About this house rental

Located in Bearsville, this lovely house for $253 per night is a great option for your next trip. The Woodstock House is distinctive and gracious. The Woodstock house is ideally located within walking distance to the Bear Café, Little Bear restaurant, Cub Market, and the Bearsville Theater. It is on a “cared for” 2.5 acres of land, set back from the main road, on a private lane leading to the house driveway where there is parking. Surrounded by woodland and a cultivated back yard, this country house is ideal, it is very private and only 2 miles to the Village Green, the center of Woodstock. In the spring this unique house is covered with wisteria and in the fall burning red leaves cover huge Japanese maple trees in the yard, they are truly estate déjà vu. The house is 1800sq feet, just right for 6 people as well as 2 people. There are 3 bedrooms all with queen beds and two full bath rooms. There is a gated white fence where guests enter the back of the property. At the house there is an entrance room where you can bring your things just before the kitchen. The kitchen has lots of country cabinets, a stove, large refrigerator, Bella coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, Bella toaster, all the cookware and dinner service you will ever want. A glass table with chairs on one end of the kitchen is surrounded by a built in curved glass window that lets in light and air. Behind louver doors are some storage areas and a washer and dryer. Food can be easily taken outside from the kitchen to the stone patio table with chairs and umbrella. This is a good place to grill also. From the kitchen through Dutch doors it opens into the dining area. There is a beautifully raised country ceiling defining the room and a long dining table that was a great gift from Gael Green a New Yorker food critic, it’s a perfect fit. There is also a large stone fireplace with corner benches, Modern wrought iron lighting hangs over the country table, six comfortable high backed chairs privately designed with an inspired dining room mural using matching colors. The large open floor plan allows a view from the dinning room to the living room. There is a small sitting room before the downstairs full bathroom that has a tub, shower and plenty of towels. Near the bathroom are the bedrooms, they are private with queen beds and windows that open to the backyard. They also have flat screen TVs with lots of cedar lined closets. There is a fun mix of the 60’s dominating the furnishings in the house, basically the ambience is eclectic. All rooms flow into the living room with wide pine planking flooring throughout the house. A huge hotel like wrought iron lighting fixture hangs from the 18 ft living room cathedral ceiling. Next to the collection cabinets the hour glass staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom. This acoustically designed room is a comfortable gathering place for all with a 64 inch flat screen TV that has cable with Netflix and a Bluetooth / dock stereo for your tunes. The sitting room has an opening to the living room and this is sometimes used as a serving window to pass food and drinks to people when there are parties. On the wall that leads up to the second story master bedroom there is an original 8 ft. narrow mural painted with the colors of the living room. At the end of the hall is the bathroom, it is stocked with towels. The large light and airy master bedroom has lots of windows, is away from the rest of the house and is a private quiet get away. There is a large walk in closet, a flat screen TV with cable, and also a record player with a vintage record collection that you can take for a spin. Cheerful isn’t the word for it, it’s a place you could bring a cup of coffee from the kitchen and hang out. COTTAGE This property has a charming wonderful one large room cottage with lots of windows. Huge Rhododendrons hug the windows and are fantastically beautiful when in bloom the cottage sits back from the main house and is reached from the parking area following a stone path. The living area has comfortable furniture along with table and chairs near the kitchen area. A queen bed is in a back section of the room with narrow ceiling high windows above. Although small, the bathroom has a roomy size stall shower. For an extra cost the cottage creates a convenient additional space if you need room for more people.

Not knowing anything about Woodstock or the surrounding area, it was serendipitous that I discovered the Imagine Woodstock House. To the west you are minutes away from the Catskills, to the east is the Hudson River Valley and miles of parks and historical homes. Anything and everything you might want to explore is no more than an hour away, with the exception of Sleepy Hollow and it is a quick drive down the freeway. There is a lovely restaurant in Bearsville along with a wonderful tiny grocery store, the Cub Market, which can take care of most of your specialty culinary needs and sells great sandwiches for picnics. Sunfrost Farms is just down the road between Bearsville and Woodstock and is every cooks dream. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to cook in. Formerly owned by a composer from the 60’s who renovated, redesigned, lifted and expanded the original cottage; the current owner—who utilizes the house only as a rental—has filled it with musical memorabilia: old electric guitars, radios, phonographs and records. CD players and large flat screen TV’s are in two bedrooms, while the living area contains one that goes on forever. There is adequate air conditioning for the summer both downstairs and in the upstairs bedroom, and heat for the winter; being there during the month of September in 2016 we needed both, and were always comfortable. The original tiny cottage has the most wonderful floors—wide wooden planks, softly gleaming; an ancient rock fireplace stained black with soot is at the end of the dining room. The doors into the house and leading from the dining room into the kitchen and a downstairs bedroom are white washed—like the horizontal planked walls—and Dutch style. I love the antique upholstered chairs in the dining room and the table they surround…not necessarily a trestle style, but similar in its length and width…and charm and age. Outside is bucolic peace. I love the backyard with its towering trees on all four sides and the old weathered table with room for six, which is great place to have a restorative happy hour before dinner after a day of exploring. We spent four fun filled weeks at the Imagine Woodstock Stock House and I do acknowledge that the house is old, and has an old house's quirks. They are well worth adapting to. Mike Young was always responsive if we had a slight problem or question and extremely accommodating to all of our needs.

This property is a nice space and it's a shame it is not maintained better. On first arrival, even with the windows already open the place had a very musty smell giving it an un-lived and dirty feeling. There was also hair in the upstairs bathroom which didn't add to the ambience and left an impression that the place could be better cleaned. It's the last thing one wants to find after a long drive. There was also quite a significant amount of spider webs in and outside the windows as well as inside the rooms which obviously have not been removed in quite some time. There was also a dead mouse (completely dried up) visible inside the air conditioner vent upstairs. We've rented and seen many different properties in Woodstock and while the house is a good size and nice space, the maintenance and cleanliness makes it not a good experience for the money.

The house is beautifully located off the main road and close to shops. The back yard is stunning and inviting. The house is well equipped ( coffee makers, French press, hair dryer, toaster, microwave etc). However, when we first walked in, the stagnant musky air almost sent me back home. Spider webs and dust everywhere. There are no curtains on the upstairs bedroom ( so you will be up at 6 am in the summer) or AC. So the bedroom was hot and stuffy. The refrigerator leaked water on a daily basis. Overall is a nice house that needs some TLC
