Absolutely loved this hostel! The owners and staff are the loveliest people. The location is great and very safe. There are cafes, restaurants and a supermarket nearby. 15min walk to the beach. The breakfast was really nice. I stayed in the female dorm and it was very clean and spacious. I will definitely be going back at the end of my trip!

Great location, with pool, aircon in all rooms. Wifi is very good - enough for remote work. Washing machine available on the property !
The place doesn't have a generator, so if there's a power cut, you need to go to a cafe for wifi.

The Gallivanters Hostel is located just outside and in a nice and quiet location. There are 2 supermarkets and restaurants within walking distance. If you like walking a lot, you can also walk wonderfully to the waterfront.
From the bus station I took a Bajaji and to the airport I took an Uber taxi.
A breakfast is offered, which also includes delicious fruits. You can cook lunch and dinner as you wish in the self-catering kitchen.
The female dorm is clean and large, the beds are comfortable and there is a large closet to store a few things. There is air conditioning (very good, it was very hot in Dar when I was there) and plenty of coat hooks. The bathroom has a small water problem, there was always a puddle on the floor, but you could shower nice and hot.
There are several places to chill out and an outdoor pool - but unfortunately I didn't use it because I was always on the go. But a girl in my room was swimming in it every day.
The entire Gallivanters team is very friendly, helpful and very relaxed. I would come back!

The colorful paint, ambiance, space (there's enough room to be with people and to be alone. There are plenty of sitting areas, lounge, and dining. There's a clean swimming pool and the breakfast was nice. A simple sandwich and fruit. The ladies are available to do laundry at a fee.
My dorm (of 4 beds) was large with a high ceiling and private bathroom. It is located in a safe place, behind embassies, close to shops and just a walk to Coco Beach. The owners are great people, and helpful.
They have clean white bedding and free towels (most backpackers charge for towels) which is great!
The aircon was not adjustable.

Despite my disappointments, the staff did try to help and rectify the situation. The other guests were very friendly and welcoming. There was no choice with breakfast but you are provided with a range of foods.
Unfortunately there was a miscommunication or misunderstanding of the facilities. There is not yet a bar or restaurant therefore there is no drinking water available which was a problem coming straight from the airport. The staff kindly sent someone to a local shop to buy me water as I did not want to go out in an area I did not know in the dark as a solo, young female traveller.
Despite the information on booking.com, the standard twin room does NOT have air conditioning. It does have a ceiling fan and would have been comfortable except for the lack of cleanliness.
The shared mixed bathroom had a slatted door that anyone can look through. This was also unclean.
I did feedback my complaints to the manager but they were not taken constructively.

Large clean room with comfortable bed - although headboard not fixed to wall so bangs everything you roll over. Manager was friendly on arrival. Kitchen ladies were absolutely lovely and breakfast was adequate for a hostel and the price.
Firstly, we arrived after dark and windows of our room had been left wide open with lights on so the room was FULL of mosquitoes and despite spraying we got eaten alive! Secondly, there was no drinking water available for purchase. We arrived late straight from the airport and the close-by shops were all shut. Lastly, in the morning, there was no water for a shower.
WE PACKED & CHECKED OUT IMMEDIATELY DESPITE PAYING FOR 2 NIGHTS ... would've been happy to provide this feedback privately if we'd been asked why we had left.

Decent hostel. Easy to walk to restaurants and grocery stores. Felt safe.
They gave away our king private room that we booked through booking.com, so we ended up with 2 twin beds. The floor was really dirty in the room. The shower didn't drain well, so the bathroom would flood.

The hostel is in the really nice and quiet diplomatic quarter. The staff is really friendly and the chill-out area with the pool was great.

staff were very welcoming, nice mannered and spirited. Helpful with queries or concerns and tried to deal with matters quickly. Location was good, close to amenities, shops and restaurants and not far from the beach

Lovely hosts,very helpful and attentive.,Clean,safe facility, centrally located and easy to access from the airport .Strong WiFi connection,always on ,never experienced any issues.Great value for money!

Super friendly staff, good location and comfy matresses. Nice swimming pool, and common areas ideal to meet people.

Bathrooms were not very clean and smelled bad
No water in the shower during the day
Breakfast was very basic (1 scrambled egg, very salty, 2 white bread toasts with margarine, and instant coffee)

Nice and secured place. I just stayed there for a couple of days, and it was confortable and filled my expectations. The air conditioning works pretty well, which helps for having a good night! The staff is available and helpful!
The pool was exceptionally empty so I did not have the chance to try it. The hostel is situated in a region a bit far from the city center where tourists usually stays, so prices are generally a bit higher than elsewhere in the city. However you can find buses to go into town, or you can easily take other local transports.

The host is very nice and the hostel has a great location. We got a 4 person room with single beds perfect for 4 people.
We had issues with the aircondition but they got it fixed asap.
The water didn’t work most of the time in the room. The air condition was very old and was not well functioning. The breakfast was a piece of white toast and a little scramble egg. And you had to wait for it every morning cause the dada had to buy it every morning. We waited 1.5-2 hours to check in even though we arrived around 3-4 pm.

The place was quite amazing! The best thing about it was the location. I was able to take a walk to Coco Beach without an issue.
The hosts were great. Very attentive. The place was clean and comfortable. There’s a lot of space to be alone if you need to.
The only challenge was a long term guest who was quite territorial and a bit nosy but it wasn’t enough to ruin my experience.

I love the place and the host is very welcoming. Martha the lady who helps to take care of the place is the best. I have not left still here.Plus the area Masaki is the best place and the swimming pool tops everything.

Beautiful house and pool, nice area, amazing and helpful staff. Was good to socialize too. Ask Kebe for the local restaurant nearby.
Would be nice to have a locker in the dorms to store away belongings so that it’s not all lying on the floor

It is a very nice place close to the beaches and close to the city. They are working hard to make it even better. Also, great wifi so perfect place for digital nomads. Would recommend staying here.
Not a bad thing but maybe it could be cool to paint the name of the hostel on the outside walls!
