Lake Sutherland! Explore Lake Sutherland, Olympic National Park & Port Angeles
About this cabin rental
Situated in Lake Sutherland, this attractive cabin for $581 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. The 'Falls' at Lake Sutherland has been in our family since 1972 when my parents bought a small cabin, nestled at the foot of a mountain on a crystal clear lake as an investment and a fun summer time activity for their five children. My husband and I purchased the cabin when they were ready to sell to keep it in the family. It has been expanded, remodeled and boasts lovely cottage interiors to match the unparalleled exterior beauty of Lake Sutherland, its views, and all that it and the surrounding areas have to offer. Maple hardwood floors, tiled counter tops and wood wrapped windows frame the lake views while darling, cushy furnishings envelope you while you gaze. Cottage quilts cover the beds and thoughtful signs throughout the cabin, remind you that life is indeed 'good!!' Sit on the deck in one of our famous 'swinging chairs' and read, bird watch, or just doze to the sounds of the lake and the waterfalls. Roast a hotdog in the open community fire pit or do a perfect swan dive off of the diving board. Take the canoe out for a leisurely paddle, kayak or fish from the dock. Play a game, craft a puzzle, or challenge your partner to a game of cards!! We upgraded our internet service this year (2022) so you will still be "connected" if you wish! The entire lake can be busy on weekends from early July through mid August (the prime summer season) so if tranquility is your desire, book a midweek or pre/post summer season holiday! *FOUR NIGHT MINIMUM MAY 1-SEPT 10, 2022. (TWO NIGHT MINIMUM OFF SEASON) *SIX PERSON MAXIMUM AT ANY TIME ON THE PROPERTY AT ANY TIME *NO PETS *NO SMOKING INSIDE OR OUT *MOTORIZED WATERCRAFT OF GUESTS NOT PERMITTED *WE LOVE AND RESPECT THE CABIN AND LAKE AND HOPE YOU DO TOO! Our family hosted a wedding on Lake Sutherland and overflow family members stayed at this sweet house. It was very comfortable fit our needs perfectly.

The home was perfect and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Upon arrival, the home was meticulous and comforting. The beauty of the area is of course stunning. It’s in a really good spot to kickstart your Olympic park adventures as well. I highly recommend this home.

This cabin has been recently remodeled and is cute, spotless, cozy and comfortable. Owners have stocked the kitchen and bathroom with all the essentials plus more. Owners respond quickly to messages and questions. The view of the lake and walk-out deck are worth the rental frees. Only negative is that lake front area and dock are shared with several other families. During our stay one family had many guests all day every day and between all the adults, kids and teens, commandeered water access and enjoyment.

Amazing experience
We had a lovely stay at this beautiful cabin. We travel frequently and prefer renting properties rather than staying in hotels when possible. This property is the best one we have ever rented. It is very well appointed and had everything we could possibly need and more. I really appreciated the hosts attention to detail. It was obvious this property is well taken care of and designed to be comfortable and functional. We felt at home immediately. The lake and surrounding area is gorgeous and although there are many cabins close by it was very quiet and peaceful. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Cozy Cottage on Spectacular Lake
The cottage was sparkling clean upon our arrival. We would spend at this home again in a heart beat. It was exactly as advertised. The location on the lake was fantastic. We hiked Hurricane Ridge and Marymount Falls; both hikes are highly recommended and very easy. The lake is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed our peaceful time there immensely. Communication with Julie was fantastic.

Great on the lake property, quiet, clean, fully equipped
The property in on Lake Sutherland. We like the quiet morning kayaking and couldn’t be happier. The location is central to all main hikes. House is fully equipped, clean and in a quiet but friendly community and is very accurately described. Julie was a fantastic host. She shared some very good suggestions and her timely information saved our day. She’s literally a text or phone away and very prompt.

I was a little worried about staying in a rental during the Covid-19 pandemic with my 10 year old, but all of my fears were allayed as soon as we walked into the cabin. In addition to having everything my son and I could want for fun outdoors (kayaks, fishing poles, great dock, zero entry beach area, etc.) there was plenty of soap, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes. Everything is clean and tidy in the cabin, and I felt comfortable and safe the entire time. I will definitely be reserving the cabin again in 2022 and can't wait! I highly recommend this cabin, unless you're trying to reserve on the week that I want. :)

The small house was very clean and neatly apportioned for two adults and two additional guests (e.g. children). There is a bedroom with a queen bed and a second bedroom with two bunks. Overall the unit is approximately 700 square feet of indoors space and a spacious deck with another 200 square feet of space.
Lake Sutherland lays 25 yards before you with a gorgeous view. The unit comes with two kayaks, a paddleboat and one canoe. Oars and lifejackets are provided. In the morning, the placid lake is visited by hummingbirds, geese and eagles. In the evening you can roast marshmellos at the firepit.
The house is well stocked with cleaning products, linens, and a standing washer dryer. The kitchen has almost anything a traveling chef could use--with a full sink, refrigerator and stove/oven. Given the summer heat, we were surprised to see that there is but one small fan in the entire house. It gets quite hot indoors due to the skylights and baking sun. The living room has a tiny television.
The neighboring houses are but five feet on either side. If planning to host, this could be a problem. The owners stipulate that no more than six persons may be on property at any given time. The lake front is very quiet.
There are hiking trails very near the house leading to mountain lakes and various inland heights. The closest trail, called B&W, is 100 yards from the property and is a super steep climb into lush rainforest. Highly recommended but it is a private trail for which you will need formal permission. [there’s a sign at the trail head with details]
The unit does not have internet access. The listing does not clearly state this. Mobile service in the area is very spotty. In order to jump onto the internet, a guest must walk approximately 50 yards west to the owners’ other unit. Thus, if you are planning to actively work while at your home away from home, you will suffer this inconvenience. The owners are aware of this issue. It seems the installation of a second line (or a repeater) would be an easy fix.
Overall, this is a quite relaxing place in an idyllic setting; however we found the price to be fairly steep for the value. We’ve stayed in multiple units around the world and have also rented our own properties. At this price point one can reasonably expect a greater deal of luxury, space, privacy, and communication technology.

The cottage was immaculate and the location superb. Right on beautiful Lake Sutherland with use of kayaks and a canoe. Kids were able to swim right from the house. Location allowed for easy access to explore all of Olympic National Park. Cottage was well-stocked with everything we needed and the location close to Granny's Cafe meant yummy breakfast and ice cream throughout the stay.

The cabin was lovely!! Right on the lake and so comfortable! Julie has thought of so many nice amenities that make the stay extremely easy and comfortable. Our weekend ended up being quite rainy and cold (unexpected) so didn’t take full advantage of the lake itself, but we so enjoyed being cozy and relaxing in such a beautiful place. We hope to visit again and with more time!

Well appointed, great location
This cabin is fantastic. It's well appointed, and has everything my family could want during our vacation. Canoe, kayaks, a peddle boat, fishing poles, a monster-sized dock with spring board...it was the perfect vacation for my two boys and myself. We can't wait to visit again next year and definitely will book the same house!

Lake Life!
We so enjoyed our stay on Lake Sutherland. Lake life is amazing! Julie’s property is perfection. We had everything we needed in her home, as well as great lake amenities. We kayaked and canoed, swam and dove off the docks. It was so much easier to visit with family friends across the lake by boating there, and much closer than driving! The family atmosphere on the lake was just what we needed for our summer vacation.

Our favorite spot!
We live in FL and this was our third visit to this spot on the lake over the last 5 years. Totally worth the trek and it never disappoints! The owners are beyond gracious, neighbors are wonderful and we are counting the days until we return again. My girls (age 10 and 14) love their bunk room and having a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer makes life at the lake that much easier! For the family, you cannot run out of things to do between sightseeing the area, the canoe/kayaks and huge box of games and DVDs! Almost scared to tell everyone how much we love it in fear it'll be booked up when we are ready to return! LOL We love this place!

Amazing place!
Our family of 4 stayed here as a home base to travel around and explore the peninsula. We went mid week so it was quiet and peaceful and the lake is so beautiful! We saw a bald eagle and fell asleep to the sound of the waterfall every night. Julie was a great host and was very responsive. I can’t wait to come back.

Great getaway!
The lake house was absolutely perfect for our vacation. We could easily travel to all the northern peninsula adventures. The house was inviting and had everything we needed. We wish we had more time to spend and make more use of the lake!

Cozy and clean, a few “heads up” notes
Cozy cottage, spotlessly clean, with a nice kitchen including a spice rack and coffee! Lots of paddle water craft for our use, including kayak and canoe. Plenty of seating indoors and out including swinging chairs! Super location for exploring this side of the Olympic National Park and also the seashore and Port Angeles.
We were here mid week in mid September, and the area was super quiet with no one around. Clearly the atmosphere would be very different in summer and on weekends. Lots of water craft (motorized and non), and cottages are set very close together.
A couple of notes... queen bed is super soft (uncomfortable for us) and pillows are pretty thick. There are no bedside stands. There is a dishwasher but no dish drainer for drying out the occasional dish you might wash by hand.
The description needs to be updated to show there is No Internet (of course you can use your cell phone data...). Also take note of the different rates depending on season.
The instructions for departure that we received by email ahead of time differed from what was in the little book here at the cottage... email said start wash of bedding and towels, whereas on-site book said to wash, dry, and re-make the beds. So if you are planning an early departure this is a bit confusing and could change your timing.
(Those are FYI comments which I always appreciate seeing in reviews... we loved our stay!)

Wonderful retreat
Staying at The Falls at Lake Sutherland was a great choice for exploring Olympic National Park. This cute cabin is about one mile off Hwy 101 so it is quick to get to the highway and a midway point for exploring the western side of the park. The cabin is well stocked and cared for, very clean and has a gorgeous view. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe, jumping off the diving board and just relaxing on the deck. Julie, the host, was very gracious and available for any of our cabin or tourist questions. We definitely would stay there again and hope to go back as there is a lot to see and do in the area.

Pure bliss
What you see is what you get. The house is very clean and well stocked with the little things you always seem to forget. It was perfect for a girls weekend! Hiking is plentiful, the use of the kayaks was truly appreciated and wonderful on the smooth lake, and the view provided true bliss at the end of the day. Julie is a pleasure as a host and made everything comfortable for us.

Well kept, clean property with all we needed in our home away from home
Julie stopped by shortly after we arrived to make sure that we had everything that we needed. We spent a lovely two nights, slept well on comfortable beds and appreciated every moment of sitting on the deck enjoying the beautiful view while my husband and son loved using the kayaks. We certainly hope to come back someday

September Escape
Great, quiet getaway trip for my husband and I. The cabin is right on the lake and has everything a couple could need and lots of ways to explore the lake (paddle boat, canoe, and kayaks). Lovely place to stay and a great central spot for Olympic Peninsula adventures.

The perfect Anniversary cabin
My husband and I rented this wonderful perfect cabin on Lake Sutherland for two nights and loved it! Julie, the owner has the place decorated beautifully and she even left us fresh cut flowers and a bottle of Champagne for our Anniversary! Perfect.

Perfect!
My family (2 adults, 2 kids age 4 and 7) absolutely loved staying here! The highlights:
The cabin: Very spacious, comfortable, clean, and stocked with everything you could need.
The lake: It's rare to find a lake surrounded by mountains yet warm enough to swim. Absolutely gorgeous and so much fun.
The location: perfectly situated for day trips around the Olympics - we got to the Hoh, Sol Duc, and Second Beach very easily, Lake Sutherland is the perfect starting point for anywhere you want to explore.
The hosts: Julie was so welcoming and helpful, you really couldn't ask for a better host.
Truly one of the best VRBO rentals we've ever had. We're already planning our trip back!

Perfect Peaceful Flawless Hidden Gem!
Julie has a secret here on Lake Sutherland and I'm willing to share it with the world! Our family of 3 had a perfect vacation with this cottage as our home, so many Olympic NP places to visit close by! She has everything you need and is so helpful and kind, and we can't wait to get back here one day! Until then we'll be dreaming about our view and morning visits from Harley!

We had the best time...loved it!
We had the best family vacation ever! Waking up in the mornings, while our babies slept, watching the sun rise over the lake while sipping coffee in the swinging chairs was a magical way to start the day! We kayaked, swam and played day in and day out. The cabin is adorable, spotless and Julie was a joy to work with. We had s'mores by the fire and then unwound by listening to the waterfall as the days came to a close. All we can say is, we will be back!

Perfect lakeside cabin!
We had the most wonderful vacation on Lake Sutherland with our 3 kids (ages 5 and under), staying at Julie's lovely cabin. The cabin was clean, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed to feel right at home. It's also in a great location on the lake with a large grass lawn that sloped down to the water giving the kids lots of space to run and play.
So many wonderful memories were made in the week we were there. The kids had many firsts including kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, and jumping off a diving board, all things they've never done before and will never forget! Early mornings and late evenings were spent relaxing on the porch swing chairs taking in the beauty of the lake.
Thank you Julie for your warm hospitality during our stay, it was hard to leave this place and we hope to visit again in the future.
