Luxurious Mountain Home
About this house rental
The Willow Cottage is currently one of only two beautiful completed cottages in this development. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook: The Cottages at Cold Mountain and @coldmountainvacations Just take a look at the pictures...the cottage was designed by renowned architect Keith Summerour and the idea was to take the very finest elements of luxury homebuilding and scale them down to an enjoyable, sensible size of 2300 feet. In the indoors, we wanted guests to be able to enjoy the very best materials, craftsmanship and design--understated elegance. The exterior features locally harvested stone, cedar siding, and unbelievable Ludowici clay tile roofing. Guests will feel at once that they are stepping back in time to an era when craftsmanship and materials still mattered, and stepping forward into the future with a home heated & cooled with underground geothermal wells. The kitchen, dining and living areas are fully integrated with an all-stone terrace complete with wood burning fireplace and antique timber-framed porch. The kitchen features plaster walls, beautiful views, a Wolf range, two Subzero refrigerators and beautiful soapstone countertops and custom cabinets. The Willow Cottage is currently one of two completed cottages located within the private, gated community. The cottage is located in the heart of the meadow area of Cold Mountain and is within 100 feet of a historic dairy barn (no animals today) and a catfish pond bordered by willow trees. A fun activity lot for soccer, volleyball or chasing fireflies is 10 feet away. An apple orchard, small vineyard and raspberry and blackberry patches line the drive to the cottage. Great for the morning's cereal! You will need to carefully consider the town that is close by. If you haven't discovered Waynesville, do yourself a favor and check it out. Recently, the L.A. Times called Waynesville 'the perfect blend of mountain charm and sophistication.' Art galleries, tailgate markets, incredible wine store (Wineseller) just 20 minutes away. Want to take advantage of something in Asheville--35 minutes away. We love Asheville too, but the truth is it is a city, which is what we believe a lot of people are seeking to escape. Stay in the country, use Waynesville as your anchor town and cherry-pick the best of Asheville's offerings. Now, you are 35 minutes away from Asheville and 20 minutes from Waynesville, but that gives you the payoff of a spectacularly beautiful, riverfront setting. Plus, you are in the direction of something...Pisgah National Forest begins just 5 minutes south of the property and leads you into some of the most beautiful and iconic places in the Eastern US--Sliding Rock, Mount Pisgah Inn, Looking Glass Falls and many more are within 20 minutes for a truly unlimited amount of recreational potential. Finally, Springdale Golf Club (18 holes) is directly across the street for any family members keep a swing sharp. We built and furnished the Willow Cottage because we were generally disappointed with the quality of both the homes and properties available for vacation rental. Thank you for taking a moment to consider us. We look forward to hearing from you. We regret that the covenants of Cold Mountain do not permit weddings. We were looking for a place to spend some time with our son and his wife from Colorado. He requested a wood burning fireplace. The house was beautiful and perfect for our needs - visiting, playing games and enjoying each other's company. The only problem we had was when we lost water one evening and didn't get it back until the next day around noon. After buying gallons of water for necessities, we continued to visit, play games and enjoy the fire. We had a great time and we were compensated for that loss of water.

Perfect long weekend. Willow Cottage is an amazing - and unique - property. Everyone in our family loved it.

This was our third stay at Willow Cottage with our 3 kids. We love this house and this property! The French country style house is elegant, comfortable and clean. We cooked s’mores on the outside fireplace, went tubing in the river (bring your own tubes) and caught fish in the pond. The kids loved exploring the river on the property. We hiked up the mountain just behind the house. Highly recommend!

It’s beautiful and we have stayed in both houses for 3 years in a row! The house next door switched owners and it seems they will try to nickel and dime you for things that should be covered in cleaning fees. This property is amazing and so is ownership and property manager. Beware of renting house next door!!!!!

Lovely, relaxing stay. We had excellent communication with Carly, the property caretaker. She was very responsive and helped us get settled in after a later than hoped for arrival with quick dinner options nearby. The property had everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing few days - we played with the yard toys, went on walks, and enjoyed just being with each other. Definitely recommend!

Our family enjoyed another stay at Willow Cottage. We first stayed at this property 2 years ago and always enjoy our stay in this beautiful setting. We always enjoy seeing wildlife (a pair of bunnies this trip!) and enjoying the sound of frogs and nature in the evenings. The grounds of the property offers a lot for explorers young and old including a stream, fishing pond and overlook. The antiques blend beautifully with the modern farmhouse style of the interior. The only complaint from this trip would be that the internet/tv was out for the entire trip. Perhaps that was my cue to take a break from work 😊 We can’t wait to return in to the Willow Cottage in the future!

We fell in love with this cabin from the time we booked it based on the photos and description. When we arrived the location and surrounding were as described if not better. When we entered the cabin we loved it. It was charming and cozy but as we walked around we realized it was extremely dusty, bugs everywhere, most of the furniture was outdated or falling apart, one of the toilets did not work, stains on the sheets and covers and the worse part the Heat was not working properly. We contacted the manager, Mary Ellen and she sent us Tim and Kendra who during the entire stay were very nice and helpful. They got us heathers and blankets and did their best to clean the dust. The temperature dropped very low during our stay and since the heater did not work well we froze and were very uncomfortable. We had to go get wood for the fireplace to help warm the cabin as the one that was available was dumped and would not stay on and it helped a little bit but we froze. The worse part during our stay beside freezing was during the checkout. Tim, came to our Cabin at 10am to get the keys and clean the place as other guests were coming. We had all our stuff ready to go by 10:15am as we were suppose to checkout by 10am. When I stepped outside I did not find Tim and the lockbox was not working o we sta and waited. Later around 10:45 I walked around and found Tim behind the barn and gave him the key, also explained we were waiting for him. That’s when I started getting messages from Mary Ellen the proprety manager who was very rude why we checkout out late. I explained to her yet she was very unprofessional and between quite said “ we are done discussing this”. I was expecting a much more accommodating proprety manager in this situation considering we were very uncomfortable in the cabin. In summary while I was disjointed with the Manager and the freezing condition of the Cabin and overall upkeep I do want to thank Tim for all his help during our stay.

Willow Cottage is the most stunningly beautiful mountain home we’ve rented over the years. From the gorgeous, well-appointed kitchen, to the towering hydrangeas, to the lovely European decor and antiques, everything was perfection. The grounds were truly breathtaking. We enjoyed the pretty picturesque pond, wildflowers, river and mountain views and wildlife. We even saw turkeys and a family of bears on a nearby road. Wonderful experience!!! Can’t say enough about this special place.

We had a great time at Willow Cottage. The house Is well maintained and well stocked. The property is beautiful with lots of space for kids to run… and areas for them to ride bikes and scooters. My kids loved playing in the river. Didn’t get to swim since the flood changed the river a bit and there is still debris to clean up. That didn’t stop us from exploring and enjoying the river. We even brought a bluegrass band in to play up on the hill. It was awesome!! Great communication and attentiveness from the property managers. They took very good care of us!

What a lovely home! Three couples had a great time walking, fires, in the evening, and the ambience. It was a little farther from things than expected but it didn’t detract from our stay. Getting in the front door was a bit of a challenge but, of course, we made it inside. Would recommend for families and couples.

Our experience at this property was mixed. We arrived to dirty dishes, dirty towels, and debris in the yard. We also had difficulty connecting to the internet with the provided password, and ran out of hot water twice during our stay. We reported these items to the property manager and we were reimbursed the amount of our cleaning fee. We later learned there was a significant flood in the area, roughly 7 months prior to our stay, which explained the debris in both the yard and the surrounding area. At one time there was a pavilion and trout pond on the property, both highlighted in the books at the property and referenced in the content online. We were informed after booking that the trout pond was under construction. Fishing poles are provided, but I'm not sure they would be effective if you actually caught something. We ended up making an extra trip to town and purchasing our own. The trip times for us were closer 25 min into Waynesville and 45 into Asheville. There may be spots in those towns that are quicker to arrive at, but sharing our experience for future renters. Being at the property was restful and you could easily keep yourself occupied there. It's a beautiful home, showing some wear from age, use, and the flood. After looking at the older pictures, and seeing the reminisce of the pavilion, we would have loved to have visited the property five years ago during the summer months.

Holidays in the mountains
The house, property and surrounding countryside are phenomenal. We hiked the property, fished in the ponds and river (rods/gear provided!), cooked holiday meals in a wonderful kitchen and enjoyed fires in the outdoor fireplace on the covered patio. Everything worked and was in wonderful shape, as well.
The property is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and a lot of hiking trails, many with beautiful rivers and waterfalls along them. There’s also a large flock of turkeys on the property. Waynesville and Canton a close enough for quick “I forgot the milk!” trips without being so close that you don’t feel like you’re in the country.
We’ll definitely look at this place again next time we’re headed to the mountains!
