Private setting surrounded by mountain laurels and rhododendrons. The home features open living area with vaulted ceilings, stone fireplace with gas logs and wood floors throughout. Almost all wood interior for a true mountain experience. The kitchen features sandstone counter tops with upscale appliances. A large screened porch is an added feature as a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The single car garage is connected to the house by a breezeway. Only 6 minute walk to downtown. Level lot with 1 step entry to house. Large Screen Porch to enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Hardwood floors throughout appointed with quality area rugs. Central Air and gas heat. Wifi Cable TV - 40" LED SmartTV Fire Pit with Adirondack chairs Gas Grill Washer/Dryer Living Room features wood paneled, cathedral ceiling. The stone fireplace offers the convenience of gas logs. Dining area seats 6 and features all wood wall covering and a cathedral ceiling. Kitchen has custom sandstone countertops and vaulted ceiling. Kitchen is well stocked with new servings and utensils. Master suite features a quality king bed. Master bath includes travertine marble floors and shower, walk-in shower with frameless door and, vanity. Bedroom #2 features 2 twins. All beddings are quality mattresses, new or near new. Bathroom #2 has wood floors and features tub/shower combo and vanity. Washer/Dryer is off master bedroom. Garage with remote is accessible by covered breezeway.

Enjoyed my 4 days at Mountain Laurel Cottage. While close, even walking distance to town, it is in a quiet neighborhood that is nice to walk around. The screened in porch had comfortable furniture and good lighting. The shower worked well as did all the other appliances. House rules and helps were clearly notated. The fridge is under counter but ample. I so appreciated the quiet at the end of a busy day.

The house is clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed - it felt like home. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch and the wooded views from the windows. Also, the walk to town is indeed just minutes, plus there is a nearby trail you can take that ends in the downtown area if you want a longer, more scenic walk and some light exercise. We will definitely return to this property!

Best Value in Highlands!
We stayed at the cottage during a family wedding weekend in the Highlands. It was super cute and clean, and had everything we needed. Our host was very clear and communicative and we really appreciated that. Definitely in the price range there's not anything else better. We'd highly recommend a stay here!

Great getaway
Loved our weekend in Highlands. The house was very comfortable and we enjoyed the fireplace. It was too cool for the screened in porch but that looked inviting! Very convenient to downtown and all the great hiking. Would stay here again!

The cabin is very clean and well maintained. It is within walking distance of downtown Highlands but secluded enough to be quiet. Interaction with the owner to answer a few questions was easy and he was pleasant to talk with. Overall this is a great get away and delivered as promised

Beautiful Mountain Cottage, in a surreal setting - the owners were wonderful to deal with.
The Cottage and location were just as published, and the location was close to town yet we felt seperated and private, so we could relax and enjoy our get away.

Cozy Cottage in the Woods!
What an incredible find!! First, the cottage was so well furnished and supplied ,plus having the fireplace, all elements combined for a great stay! The cottage has a beautiful, well furnished screen porch which due to weather, we were not able to enjoy, but the porch along with the entire property was neat and clean!! We also appreciated the enclosed garage with extra refrigerator/freezer! We walked to town to shop so the location is another asset!! The extras were the metal roof which is wonderful during two rainy nights and the strolling visit by a baby and mama black bears!! Needless to say, we remained safe inside the cottage!! My husband and I have enjoyed staying with VRBO owners for over 15 years and we always read the feedbacks. I hope this will satisfy any questions regarding your stay in the cottage of Bill and Teresa!!! We thank them for thinking of everything, even an umbrella!!!

Great Location
We enjoyed our week stay at this comfortable, cozy cabin. If felt secluded but was an easy walk into town. We really enjoyed the nicely furnished large screen porch. And the gas fireplace was great to have after it turned cooler. The owner has thoughtfully provided everything you could possibly need from paper products to nightlights. Good communication with owner and easy check-in. Highly recommended.

Cozy cottage in a great location!
This property was perfect for our stay in Highlands. The location is an easy walk to town. The cottage is immaculately cared for and well furnished. The kingsize bed is very comfortable with quality linens and the towels are soft and fluffy. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and basic pantry items to make cooking at home convenient. My husband and I especially enjoyed eating dinner on the screened deck in the fresh mountain air. The owner is very conscientious about making sure everything is right and provides good information. Definitely recommend it.

Wonderful Cottage
My mom and I spent a long weekend in this lovely cottage and could not have been happier with it. It was so clean and was equipped with anything you could possibly need. The screened porch is very nice and relaxing and the furniture is comfortable. The cottage is in a neighborhood but has a lot of privacy. The flowers outside and in the window box just added to the charm. I would love to come back here with my husband soon!

Even better than photos -- everything is clean, well done. The details beyond the photos are great too -- host support, quality bed linens & towels, comfortable mattress, information, paper products, even had laundry detergent, etc. We had everything we needed and wanted. We even extended our stay. Way better than hotel. Would definitely book again.
Screen porch is fabulous - we spent most of our time there. Ceiling fans in bedrooms. Gas fireplace in living room.
Close to pretty much everything in Highlands. Very pleased with our choice. Good for relaxing or active vacations.

Perfect Cottage in Beautiful Highlands, NC
Our first visit to Highlands was all the more enjoyable because of our charming and wonderfully appointed cottage. Although we were just a short walk into town we felt as though we were staying on a large private property. The cottage is within minutes of many of the featured falls, hikes and vistas as well as the easy access points for fly fishing. We recommend this 5-star rental without any hesitations.

Terrific Small Cottage
My wife and I recently rented this perfectly appointed small cottage. The premises are immaculate, well furnished, beautifully appointed, extremely comfortable, and only a short 10 minute walk to Highlands. Not only all of the above but the owner, Bill, stands by 24/7 to answer questions, make a problem go away, and is concerned about your experience. Absolutely the best property we ever rented and will do it again!

We have been to Highlands several times and wanted a place close to town. Mountain Laurel Cottage was the perfect find. Property was clean and well furnished with plenty of room for 2 couples if needed. Very private and yet could walk to town center in 15 minutes. We will stay here again on our next visit.

Quiet and peaceful
We loved the porch and spent almost as much time there as in the house. Quiet peaceful and easy to get to, no scary little road, and so close to town. A place we will definitely come back to. A definite 5 stars for this adorable little home. LM

Exceptionally Maintained & Updated
We spent a week in Highlands visiting the area. I chose this cottage because of it's location being able to walk downtown. Directions to get to the cottage and gaining access was easy. Bill the owner called shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was alright. Inside the owner had a very detailed manual with every helpful hint you needed to make your stay easy. I wish we would have had better weather to enjoy the beautiful screen porch. But with the cooler weather the gas fireplace was a plus, just using a remote to turn on. So many cottages are wood burning. Loved the neighborhood and enjoyed walking the street several times. The cottage is very private however. Bed was comfortable with nice sheets. Skylights in living area added extra light. A couple notes for future guest. Refrigerator in kitchen is under the counter. A full size refrigerator with freezer is in the garage. Bring your own soap for the shower/bathtub as none was provided. Liquid soap was on the sink counters. Necessary spices are provided along with tin foil, baggies and other kitchen essentials. Laundry soap also provided. This is a cottage with adequate space, but bathrooms are small and not any place for toiletry items in the master bath, but a small shelf in the 2nd bathroom Beautiful shower in Master Bath & tile surround in the second bath. I would also add that the owners have completely updated the exterior with metal roof. Actually enjoyed hearing the rain on the roof. Lots of brochures in cottage on restaurants, places to visit, maps of the area, hiking trails.

"Great mountain cottage"
All the comforts of home only in an awesome wooded surrounding! The cottage was exactly as described by the owner, and complete instructions were provided on everything in the cottage. Loved the screened in poach! The customer service by the owner was incredible, as we had a slight change of plans and was accommodated graciously. Everything one could possibly need was in the cottage, in fact I will try to adapt some his ideas into
my own VRBO rental.
These restaurants are a must; Old Edwards Hotel for fine dining, "Wild Tymes" for lunch, "Ugly Dog Pub" for your sports bar and "Buck's Coffee Cafe" to start your early morning shopping!
"Mountain Laurel" is a must do even if you do not have a bucket list!

Relaxing time in a charming cottage
My wife an I came to Highlands from Florida so that we could celebrate her birthday and our wedding anniversary. Somehow I was fortunate enough to come across Bill's cottage, located steps from downtown Highlands. From the outset, Bill reached out and imparted all the information we would need while staying in his home.
On the day of our arrival, since we would be arriving late in the evening, Bill offered to remotely unlock the front door, so that we wouldn't be fumbling around trying to find our way in while it was dark outside.
The cottage is quaint, wood everywhere, the floors (appear original), the walls, the cathedral ceilings, the cabinets, the dining room table. Although small, the cottage is efficiently set up; family room and kitchen are large enough, the second bedroom quite small, the master bedroom sized just right. We loved the gas fireplace. A large screened room off the family room and dining area is nicely furnished and gave us many opportunities to inhale that clean, crisp mountain air.
For those of you who want shelter for you car, there is a detached garage. One final thought-- this place was so clean! Absolutely spotless. We love to visit Highlands once or twice a year, and hope we get to spend at least some of that time in Bill's beautiful cottage!
