The owner of this guesthouse is very friendly and outgoing. He knows about Matsushima and speaks English very well that he can share many tips on visiting Matsushima; The location is excellent - it sits near the center of Matsushima Bay so that I can visit any sightseeing spots simply by walking. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse for any backpackers who are looking for a guesthouse to stay for 1-2 nights at Matsushima.

a beautiful property, great modern accommodation very close to the sightseeing places. our host was excellent telling us about local events and recommended sightseeing to do. He suggested an onsen overlooking the red bridge and it was a highlight of our stay. thank you a great place to stay

The owner is a great guy and speaks very good English; we had a great time in the evening chatting with him and tapping on his formidable vinyl collection. - The guesthouse is situated right in the middle of Matsushima - It is a simple guesthouse so you shouldn't go in expecting luxury, but the beds are comfy and the whole place is spotlessly clean

The owner is one of the friendliest people I've met so far. He knows Matsushima really well and gave me some good tips where to go for dinner and where I can take some beautiful pictures. At the evening he played some music and we had a nice talk. I was also able to leave my luggage before the check-in and also after the check-out. So if you are looking for a nice and friendly place to stay at Matsushima, I highly recommend the "Uchi Guesthouse".

Very close to the shopping street and train station, friendly and accommodating owner, and clean room

The staff was very friendly, speaks english too. I received many good tips to travel and enjoy Matsushima, as well as coupons for hot springs. The location is perfect: near the main areas, the festival, the station, and also close to hidden cafe and a bakery (check these if you stay here) My room was bigger than expected (I got upgraded), very clean and well equipped. Towel was provided for free, and I also had a snack upon check-in, which is very nice after an exhausting day 😃 The building was very calm, room was easily accessible (only a few stairs) Facilities are nice, clean

During my stay, the only common room was closed (due to pandemic), which is a bar. As a result, it's difficult to meet other guests and chat with them in the guesthouse. The staff told me he expects to reopen it as soon as possible, so I really look forward to my next stay there.

Wonderful place: new, clean, nice, comfortable. Plenty of windows to let light and fresh air in, in the bathroom too! Room is spacious for one and the bed comfortable. Cost/performance is very good. And also, an amazing host! Totally recommended!

Great location right next to the sea and the temples. The owner was very friendly. He spoke great English so was able to give us lots of helpful information about the area.

Get to know the local

The place is more for backpackers with a limited budget. The room is quite small, with no decoration but very clean. Basically, it is 2 comfortable beds and that is it. The bathroom is shared but with good water pressure and hot. Breakfast is very basic but I believe this is because of the COVID. The owner is very nice and had prepared for us a list of things to see in the area. His recommendations were very useful. The guesthouse is right in the middle of the touristic places which allow you to go for early walks.

Probably because of the COVID the common area was not accessible which is the highlights of the travellers comments so you end up in a tiny little room. We were lucky that the weather was amazing because on a rainy day it is not ideal. This place is a good value for money but this is more for backpackers than a family

Great location in a new, attractive, and comfortable house. He even provided a (simple) breakfast!

The bathroom, shower, and sinks are shared with the other guests. This was no problem, though. Facilities were clean, spacious, and practical.

I arrived very very late but nothing was too much trouble for Eiju who recommended a restaurant for dinner (which was great), sightseeing spots, provided an English map, took me to the park overlooking the bay which I hadn’t been able to get to and even dropped me and my heavy luggage off at Matsushima Station.
