Beautiful and peaceful

Beautiful, peaceful surroundings so close to town center, which you can walk to through the Cathedral gardens. So much time and effort put into the gardens at Ah House, a positive delight to look around, such an oasis to come back to after working all day.

I’ve stayed in many B and B’s, and this is one of the best!

The hosts, Mark and John, are the best! Warm, friendly, thinking of every detail to make it a restful yet interesting place to stay in Nelson. Location is great! I would highly recommend a stop here in Nelson on the way somewhere else, or as a destination itself

Definitely for recommendation for friends and family

Our hosts couldn't have done more - lovely and fully equipped rooms, fantastic breakfast and excellent travel tips. Also great location, easy parking and a stone's throw from everything Nelson has to offer. Loved it!

Two weeks of short stays in NZ this was by fat the most enjoyable. Thank you Mark and John.

Cannot say enough nice things about our stay here. So much thought put into making the accommodation comfortable and inviting, a great hot breakfast every morning and such interesting and accommodating hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, they thoroughly deserve all the awards they have won.

Our visit was too short.

What a super place to stay - lovely large apartment with everything you might need or want and some. A fabulous garden with loads of things to see & experience with options of places to relax. We had a yummy cooked breakfast to start our day. Mark, John & Bella top it off perfectly - fabulous hosts very welcoming, friendly & informative who very much respect your privacy. Ah house is situated in Central Nelson with private parking. Restaurants, cafes, shops & Cathedral only couple hundred metres away. I think next time I would like to try a garden room, I imagine it to be kind of like glamping. I really do hope it is not too long before we go there again.

As good as it can be. Highly recommended

Mark and John’s delightful and welcoming B&B has won awards, and no wonder. It is close to perfection, and great value. The house is on a quiet street, with free parking outside, and just a five-minute walk along a leafy path to the main restaurant area of Nelson, and the shops beyond. We had the garden rooms, two adjacent, cosy and well-insulated cabins on a wooden terrace. One comprises the bedroom and bathroom, the other a lounge with microwave, coffee etc. Both have TVs. Provision of extras is outstanding, as if the hosts have envisaged every guest need. We found plug adapters, a torch, umbrellas, hats, books, CDs, scissors and maps. For anything not there, just ask. The quirky garden is lovely, filled with plants, pots, lights and ceramics. The main house full of character and charm. The cooked breakfast was good, eggs, bacon and tomatoes, plus toast, fruit and cereal (muesli would be welcome as standard). There are plenty of information leaflets, and Mark is a friendly but not intrusive host, able to give good advice about local restaurants and places to visit.

The only slight deficiency is that the bathroom is small, with an OK shower, tiny basin and cartridge toilet - the type one finds in a mobile home, emptied daily by our hosts. But we got used to this.

Mark and John are the ultimate hosts who cannot do enough for you to make your stay memorable and comfortable. A breakfast is served that is tailored to the guest requests.

Nothing. The room we use has a chemical toilet, which was fully expected and disclosed throughout the booking process and is cleaned daily.

A beautiful, plush apartment. Mark, John and Bella make you feel at home with their friendliness and humour. A lovely, yummy breakfast is presented in the morning (their berry jam was berry good, made with fruits from their garden). The location is perfect being near the centre of Nelson. The garden apartment was spacious, warm and spotlessly clean and well equipped. The super king bed was exceptionally comfortable. All round a wonderful stay and definitely a place to stay again.

This is only a tinsy wee niggle, but maybe offer a later breakfast time to 9am for us late risers!

Simply superb!

Hosts were amazing, the location was walkable to the city, the room was private and well thought out with amenities. The breakfast was home cooked and delicious!

The shower runs on gas so we had a cold shower until we realized it needed to be changed, no big deal but just an FYI for future travelers

Most homestay hosts could learn from a stay at Ah House!

I didn't really believe the reviews I read but went with it anyway. It's almost a contradiction how the hosts can be so unbelievably hospitable while still leaving guests plenty of privacy! They provide superb lodgings and amenities and they are extraordinarily welcoming. They even left a couple of complementary cans of craft beer for the weary traveler.

After waxing lyrical about Ah House, everyone else will want to go there and I'll probably never be able to find it vacant again.

A delightful oasis in Nelson

What a delight! This B&B is just on the edge of the town but is a world away, in a quiet garden setting. Immaculate presentation of rooms, garden and breakfast area. High quality linens, toiletries and nice little touches like robes and complimentary welcome drink in the fridge. Bed was comfortable and the shower hot. Bathroom is compact but it's not like we needed to be in there often! Breakfast was top notch with cooked or lighter options available. Our hosts were so welcoming, explaining the B&B, it's facilities and giving us great advice on dining out and sightseeing options. But, they were never intrusive. The apartment itself is completely self contained and separate to the house so you can interact as little or as much as you like. There is a separate lounge area, beside the apartment, for the exclusive use of apartment guests. The B&B is eco friendly, making sure that all products used are low impact and garden friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again. Great value and a welcome respite from living out of a suitcase.

Relaxed and friendly

John & Mark we’re really friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was cooked fresh for us each morning with tea and coffee ready for us as we walked in. The property is very clean and comfortable. Being able to sit in the garden when we needed a break from sightseeing was great. The location is brilliant for exploring central Nelson and Mark and John made lots of recommendations regarding things to do and places to eat.

A beautiful property in the heart of town run by great owners.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nt stay at Ah House in a quiet street in the heart of Nelson. We stayed in the Garden Guest House which consists of two adjoining buildings being your bedroom / bathroom and separate lounge all surrounded by stunning gardens.

We were happy with every aspect of our time there. Mark and John who own and run the property are particularly good hosts where nothing appears to be a problem. They’re full of local intel on where to eat, visit or sightsee.
