grill and outdoor dining area allowed us to cook many delicious meals while enjoying the sunset. We also enjoyed watching the outrigger canoes passing by. There is easy access to the water from a ladder on the dock so we enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking in front of the bungalow. My teenagers appreciated access to high-speed Wifi and watching Netflix on the large TV after sunset. The bungalow is in a convenient location- close to shopping and to Matira Beach. Our favorite activity was the lagoon tour and we were even picked up at the bungalow! The lagoon tour is definitely a must-do activity. Snorkeling with the black tip reef sharks and the beautiful fish at Coral Gardens is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We decided to rent a car from Nir which was useful for trips to the market and circling the island. I can't compliment Richard and Nir enough for making our vacation amazing! They were the perfect hosts- helpful and responsive. They provided a clean, well-equipped, attractively decorated home away from home. I would definitely recommend the bungalow to others and would stay there again if we're ever lucky enough to return to Bora Bora.

Dec 2018I thought the bungalow was great. We had a 2 BR bungalow for 1/2 the price of a hotel room at the resort. The property manager Nir was great and provided good recommendations for restaurants and activities. He also rented us a car for a lower price than Avis. Lots of cool tropical fish, clams, coral, sea cucumbers right off the dock. I plan to come back soon and likely stay at this bungalow if available.

Jul 2022If you want an affordable over the water bungalow in Bora Bora, THIS is the place to stay! You will enjoy the accomodations of the home and the fantastic view of sea life right from your deck. Be sure to rent the car from Nir as you will need it to get to the store, bank, and around the island. We brought fishing poles for "catch and release" fishing and floaties to float on the water. We also brought our own snorkeling gear as there is much to see from the dock. If you need anything or want to book an excursion, ask Nir first. It was fantastic to be picked up from our dock for water excursions or out on the road for our land excursions. Our family of four had a fabulous time and it was very hard to leave to go back to the fast paced life in California!
