About this condo rental
Pono Kai Resort is located on oceanfront/beachfront property. Our 1 Bedroom Ocean View condo has a fully equipped kitchen, 1 bedroom and 1 full bathroom. The bedroom has a Queen size bed. There is also a pull out sleeper sofa in the living room, fully stocked with linens, towels, kitchen utensils, and appliances. We manage several condos at Pono Kai and guarantee unit size and view, not specific building or floor. The resort is located in the historic town of Kapaa, Kauai. You can catch the sunrise in the morning over the Pacific Ocean or even see whales during migrating season. The resort is within walking distance of restaurants, boutiques, shopping and grocery stores. The bathroom is furnished with starter soap, shampoo and conditioner, along with a hair dryer. There is an iron and ironing board within the unit as well. The Pono Kai Resort has many amenities on site. Tennis, basketball, exercise room, shuffle board, horse shoes, mini golf, croquet court, board games, just to name a few. You can rent bicycles next door and we are located within 5 minutes from water activities such as; swimming, canoeing, kayaking, surfing, etc... There are BBQ's located throughout the resort and coin laundry facilities located within each building. The Pono Kai is a great resort where you can truly relax and enjoy all that the Garden island of Kauai has to offer. We have stayed at the Pono Kai for many years. It is our only go-to place. Old but very well maintained. Located in Old Town Kapaa. Walk to shops and restaurants. Right on the famous bicycle path. Can’t go wrong.

Pono Kai is great. The central location in Kapaa works for us. .Our unit F105 still needs some updating but is very live able for the long term. N0t much sun on the lanai in Jan, Feb and most of March but the pool and beach are steps away.

Everything was perfect except for the popcorn ceiling that kept flaking down into our food/drinks - we vacuumed often. It was very musty in the area we stayed but we’ve been here at this resort before and never had this problem. We did report the issue at the front desk and they said they would take care of it so hopefully all is good. This is one of our favorite places to stay since it is such a beautiful scenery and quiet area. The people are always very helpful and nice and accommodating here.

Nice suite with all the amenities we needed for 11 day stay. Well kept, nice beds, pillows and would definitely stay again. Only complaint (not with owner) is price listed on VRBO was in Can $, price charged in US $ which amounted to quite a bit more on final bill.

Perfect property for enjoying sunrises, beaches, long walks, small shops, without driving at all. Of course, we did drive to the various beautiful hikes and adventures. But would not be necessary, perfect rental property for a baby to walk out on grass and enjoy the chickens and nature.so relaxing . Saw beautiful sunrises from our living room and porch.

Everything from booking to the front desk to housekeeping to the unit itself was perfect. We are looking forward to going back! We love walking the long paved beach path, watching the sunrise, walking to local eateries, shave ice, and shopping. Communication with the facility is top notch. Everyone was very positive and kind. (Well, except the pool towel people - they must've had lots stolen and staff has to guard them. We felt they thought we would be future thieves as well. We decided to buy and bring our own quick-dry towels, to not have to deal with the towel sign-out desk. If you are an OWNER (diff colored wrist band), you can take one of the pool towels anywhere you want. If you are RENTing a unit, they guard their towels like mama hens, and you must turn them in before leaving pool area. Lol. Whatever.) Highly recommend Pono Kai.

Having coffee or dinner on the balcony overlooking the ocean was amazing! Staff was friendly and attentive with any requests and lovely outdoor grounds too. My only reason for not giving the property 5stars was the inside was “tired”…with a well worn sofa (the arm rest was stitched with needle and thread) and kitchen needing a remodel. All and all, I wouldn’t mind staying here again as we felt that it was fairly priced with great views and friendly people.

Beautiful view and location. We were disappointed in the lack of kitchen items compared to all of the other condos we've rented. Meaning there is usually some spices, zip lock bags ect that previous guests had bought and left. Nothing in this condo. I did have very small ants that I killed on a daily bases. I didn't mark the condo down for it because I lived in Hawaii and am aware that this happens. We did make sure there was zero crumbs and food items on the counter but they visited anyway. The drawers in the dresser would not stay closed either, very frustrating. This is the first condo we've rented without laundry facilities in the condo. That we really didn't like but the owner/renter did advise us prior that the laundry facilities were not in the condo.

Relaxing Stay
This is the second time we have stayed at the Pono Kai in Kapaa. We returned for the beautiful ocean view, access to the walking trail, generous housekeeping, and the wonderful guest unit where we could store our luggage after check out and shower before our 11:30 p.m. flight back to the mainland. We loved the pool and hot tub. Although the sofa is not comfortable, it worked for me with the help of a couple of extra pillows.

This condo had everything we needed. Both the manager and the front desk were responsive and helpful. Great ocean view, and very close to the ocean front walkway, so that you can walk to dinner or coffee. We would stay here again!

Very convenient!
We stayed in unit F304, with a direct oceanfront view. The unit was nice and clean. Everything we needed for the kitchen and bathrooms were available, with towel service every other day. It was very windy and rainy on the east side of the island when we came, but the kids enjoyed the pool on the property. Plenty of other amenities were available to enjoy (tennis court, ping pong tables, croquet court, gym, sauna). Perfect location to walk to downtown Kapa’a and enjoy a stroll to shop. Our family of 4 had a great time. Would definitely recommend!

Great location
This was partial ocean view fro the deck, I would say it’s a garden view. This unit needs to be updated. The facility is in a great location, they keep it super groomed.

Very Nice
We have been coming to Kauai for years. Pono Kai is always clean and friendly. Our unit, F305, was clean, with a nice ocean view.

Would hesitate to rent this room.
The musty smell was terrible. Air conditioner was a nice feature but room smelled to bad to enjoy the space. Communication with Steve was unsatisfactory. Someone else did finally answer once. We had to leave the island early so only got to use the room for three days out of the two weeks we had planned. Pots, pans, cook ware was too limited to really fix a meal. Room was clean and neat.

A well-appointed resort
The Pono Kai has everything you need and is very centrally located on the island and in Kapaa. Staff are excellent and there are lots of activities to do on the resort itself. The bike/running path is great too!

Great location and views
We took the top floor with ocean view. There was a small lawn and a running track in front of us and had a terrific view of the ocean. There were few other buildings with closer to ocean but doesn’t matter I was more than happy with my stay. It’s close to many eateries and a great spot to cover both north and west part of the island.

What a view
This condo was neat and clean. Very good service for cleaning and towel replacement. I wish I could stay longer. The view from the balcony was amazing.

Overall the room was very nice.
We were on the second floor and the noise from above was pretty loud at all the wrong times. Just the act of walking up there was noisy at our level. The room was well appointed with all the things you might need. The location is great and handy to town and traveling the island, since the condo is in the center of the island highway system. Nice view of the ocean and open green area below, very short walk to the beach. Not much interaction with the staff, but at check-in they were courteous and helpful. The (roosters) will not allow you to sleep in very much.

We enjoyed our stay at the Pono Kauai. The space was roomy and clean. There was an ocean view from the balcony where we watched the sunrise every morning. A bike/walking trail was just at the edge of the property. Bike rentals, restaurants, and other services were within walking distance which made it very nice.

We really enjoyed our stay. The facilities are first rate and the view of the Pacific from our rental was spectacular. Finally, the personnel were friendly and professional in every way. If we come back to Kapaa, we will certainly book the Pono Kai. This was an extraordinary value. It exceeded our expectations!

Beautiful spot. Convenient location.
Grounds are well maintained, the kitchen had all the dishes and utensils we needed for cooking. Service was very good. Enjoyed grilling, watching the sunrise each morning over the ocean, the walking path and easy access to the shops in the town,

Great experience
This condo was just what we wanted: ground level view and short walk to the beach... the bike path was awesome the staff was very responsive although we only had one very minor repair it was fixed within an hour.
Truly this condo exceeded our expectations... thanks for a great experience we would do it again.
