What a wonderful home on the quiet side of the island! We stayed at the end of September and the weather was perfect all week, we enjoyed the hikes nearby as well as Echo Lake Beach. It's about 20 minutes into Bar Harbor, and Southwest Harbor had plenty of amenities as well. Before we checked in, Matthew called to ask if we had any questions and go over a few points about the house, and we were able to connect with him during our stay when needed. The road to the house is not paved, but we had an SUV so that wasn't an issue. The house is very secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The gas heating stove wasn't working, but there were small heaters, and the windows let in a lot of sun, so after a bit of cold in the morning, the house warmed up very nicely (we also brought robes and slippers). The kitchen was well stocked for making meals. There is no TV which wasn't an issue for us, we connected to the wifi on our computers, and brought a bluetooth speaker for music. The biggest advantage of this home is the dock and location on the water, we rented kayaks and saw seals and bald eagles, it was so peaceful. Even just enjoying coffee in the morning or a drink around sunset sitting on the dock or deck was amazing, the other house on the property was empty and we enjoyed walking along the beach there at low tide as well. The view from the bunk house deck was equally nice. Plenty of space for a friends or family getaway, we had our Great Dane with us as well. We look forward to another stay!

This house is tucked back in the woods in quiet solitude. The limited views of Somes Sound was just enough so that when I was sitting on the deck in the early morning, enjoying my coffee, watching the water and the boats go by in the distance, I knew I was in a place that I could easily call home. Peaceful, charming, and relaxing are the best words for me to describe this idyllic resting place in the woods. I would definitely come back here again. I loved it here.

We absolutely loved staying at this home. Every component was so thoughtful, and it was easy to tell how much the owners cared about the property and the local area. The kitchen was well-stocked, as were the (very clean!) bedrooms and bathrooms. There were plenty of activities nearby, as Echo Lake is right around the corner and Southwest Harbor is down the road. We really enjoyed fishing off the dock in the mornings and evenings and brought our kayak to paddle around Somes Sound. All in all an amazing place to enjoy everything that Mount Desert Island has to offer — thank you!

Great property, great location. Quiet and peaceful, after a big day of hiking, biking or kayaking it was wonderful to come back to this beautiful property and relax. Matt was great, promptly answered all of our questions and was onsite to help us get settled in. I would definitely come back to this home again.

We had a wonderful time at this property in Maine. The property was beautiful, clean and very well located. We were minutes away from Acadia Nat'l Park attractions and Bar Harbor. Everything you could want was a short drive away. The views of Somes Sound from the property were gorgeous. We saw loons, ospreys and porpoises. Fishing off the dock was great. Our hosts were very attentive to all of our needs. They were a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend this property if you want a relaxing and very enjoyable vacation.

“Tree Tops” provided just the retreat our family needed. The location was beautiful with the house and cabin tucked into the forest just above Somes Sound. A clearly-marked gravel pathway from the driveway took you down to a dock. While our family did not sail or kayak, we enjoyed strolling down to the dock to take in unobstructed views of Somes Sound. The house was perfect for our family. My husband and I enjoyed the master bedroom with two walls of large windows allowing you to wake surrounded by nature. The layout of the house, with bedrooms on the opposite sides of the house, and doors directly from each bedroom outside, gave our daughter and her partner privacy and allowed them to take their dog in and out without disturbing us. And our son and his partner enjoyed the adventure (and privacy) of staying in the cabin. While the great room was a comfortable gathering space for all, we spent much of our time on the deck of the house relaxing, listening to the birds, and taking in the view. We did not do too much cooking, but note the kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, serving dishes and an array of dried spices. The location was outstanding. We were minutes from trailheads to hike Acadia and other mountains along Somes Sound, as well as minutes from Echo Lake Beach. You can reach the core attractions on Acadia’s Park Loop Road in less than a half hour. Finally, our host reached out prior to our arrival to solicit questions and be sure we’d be prepared to navigate the gravel path to the property and he answered questions promptly during our stay. Our experience at “Tree Tops” exceeded our expecations.

Our group was 4 people including two children (9 & 7), but it could accommodate more with the bunkhouse. The property is amazing. You can't really see or hear any other houses, so it is very quiet and peaceful. We loved being on the water and watching all the boats go by and the lobster boats checking their traps. Having the dock was great because we rented a canoe for the week and made good use of it. We appreciated being on the quiet side of the island because it was less crowded, but we were still close to hiking, restaurants, Bar Harbor, etc. I highly recommend the property.

We had a great time at this property and were able to experience all that the area has to offer and with out leaving the property. The house itself was extremely comfortable, clean and relaxing - a real vacation from the every day to spend with family. The dock was a short walk away, allowing for either kayaking, paddle-boarding or just a nice view of the Sound. The property owners were very nice to interact with and paid close attention to details. Five Star rating all around.

Our adult daughter enjoyed the privacy of the bunkhouse. We also hiked, biked, and enjoyed the breathtaking sights easily accessible around Mt Desert, Schoodic, and Deer Isle. Jackie and Matt were the ultimate in hosts. Communication was timely and helpful leading up to the trip, and we met them briefly upon arrival. Highly recommend Treetops. What an amazing cabin ..... not only in one of the prettiest places on earth, the cabin itself and bunkhouse were just wonderful. After the intensity of the last few months, it was so nice to spend a totally unplugged week here. Matt has been so responsive and informative leading up to our stay and after our first hike (Acadia Mountain) we were reminded why this is one of our favorite places on earth. The cabin and bunkhouse were like our very own tree houses where we could be one with our surroundings. We enjoyed watching the variety of boats pass by and being on this side of the island. Our teenage daughter and friend loved the bunkhouse and swimming off the dock (water was cold but an experience they liked). We hiked everyday and the afternoons were filled with trips to Bar Harbor, Echo lake, sunset cruises, homemade ice cream or thunderhole and evening on the rocks of the ocean path. We found new favorite hikes (south bubble and sand beach/great head) and revisited old favorites (Acadia, Beech Mountain/fire station and Beech Cliffs and Wonder trail at low tide after Lobster at Thurstons). The cabin was just perfect and so well done. The kitchen and space, out of a magazine and so very comfy. A few tips...arrive during daylight to get a feel for the gravel road and if you like to sleep in, bring an eye mask Would highly recommend and thank you! This was just what I needed to recharge and renew

We did it all. Swam, tubed, saw seals and dolphins right off the dock. Hiked and dinner by boat. Loved the house and location. We can’t wait to come back

Wonderful rustic setting with convenient access to Acadia and Southwest Harbor. We enjoyed the house tremendously (5 adults) and loved water views from the house and the access to dock on Somes Sound. Waking up everyday to beautiful sunrises with fresh air and nature all around was such a highlight of the trip. Hope to return to this property again in the future.

We really loved everything about our stay. The house was clean and comfortable. We loved easily getting to all locations on the Island and kayaking from the shared dock. Recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in the house and bunkhouse for one week. There were 4 adults, 3 teenage boys and 2 small dogs. The boys loved having the bunkhouse all to themselves. They also enjoyed hanging out in the loft of the mainhouse. We loved the quiet area and the views were amazing. Falling asleep with the windows open and waking up to the sounds of nature was so refreshing. The dock was hard to access but the boys loved swimming even in the cold water! We loved the rustic feel of the house and how well everyone fit in the common areas. The lack of air conditioning in the middle of the day was a little rough being mid-July but we just tried to be out and about during the heat of the day. The temps in the morning and evening were fantastic. We also loved using the deck every morning and afternoon!! Some recommendations would be: have the cleaning company so a better job getting up the dog hair on the area rugs and bathmats, some more/nicer deck furniture, stronger WiFi. Overall we loved our stay and would stay at this house again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!!!
