Great location, historic inn on large property. Very nice breakfast of homemade butter pecan waffle with bacon.
Only a couple of minor things — No ice was available after front desk closed at 6pm. No hair dryer in my room.

Breakfast was a cut above most hotels. The pastries were very good, entrees original and freshly-made, and service quick.
Not a thing. Everything was just rightz

It was very peaceful and quiet. The room was beautiful, and the facilities overall were clean and comfortable.
The beach access is private. However, it's across the beach road. The online write-up did not make that clear. Additionally, the stairs to the beach were not well maintained, steep, and covered in sand. It was almost impossible to climb the stairs and carry my items needed for the beach.

A delicious prepared entree as well as abundant continental delights
Not enough time to stay longer

Great Location, Excellent and super friendly staff.
Facilities are a bit old, though considering it is a historical structure it is not so bad. We had everything we needed. Just don't expect anything luxurious or overly fancy.

It was a good location for the beach and local restaurants and bars. The breakfast was a nice addition to the start of my day. I enjoyed having the social hour even though I didn’t really interact with many people.
I would have preferred a more comfortable chair to sit in in my room and because I was on the 3rd floor I felt like using the chairs on the other levels was taking away from those people who’s rooms were there.

Great breakfasts every morning with hot and cold offerings. The social hour every day offered wine and a good selection of food pairings to go with the wine. The atmosphere was laid back and a refreshing break from the traditional big box facilities. Staff was awesome!
Stay was great but we had to change rooms 2 days into our stay due to a booking mix up.

The place had a lot of character and the Staff were very pleasant and helpful. You could tell they love what they do.

Housekeeping totally suspended during CoVid seems a bit lame

Good location to go north or south exploring the banks. Only a short walk across the street to the beach. Delicious breakfast.
Cramped shower stall, but it is an old historic inn.

It was our first time travelling to Nags Head. We contacted the property prior to arrival regarding our booking. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to try to accommodate our room requests. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were spacious and clean (a definite plus after many hours of travel time)! There was also a desk in each of our rooms which was helpful for our daughter who needed to complete some remote schoolwork. A delicious breakfast was included with our stay and we appreciated the attention to scheduling that the property took to ensure guest safety. Each party was assigned a specific dining time to minimize capacity. During breakfast a staff member even took the time to answer our questions about the property and its interesting and rich history. We mentioned that we had to check out very early the next day and would miss breakfast and we were given homemade muffins for our trip. A kind gesture!
The grounds were beautiful with hammocks, bikes, interesting sculptures and gardens and it was a short walk from the back grounds of the building to the beach. We wish we could have stayed longer and our family would return to this property in the future as it was a great location in Nags Head that checked all the boxes for us-clean, comfortable, near the beach and a family friendly location.
There isn't much we didn't like. Our bathrooms both had pedestal sinks which made it a little difficult to do hair and makeup for an event we were headed to. The office is closed in the evening unlike a traditional chain hotel. However, the staff can be contacted in the event of an emergency.

This place is phenomenal. I adored the vintage vibe and beautifully maintained grounds. I love that the rooms have small kitchenettes, the bikes and ample seating throughout the property that really let you enjoy the sun. Literally everything was gorgeous and only a stones throw to the beach.
My one concern was the bedding. The bed wasn’t too bad but the pillows were so hard that I woke up with a cramp in my neck. The pillows were just not comfortable.

I loved the beach access path that I used every morning to watch the sunrise from the beach. It was an amazing experience and will miss doing that after my trip. I enjoyed the daily breakfast and social hour treats and wine; the staff were very friendly and my room was very comfortable and I had a very relaxing, deep sleep each night (except for the last night of my stay due to the family next to my room #1). Perhaps the hotel should consider booking families with small children on the first floor but not next to a solo traveler such as me who was trying to get away for rest, relaxation, restoration and peaceful sleep. But overall, I loved staying at First Colony and plan to return on my next trip to the OBX.
The last night of my trip, the family next door were very noisy and loud after 9:30 pm when I was trying to get in my evening meditation on my last night at this amazing place. The family were screaming and yelling, banging things against the wall, their child screaming and crying. They finally stopped right before 11 p.m.
People are so rude and inconsiderate of other travelers who are on vacation and trying to have a peaceful night, peace from their day to day lives. People who can not control their children and respect the noise rules should stay home or be charged additional fees for the inconvenience of others.
