With 54% of the trips booked, spontaneous travelers are making last-minute itineraries and finding plenty of inventory to do so. Whereas 19% of the trips booked, planners are getting their ideal destination organized and finding the perfect rental for them without needing to stress about accommodations later.

The pandemic instituted social distancing as a mindset, and data from trips booked on VacationRenter showed how this filtered into vacation planning. Small group sizes for vacations were most common with 47% booking trips for themselves, a nuclear family, or a duo of couples. Whereas, larger groups trended up as the pandemic regulations loosened but were still not as common, parties of 8 or more booked 15% of the accommodations in the last year on VacationRenter.
