Crashing Surf
A positive experience. Great location adjacent to some great surf. Well stocked with all kinds of equipment. Getting the front gate to close was a challenge. Parking is easy. Location on Ali’i Drive was good. Not close to downtown town hustle and bustle but at the same time not totally remote and rural. Only issue we had was one of upstairs showers leaked down on range top in the kitchen. Hot tub had only one inflow port.
The house is in good condition. The property manager was responsive and good.

Beautiful View Kona home
Loved our stay in Kona. The house has a beautiful view and is located close enough to beach, dining, shopping etc. It was clean and well stocked, but is showing some sign of age and exposure to salt air. That said, I would gladly stay here again next time to Kona

Overall Pleasant Stay
overall was a great stay at the property. spacious, clean, and well-stocked with amenities especially towels. also the views are amazing. as the back part of the property faces west, sunsets were visible every single night and also we were able to see the moonset as well in the early hrs of the morning before the sun came up.
at check-in, the property was a bit hot since it was in the dead of summer and we did have to use the a/c and it was a painless process since the property manager was easily reachable and professional.
the property manager was easy to deal with and communicated well and quickly.
staying here i would definitely recommend having a vehicle as there really isn't anything closely walkable from here. the coconut grove marketplace is a few miles away. the property is gated that would fit one vehicle inside.
there are a few minor things that could use a bit more upkeep (windows, screens, etc) but nothing that really impacted our stay.
would recommend staying at this property

Beautiful Location
Property is located in a beautiful area. Home itself needs some updating and overall maintenance in all aspects of the home. Pics are a bit deceiving and outdated. However, the sunset from this property is awesome and we did see whales right from the balcony. It was awesome to hear the ocean at night. Plenty of room for the entire family of 8.

A/C is extra cost so we didn’t use it
The home has a perfect view and the sound of the ocean waves is extremely relaxing. Kitchen had everything we needed except enough glasses for our group of 6. Dryer worked on and off so at times we had to hang clothes to dry. The outdoor shower and the hot tub did not work but they did send repairmen within 24 hours. The floor was so dirty all of our feet were black pretty quickly. Beds were comfortable but not as shown in pictures. There is not a room with 2 twins but another queen. 1/2 the beach items in the garage are broken and should be thrown out. Comfortable chairs and beds. Excellent location. You can’t hear the road at all which was a concern. Would stay here again.

Beautiful View
The location and view from this house was stunning. The sound of the waves crashing all night lulled us to sleep! We saw dolphins and many fish from the lani's. I have to say though that some updating of the windows and screens are much needed. Very tough to open and close! Also, we arrived after a very long flight to a very hot house! We had chosen no A/C, so a good idea for the next renters, to have some windows open the day of arrival to allow the house to cool down.

A house that made our holiday special!
The perfect place for our family for a perfect week. At breakfast the first morning we saw spinner dolphins from the wide-open-patio-doors as we ate. At lunch on day 3 we watched a whale swim north along the shore. On our last night we saw an unparallelled sunset. We walked north 5 minutes to go boogie-boarding; south 5 minutes to snorkel. Each night we fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing just in front of our windows. It was brilliant. A few screens and windows and patio locks were rusted shut or open from sea-mist - it made no difference at all to the fantastic experience we had here. We cant wait to come again.

Kona Getaway
The property itself has a great location and plenty of room. As others have commented, it is not the best place as far as upkeep. Lots of little things that could be fixed (i.e. hole in the kitchen ceiling, broken seals on doors, etc.) I know that bugs are common to the area, but it seemed that there was an abundance. Perhaps the pest control services need to be upgraded.

Beautiful View but the house needs care
This house got a billion dollar view but the house needs a major repair. We had multiple issues during our stay (two many). The management was very responsive and gave us a huge discount. They said they will repair the house thoroughly before renting it out again so hopefully it works out. I hope for the best for the management too since they are really nice and I forgot all the issues we had and miss the view already!

Loved views & local. Very clean. Needs some TLC to be top notch
House is well equiped and clean. Tons of towels and Beach stuff. Beautiful fantastic views especially sunsets. We watched a pod of whales about 40 yards right off the shore in front of us! Some maintenance would help - one suite had no AC and the blinds would not go up so no air circulation to cool down. Property manager was aware before we arrived, but no one showed up to fix it. Screens missing from some windows, and some did not open while some did not close. Great hot tub and little pool in front! Ask ahead of time how to turn on the HTub heat. Area underneath the house needs cleaning up and funiture replaced - rusty bench with no cushions and the sandbox was in no condition for my grandaughter to play in. Fantastic well stocked kitchen. Super convenient to shops and beaches. At times the road was busy - for Hawaii- but morning traffic noise was only slightly noticible from master suite. With the Ocean waves so close we all slept well and woke refreshed. We had a wonderful time!

Great Home and Oceanfront setting
home excessively hot on check in. Meaning it was necessary to add AC to the reservation. Home needs maintenance attention in several areas that were communicated to manager. Despite this, the home is lovely and our stay was great. The home is well stocked with linens and back and activity supplies. Would stay again.

First time to vacation in Kona was a pleasant surprise
My whole extended family, including my parents and brother's family, totaling 9 people really enjoyed our stay. The location on the water was beautiful and walking distance to beaches in both directions on Alii drive. We even fished right off the rocks in front of the house. The sunsets were amazing and we even saw some whales and dolphins. Inside, the house had everything we needed. We cooked often while the kids enjoyed the jacuzzi and small pool. Wayne was a great property manager who had the TV replaced when it broke. I would highly recommend the house to anybody who is looking for more than a house on a golf course.

Location, location, location
15 of our family spent the week after Xmas there!! Ages from 5 to 70. Really well equipped, the kitchen had everything, once you found it. Whales and spinner dolphins from deck. Thanks for the beach towels and water sports toys. The younger kids spent lots of time in the splash pool. Week went too fast

WOW! Amazing!
A dreamhouse right on the water with a fabulous kitchen and lots of extras like beach chairs and sunscreen. The house was spacious and clean. The dipping pool and jacuzzi were wonderful and it was very close to Kahalu beach park which was great for snorkeling.

Oceanfront Retreat
A perfect retreat for our family! Hale Honu was well located, spacious and had all the amenities at our fingertips. We left with fond memories of the sound of powerful waves crashing against the lava rocks and the gorgeous sunsets viewed from the outside verandas. Truly a home away from home!

Great location and view, detracted by maintenance issues
Enjoyed location as described online and worth the expense. House was very clean. However, there were many maintenance issues that detracted from what would have been otherwise a 5 star rating that could have been resolved with attention before our rental. Garage door was jammed close. Frig had stopped cooling & needed replacement. Many light bulbs out. Missing sink stoppers. A couple of missing screens (keep bugs out). One jammed window. Upstairs TV unresponsive to remote (TV was replaced). One ceiling fan did not work. To be fair, manager quickly addressed each issue, but should check maintenance issues of house between renters to be proactive rather than reactive for the rental rate being paid. Should also have informed us of the broken garage door in advance of stay, as that kept us from securing car each day, a key reason we rented this property.

Gorgeous home with waves crashing on the rocks feet away. Location was wonderful with short walks to both a wonderful snorkel beach and a sandy beach. Away from the busyness of Kona itself.

Great property & location!
Great location! There were a few minor maintenance issues, with were quickly dealt with by the management company. This is a very nice property. We would rent this again, we had a great time! The only suggestion I would make, is to send a more comprehensive set of instructions prior to arrival.

Great to have snorkel gear, beach equipment (coolers, umbrellas, etc.) and golf clubs available. Outstanding ocean views from all bedrooms.Highly recommended!!

As good as it gets
Hale Honu exceeded my expectations. The view was phenomenal and the wind and sound that come through lanai give the house a real sense of the Hawaiian experience. Value was competitive, condition was acceptable, and there were a lot of little bugs you learn to ignore. Great location just south of downtown Kona.

Great Time
Hale Honu is a great place to stay. The view from the Lanai is truly beautiful and a great place to enjoy meals. The house was clean and very well kept. Everything you need is there except for groceries.
Some things I would like to see change:
1. The electric gate will not open automatically when you want to leave. Someone has to push the gate button inside the entry way and then another needs to stand by the gate so it doesn't close on you before you get your car out of the garage. I don't know why a gate transmitter is not trusted to renters when the garage door opener is.
2. We had an unpleasant visit from the pool boy who accused us of using the swimming pool to clean our sandy dive gear. We had to call the property manager to get him out of there. Very rude and quite insulting to be accused by a kid.
3. When you exit, you are asked to put all towels and sheets in the washer and start loads. Seems to me that with a 4 bedroom house and quite a number of sheets, this should be covered in the cleaning fee. Quite strange to do laundry on the day you are leaving especially when you have an early flight.
All in all, would recommend but you need to be aware of some quirks.

Beautiful home in the perfect location
I couldn't have been happier with our stay at Hale Honu-Oceanfront. The property is beautiful, but nothing beats the view. The outdoor shower is an unexpected perk. We had a mongoose join us for a day (due to us leaving the door open during "move-in"), but he quickly evacuated and did not pose any threats. He went to the bathroom on the floor, and the owner had someone come and remove the droppings immediately. We had an AC issue upon arrival, and it was fixed within hours. The owner was reachable at all times and beyond responsive.
We were visiting Kona to work at the IRONMAN World Championships. It was an ideal location - close to the athlete village and everywhere downtown as well as on the run course. We worked hard all day and did networking at night, and it felt like coming home after a long day. We will be staying again next year.

Best place in Kona
If this home is available for your stay stop looking and reserve it now. It is fully equipped with everything needed (even a stroller, high chairs, and outlet covers). The garage is filled with sports equipment and beach gear, and the snorkeling right out the back door is great. The layout of the main floor is very open and a great place for large groups to relax, and the huge sliding doors make it feel like you are on a 5 million dollar yacht. Seriously this place is fantastic.

One Word: AMAZING!
It has been two months and we are all still raving about how amazing our vacation at Hale Honu was!! It was a beautiful home, and being able to listen to the ocean 24/7 just outside every door and window was an unforgettable experience! There was plenty of room to entertain our family without stepping on each other! We enjoyed every aspect of our vacation...the walk-in shower in the master suite was so amazing! Thank you for providing such a fabulous home to share! If we get the chance to get back to Kona, we will look up the property again! Mahalo!!

Beautiful Hawaii home
Our party of 4 couples truly enjoyed our stay at this oceanfront home just a short distance from Kona. We were able to see whales & dolphins daily and lots of canoe and boats out on the water. Saw gorgeous sunsets and even when it rained it didn't bother us. There were a couple of maintenance issues but Wayne was quick to reply and get the issues taken care of. Would definitely recommend the home. Very comfortable and everything you need in kitchen for cooking if you choose! Lots of beach towels, snorkel gear & beach mats etc. Thanks for making everything so easy!
