Nov 2021We were spending a day and night away from Wellington. This was a cosy place to sleep in a peaceful setting. 9 year old Sam bonded with Ruby the donkey and her sheep friend.

Feb 2020We thought Dougal and Denise were nice and friendly and helpful. We like the concept of the railway carriages and outside basin and loo but the bedroom was musky smelling, especially the roll out bed and blankets. The beds were comfortable. The shower was clean but the curtain smelt. There were mozzy's at night and no screens on the bedroom windows. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the accommodation was fairly priced.

Feb 2022We loved Te Rakau cabins. Basic but nice set-up, very quiet, lots of birds and animals around. Short drive to the beach. Friendly host. Kids absolutely loved the farm animals and are still taking about Ruby the Donkey, Gordon the pig etc.

Oct 2020We had a great time away! Cool set up with the two carriages (one for sleeping and the other with shower, dining and kitchen). Fun accessing the toilet from outside as well. The location is remote but very scenic, and not too long a drive to Featherston, Martinborough and co.Would definitely stay again, but next time bring more supplies and take advantage of the bbq

Jan 2020Stopped one night whilst doing the cycle trail.
Carried our own food but everything else was supplied.
For us it was a perfect quiet location, the walks and animals enhanced it.

Aug 2022Staying in the cabins was great, we had some very rainy weather but still found lots to do. The kitchen set up was perfect, we were able to make some delicious meals and just hang out and relax. Loved seeing the seals and doing the pinnacles walk (they're about a 40 min drive away). The only improvement I'd suggest is to have Denise and Dougal send the check-in info a day or two before the booking but otherwise check-in was smooth and everything was as expected. Also loved the animals, especially Ruby and Gordon!

Mar 2020My mum and I stayed one night whilst doing the Remutaka Cycle Trail. What a cute cabin, equipped with everything we needed. After a long two days cycling, it was bliss staying here - a nice warm shower and cosy bed! I hope to be back! Thank you Denise and Dougal.

Nov 2019My father and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Te Rakau Cabins. The cabin was quirky in a fun way (old train cars!) and had everything we needed for an overnight stay and more. The beds were comfortable and the view was beautiful. Dougal and Denise were both such a pleasure to meet, and we enjoyed the bird tour we booked with them very much. Dougal’s knowledge of the wildlife, the area, and the history were a treat. Denise had a prior commitment that kept her out of the tour, but we were glad we got to meet her and could tell she would have been fun to have along. I would highly recommend Te Rakau to anyone who wants a local experience.
