It is close to the railway station. Has a definite Japanese flavor. There is a nice lounge with tea and coffee. The onsen is small but lovely. You book a private time. Breakfast is served in a bento box but it is western flavor.
The beds are very close to the floor, it could be a problem for some people.

Clean, close to train station. In house onsen and in room bathroom.

We liked everything about this gorgeous little hotel. the fact that it had only a small number of rooms was one of the great things about it. From the time you ring the door bell, you are well taken care of
There was nothing about the Ichinomatsu Modern Japanese Hotel that we didn't like. Everything was great. One of our rooms was upstairs and bags had to be carried up, but that wasn't a deal breaker. Staff were so helpful

Breakfast (in a lunch box) very good, mostly the traditional Japanese one. The western version the day after was good as well.
Kitchen available.
Wonderful private onsen (to be booked in advance)
Comfortable Japanese style room (mattress instead of futon)
Far away (15minutes walking) from the center in an area a bit empty

private Onsen is a plus, and it’s pretty close to the train station!
kinda far from the town itself, which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s also a bit expensive for what it is.

This is a great homely hotel with an excellent private Onsen.
The information at check-in was thorough. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean.
The Onsen after your day exploring or trekking (we went to Kamikochi for the day) was welcomed and relaxing.
The Izakaya type restaurants which were recommended by the owner, and about a 10 - 15 min walk away, we're great too.
All in all, we loved our time here.

Very kind staff, nice spacious room
Not very nice neighborhood, looks better in pictures, breakfast came in a bento. Overall not great quality I would say considering the price.

The hotel has a wonderful onsen, a great traditional breakfast and lounge room.
Staff was amazing.

Staff were super helpful & friendly, room was clean and spacious. We treated ourselves to the in room onsen - it was fab!
Breakfast is a takeaway bento box, tasty but we definitely had better breakfasts at other hotels in Japan.

The breakfast box was very good. The easy walk from the train station was convenient. The hotel had a boutique type feel. Our favorite thing was the private onsen that we were able to reserve several times after our arrival. The complimentary tea and coffee in the lovely common area was a very nice touch.
There is really no place to put your clothes or suitcases. A closet, dresser, or at least 2 luggage racks would be nice. We were in the annex next to the smoking room. One evening the smoke smell did reach our room. Moving or better yet eliminating the smoking room would be an improvement. Besides these minor inconveniences, it is a lovely place and I would highly recommend it and would stay there again.

Honestly one of the best hotels I had so far in Japan (and I had a lot). Close to the railway station, really comfy, nice design, good breakfast - and on top, of course the Onsen, which is easy to book - everybody gets the chance to use it.
And the owner, so kind! We would love to come back sometime. :)

We loved that it's just a 5 min walk from the train station and how accessible it is to nearby restaurants. The rooms are well appointed with good amenities considering it's a Ryokan. They have a private Onsen that you may schedule for us, a nice and cozy lounging area where we could have our breakfast and coffee. The staff were very helpful. The manager had a translator device so language was not a huge barrier.
Nothing, the place is recommendable to our friends!

Great modern style traditional Japanese hotel with a beautiful small onsen outside which you can book a private slot in, nicely decorated, comfortable rooms and a cute little breakfast box in the morning. Highly recommend!

Reception is exceptional. She is very helpful and supportive active. She can tell whatever you ask and really friendly.
Air conditioner is quite noisy and room doesn’t sound proof.

The staff (M Hoshino) was the friendliest and most helpful and welcoming reception we’ve had in Japan! She spoke great English and gave us lots of tips about things to do in town/local area. The hotel itself is very clean, has great shared kitchen facilities including free tea/coffee, a small hot spring bath (you had to book a private slot per group due to COVID) and rooms were spacious. The beds were really comfy too so we slept very well. Would highly recommend!
The hotel is a short walk into the main area of town - not an issue for us as only took around 10-15 minutes before you’re in the main tourist streets / “old town”

Crean and cozy room. We especially enjoyed outdoor bath!
