Hotel Diego de Velazquez

The staff went above and beyond. Claudio, who works as a bellman/luggage attendant on the night shift, welcomed us and explained everything about our room. He helped us with our luggage and noticed that we weren’t comfortable staying on the upper floor (the 8th floor) because of the elevator. He made sure to inform the reception team so they could change our room for our second reservation a few days later, and we were given a room on a lower floor that was perfect. When we left, he brought some pieces of cake for my mother and me because we were leaving the hotel before breakfast started. He was always pleasant, kind, and accommodating. I also remember Ignacio and Silvana from the reception, the night auditor (the English teacher), and one of the bellmen who worked in the afternoon and spoke a lot of Portuguese with my mother. She loved being able to talk to someone in her own language. The staff was truly amazing. I also really liked the breakfast. Some people mentioned in the reviews that there isn’t a huge variety, but for my mother and me, it was more than enough. Everything tasted good, too. For our second reservation, we were accommodated on the second floor, and I loved it. It was easy to get to and from the room, and it was very close to the reception. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and truly appreciated how kind and attentive the entire staff was.

Our room on the 8th floor (room 810) was quite old and not very functional. We couldn’t find enough outlets in the room. I had to move my bed to access the outlet behind it, and my mother had to use the outlet from the mini fridge. The bed in room 810 was also quite small. It was very different from our second reservation in room 210, where the bed was noticeably bigger, even though it was also a twin room. The bathroom in room 810 had a bathtub, which was not ideal for older guests. My mother hit her knee while using it, and I don’t think this type of bathroom is suitable for someone with limited mobility. I’m not sure why, but room 810 felt much older and less comfortable overall, while room 210 was much more comfortable and better organized. The difference between the two rooms was quite significant, even though they were in the same hotel.

The gym doesn’t work. Practically all the machines are busted.

Great Location - close to shops, dining and metro. Felt safe walking around day and night. The cleaner offered us chocolates each night. Friendly and helpful staff.

The breakfast was good but it was the same nearly everyday. The room (and bathroom) was a bit small for three people with luggage but we managed.

The location was awesome.

The duvet and duvet cover clearly is never washed and it looks very bad. The shower was very small and the water kept coming out onto the floor making it very slippery. Rooms look very outdated and gross as well.
