Salty Dog cottage was perfect for our needs for thanksgiving overflow. Everyone had a comfortable bed, the home was clean and well appointed. The owner was extremely accommodating with check -in and out. Thank you for a great experience!

This property exceeded our expectations in so many ways. to name a few:
- house is very spacious with plenty of room inside and out for people to have their own space. We had 9 in there for a week and didn't feel like we were bumping into each other
- yard is a great size with large deck and patio table for 10 along with several lounge chairs
- sun and shade available in the yard, depending on your preference
- the outdoor shower came in handy and had everything! hot and cold water, extended hose, mirror, bench, hooks, soap holder. It was a treat to use!
- if you have movie watchers or rainy days, there were dozens of dvd's to watch on either of two decent sized tvs
- all bedrooms were large and comfortable
- individual air conditioners in EVERY bedroom plus kitchen and basement was a dream! Indoor temperature is always a contentious issue in our family trips and that was alleviated, in the bedrooms anyway, which was most important to us.
When we arrived, there were some minor cleaning issues but they were quickly resolved by the owners.
Speaking of which, the owners are HIGHLY responsive in communications. They answered our numerous questions in a timely manner and to our satisfaction each time.
My family definitely recommends this vacation home!

We rented this space for our moms retirement.
Complaint 1: upon arrival to the house, the floors countertops and bathrooms did not appear to be cleaned, so we spent a bit cleaning those up.
Complaint 2: the ad leads to to believe you have full access to the cove and the water, but the neighbors are sure to make you aware that it's their property and you're just visitors. There are instructions on the fridge that says you are to stay to the right if you're on the cove. However, when we stayed to the right, the neighbor came down and told us we couldn't hang out down there. We could only walk or kayak and that's it.
Complaint 3: When we arrived, there were 3 piles of dog waste left in the yard. I cleaned that up because we had dogs there, and little kids, and i didn't want them running through it. Once we arrived back home after the trip, the owners messaged me to tell me there were " dozens of piles" of dog waste in the yard from us, which is simply not the case. We picked up everything and in my opinion, the house was in better condition than it was when we found it. The owner demanded we pay an additional $100 because of the dog waste.
Complaint 4: We ran out of paper towels, toilet paper and propane on day 1. If you are going to rent a house out to 10 ppl, you should make sure to have enough toiletries to last them a week.
Other than that, we had a great time in the cape, just not at this location. We will not be back.

I loved that the house has plenty of space. We had 6 people and all had their own rooms. I really like that it had 2 living rooms. Bringing our dog was a huge bonus. It was a quiet neighborhood and near beaches. Owners are very responsive. My complaints are toilet paper is not restocked and there really is no place to sit by the water. There is a path that goes to the water and you can swim or kayak, but you can’t lay out towels or set up chairs, as one of the neighbors astutely pointed out to us.

This was our family's second time to spend the holiday weekend in Orleans. The property has plenty of room and is very well located to restaurants, shopping and sights on the Outer Cape. We're likely to be back next Oct!

A very nice house with a little land in a quiet spot. There are heat-pumps throughout except in the downstairs bedrooms that have traditional window AC. Access to the cove is very limited. Plan to drive everywhere. The road from house to town is quite narrow so bike-riding is tricky. The closest town beach is on the east (open Atlantic) and is a 10-15 min drive.

The house is big and on a good location. Communication is easy. Had a good time here.

Our first time family vacation after Covid. We enjoyed it so much. We enjoyed the BIG KITCKEN our meeting place, talking and sharing meals. The bedrooms up stair, had king size bed which Mom, 9yrs girl and toddle 2yrs boy had plenty of room to sleep sound. Nice bathroom up there with a shower. Queen size bedroom plenty of room for Mom to rest in or 9yrs girl. The main floor living room was our second together room. One of other adult is in a wheelchair got to enjoyed seeing everyone. The main floor bedroom had double size bed which share FULL bathroom. Very nice. 2 more room had 2 twin size beds plenty of room. The down stair was family play room with Big TV along with a table to work on puzzle or games on. The shed had a big kid pool which they loved it. Found the path to the Cove what a BRIGHT BEAUTIFUL WATER WITH BOATS IN IT. Not for swimming in. We went for dinner picnic at SKAKET BEACH LOW TIDE. It was GREAT . Beautiful sun set at that beach. Morning time is high tide gentle water soft sand. We used the handicap beach chair there. Only thing is the chair doesn't have a seat belt. Good thing we had one. No head rest on beach chair just to let you know. GREAT BEACH DAY ENJOYED THE WARM WATER AND SOFT SAND DIG OUR FEET IN. What a BIG outside shower. THIS IS A WONDERFUL PLACE. PLUS fire pit and family size dinner table for us. Quiet neighborhood too. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR HOME RENTAL.

Excellent space. Great provisions.

Great location with nearby beaches
Close proximity to town of Orleans with Skakat beach nearby for awesome sunsets. Nausea beach had the sunrise which we saw most mornings. Outdoor living area was very good at the house with al fresco dining and fire pit. Awesome outdoor shower. The path to the pond is overgrown and we were very hesitant to walk thru it so didn't see much of that. Big house with almost two separate wings and then space to come together at the end of the day.

Cape House
Awesome house that’s a lot bigger than it looks. Lots of beds and couches, big yard, short walk to the water for a sunset view

My friends and I decided to rent the house to getaway from our lives for the week. The house was in a nice location for travel to other parts of the outer Cape. There were plenty of stores around the area if you were to forget anything. The house was nice and clean when we arrived. The house has an eclectic layout but it adds to the charm. There were plenty of things left in the house to make it easier to move in and stay for the week.
There was enough room that the 6 of us didn't feel like we were on top of each other. We made extensive use of the fire pit which was a great thing to have. The access to the cove was a bit overgrown and we had a few ticks after using the path. Also if you or anyone you travel with snores make sure to pack ear plugs as the walls don't block a lot of sound.
I definitely recommend the house if you're looking for a base of operations in the outer part of Cape Cod.

Excellent Cape Cod
We all had a great time! The location in Orleans is perfect! About equidistant between Sandwich and Provincetown, so we could plan many things and be a half hour away.
The beaches in Orleans are some of the best at the Cape, as well!
The house itself was much larger than I had been expecting. Plenty of room and amenities. Great job on the house!

A great space for a large family group. Personal A/C's in many of the rooms. Deck and patio were very useful. Lots of pots, pans, dishes and silverware. Overall, a great stay and would love to do it again.

Location was delightful with opportunities to also be recreational. Tucked away but easy to get to and close to nice restaurants and activities. The house itself was comfortable, lots of room and amusingly decorated. Perfect for large family gathering including nice outdoor space!

This property was the perfect spot to gather family for our daughter's wedding at Nauset Beach. The bedrooms are separated between two wings in the house making for some privacy among the family groups. The spacious family room was the perfect place for our daughter to prepare for her big day and the outdoor space is wonderful. The only thing that I wish I had figured out sooner is that there is a really great woodland walking path not far from the property. The Ice House and Ruben's Pond Conservation area is up Tonset Road and is a great place to walk a dog. Check out the Orleans Conservation Trust website for that and other great hikes around the area.
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We had a fantastic time and made some really great family memories!

A wonderful holiday weekend stay!
The property was just as advertised! While somewhat secreted, we were close to a variety of restaurants, Rt 6 to access the upper Cape, the Cape Cod rail trail and the town cove. In particular, we enjoyed the downstairs family room which accommodated all nine of us. The large eat-in kitchen was helpful.

The location and property are exactly as advertised. There was plenty of space for our group of 8, and the owners were super responsive to our inquiries. Only downside was that there was an odd, mothball-like smell to the place, but would stay again despite that!

We rented this house for a family of 6 with one infant. There was plenty of room for all of us. The front of the house has a living room with 3 bedrooms and bath that we were able to close the French doors to the rest of the house and not hear a thing. We lovingly called this the "West Wing". This was perfect for my son, his wife and grand daughter. The kitchen is roomy and had all the necessities. The creme de la creme was the downstairs living room. That is where we spent most of our time while indoors. The only thing that would have helped tremendously would have been an air conditioner. It gets very warm down there. Outside the table area was perfect for dinners as well sitting by the fire pit. Many members of my family preferred to shower outdoors including the dogs! It is a short walk to the cove where we paddle boarded, had our morning coffee or watched the sunset. Would definitely recommend this place!

Each person in our group, upon arrival, remarked about how spacious this home is, especially compared to other Cape Cod homes we have stayed at in the past. The large living room, open kitchen and lower level den provide lots of options for gathering or spreading out. Also, the large, mostly flat, shady yard provided nice space for lawn games in and out of the sun. The fire pit got a lot of use, too.
The neighborhood is remarkably quiet and dark at night; very restful. We heard wildlife sounds nearly every night. The property is on a short, dead end, dirt road, so there is almost no traffic passing by. The home is very conveniently situated within 5 minutes drive from the Nauset Beach gate, a grocery, a CVS, downtown Orleans and Route 6, the main artery of Cape Cod. There is Town conservation land with about 2 miles of walking trails on Tonset Road within easy walking distance from the property. We also took a drive (about 5 miles) up Rte. 6 to the Fort Hill area within the National Seashore and found some nice walking trails and some wheelchair accessible boardwalk trails.
The access from the Salty Dog property to Town Cove is by a narrow path which leads to the easterly shore, too narrow and too far (~ 400 ft) to carry kayaks, we concluded. It's a great place to watch sunsets. Fishing left something to be desired due to vegetation along the shore. One of our party did see a seal in the Cove one evening. That was memorable. The Cove is a rather large body of water perhaps a mile long and a half mile wide, resembling a lake but connected to the sea. We kayaked on it from a town boat launch on Old County Road (off Rte. 6, just across the Cove from the property) and had a great time.
Communications with the owners could not have been better. Always got prompt replies.
People familiar with the Cape know that it is a sandbar surrounded by ocean and is, therefore, from May to October, humid except when it is damp. There is a slight mustiness in the lower level den of the Salty Dog. Some of our group were bothered, others were not. A couple of them spend several entire days working remotely down there without complaint.
There is twice-weekly trash collection on-site which is very helpful. There are loads of dishes, cooking utensils, flatware, tableware, etc.. Also, plenty of tables and chairs, inside and out. All were in good condition.
We very much enjoyed our time at the Salty Dog and would stay there again without question.
