We had so much fun here! Thank you for sharing your clean, cozy cottage. We loved that the beach was a 10 minute walk (or short drive with gear and kids), a best bakery was a 5 minute walk away, we were close to so many fun things and a great screened-in porch at the house. We had a great family vacation. We can’t wait to come back!

The house is immaculate with very clear directions regarding the house.
I saw deer and babies every morning right across the street.
They have everything you need regarding pots, pans, storage.
Just a great place

My group of 2 adults and 2 young kids had a wonderful stay. The cottage was very comfortable, clean, and well-stocked, with space for everyone to stretch out and relax and a very nice screened in porch to enjoy the nice weather. The location is fantastic, with the bakery and the beach in walking distance. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

This cottage is very charming and wonderfully clean. It's a great value for how close you are to Lake Michigan. It's within walking distance to Cherry Beach and Harbert Beach and only a 5 minute drive to Warren Dunes State Park. There is a long walking/biking trail going down Red Arrow Highway that can easily lead you to bakeries, restaurants, and a park. The kitchen stocked with any gadgets you may need. The master bathroom is absolutely gorgeous. Checking in and out is very easy. The property management is incredibly responsive. We already are anticipating booking next year!

Lovely, clean home in a quiet, wooded neighborhood. This cottage has every necessity and comfort. Furniture and beds are comfortable, sheets are soft. Home is stocked with everything a family needs. We were a group of 4 adults and two small children. We especially enjoyed the screened porch and firepit with smore ingredients provided by the hosts. Very close to multiple beaches. Bring your own beach towels and fire-starter logs (wood is on-site, but needs a little help to get going) and you will have a great time.

Overall we liked the house and the location UNTIL we headed home and learned the owner decided to keep a large portion of our deposit for no reason. We followed every house rule and our family treated the house and property as if it was our own. We followed the check-in and check-out checklist and even washed all the towels to give the cleaners a head start.
Their claim was that we had a dog on the property that a neighbor saw, and that the housekeeper found dog hair and pine needles in the house requiring extra cleaning. Here’s the thing- we had NO DOG at any point in our visit! We traveled over 9 hours and spent most of our time at the beach so bringing a pet along would have been unmanageable. We also had no visitors. It is absolutely impossible for anyone to have seen a dog with us! Other families walked through the neighborhood headed to the beach and some had dogs with them, but I never recall any group lingering in the yard while we were there.
We were also never allowed to see any “proof” of a dog, dog hair, or the extra cleaning bill they were supposedly charged- just withheld our deposit without any recourse. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some pine needles in the house as the property is covered in pine trees and we had 3 young children along. However, we were already paying for professional cleaning and assure you that we left the home at an appropriate level of cleanliness when we left. Further, if dog hair was in the home it could have been from previous renters as we were somewhat grossed out that there was hair clogging the bathtub drain and we also found an earring on the carpet while staying. At any point during our stay if the owners were concerned we had a dog they could have contacted us or come over to check. They only communicated this by keeping our deposit after we were already driving home- causing stress and ruining our return trip.
We attempted to contact VRBO twice to resolve this, and they kept sending our case to a “higher unit.” We waited weeks and were never contacted back. Since we live so far away taking this to small claims court is not an option. Please beware.

This was a perfect place to catch up with old friends. Just as pictured and clean! We spent most of our time on the porch & beach and look forward to our next visit!

We had a great experience at the cottage! It is such a cute little place, surrounded by gorgeous hydrangeas, yet feels very spacious inside! Hosts took great care to think of everything! From a fully stocked kitchen with every tool or appliance you could need to games galore. Lots of helpful labels and discreet signs around to make things easier. Master Bathroom was shockingly awesome! Pictures don't do it justice with four skylights, gorgeous light fixtures and huge shower with rain head, body spray jets and hand held sprayer; perfect for soothing away aches after a long hike or day on the water. Can't say enough good things about this place! I highly recommend it!

Beautiful home and beach!
Our family greatly enjoyed our stay at the McGrail's 3 Shades of Gray cottage in Harbert! Lovely, cozy and updated home had everything we wanted: comfortable beds, updated kitchen and bathrooms, and lots of cozy comforts that make a house a home. We used the game table every night, and the firepit was a nice bonus for the s'mores that the owners kindly provided! Nice, quiet neighborhood, with a longer walk than expected to the beach (we drove, since we had rafts and cooler), but we absolutely loved the private beach with nice sand and no crowds. We kind of hoped for a little more "town", but we took a rainy day and drove to St. Joseph for that, which was lots of fun (We ate at Tosi's for lunch...highly recommend). All in all, wonderful time on Lake MI shore! We would definitely come back and hope we can someday! Thanks Jack and Susan for sharing your lovely home!

Dream Home Away From Home
I can't overstate what a lovely stay we had at this home. The master bathroom is one of the nicest bathrooms I've ever experienced. The home was light-filled. The kitchen was well-stocked. The streaming television available was perfect. I even played their piano and it was a refreshing change from everything else. The hosts even included a bag with s'more fixin's to prepare over the fire pit in the back yard! Although we had to drive to the beach instead of walking (beaches in Michigan have taken a beating and are narrower and more crowded because of that), the local beach was still a great choice. I'm so grateful we were able to stay in this relaxing, quiet, comfortable home.

Discovery of Lake Michigan
This was our first trip to visit to the lake after a recent move from the west coast. Our 5 year old daughter had a fantastic time on the lake. Our Warren Dunes hikes were magnificent. The proximity of the place we stayed to the the Dunes and to Cherry beach was awesome. Our host responded to my query immediately. The place itself is VERY well equipped, immaculate and downright charming. The description read that we were 2000 feet from Harbert beach but access to that beach was closed (and it looks like this has been closed for a while) -- somewhat disappointing! On the whole a great experience. Thank you for making our first discovery of the great lakes so memorable.

Relaxing escape!
This house was the perfect getaway! It was in the perfect location; hidden away with access to beaches and the quietness of nature but also so close to the main drag of Warren dunes and new buffalo. We will definitely stay again.

Lovely home!
We felt from the moment we walked in that we had hit the jack pot. This was our first time renting a home for vacation, due to Covid. It was exceptionally clean and fresh. The beds were very comfortable, and the master bath is gorgeous. The screened porch was probably the biggest bonus of the entire stay, but the living room has amazing seating as well. 6 of us sat out there every evening, chatting, playing games, etc. We even set up our coffee bar out there for early morning coffee! We visited 3 different beaches in 3 days, the farthest being 20 min away. You will have no regrets in this home or dealing with these owners. We had an accidental issue and they could not have been nicer about it, over the top fair with us.

Great Harbert home
We spent a wonderful long weekend at this property with our two teenage children. The house is great with truly every item you could ever need, and there is ample space (our son slept on the pull-out couch). It was extremely clean and well-kept, and the owners were very quick to respond to questions. We spent a lot of time on the screened-in porch reading and watching the hummingbirds, especially when we had a rainy day. Although Harbert and Cherry beaches are unfortunately closed this summer, there are plenty of other beaches within short driving distance that we went to. Harbert itself is charming, with easy access to bigger towns off of Red Arrow. Overall, a top-notch rental.

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. It’s got the charming feel of an older home, but updates in all the best ways. It was nice being on a quiet, private street. We enjoyed sitting out back and admiring the beautiful landscaping while roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. We loved relaxing on the screened in porch before heading out to watch the sunset over the lake. Many of the beaches washed out, but we spent every day at Warren Dunes beach where there was plenty of parking and very nice restrooms. The owners were always quick to answer any questions I had about the area! It is very obvious how special this home is to them and how much they want their visitors to feel at home.

Great property for a quiet getaway. Really enjoyed the screened porch and fire pit in the back.
Finding the property was a little difficult in the dark initially. Outside wasn’t well lit for nighttime arrivals. Otherwise we had a great time. Property was clean with many different areas to hang out and relax. Beaches within Walking distance were closed but Warren Dunes was a short drive.

Couple of Blocks from Beach
This was a very well kept, clean and comfortable home! The amenities were plentiful, even including an iron and ironing board (which who needs that at the beach???). My 3 boys (7, 5 and 3) fit just perfectly in this 2 bedroom house with other sleeping accommodations. The boys loved exploring the backyard space which had tons of landscaping, grill, table and chairs and a fire pit. The beach was not walkable for my crew and all of our needs, but it was such short drive (.6 miles) that we visited plenty of times. There is a resident beach at the end of Harbert Road that is 66 feet wide. It's not huge, but it spacious enough for my family and all the others that were there. Cherry Beach is another option, just a little further down (~2 miles). It is 260 feet wide, so quite a bit larger, but it is also more public. The owners were very accessible and helped as needed. The only thing that I would have changed was to have spent more nights there!

Fantastic Place
I stay at a lot of VRBOs and this is probably the best place I've ever stayed. The location is great, the house was even nicer and more comfortable than the listing conveyed, and everything we needed was available in the house. The cabinets were fully stocked, all amenities were available, there were beach chairs, a blanket, umbrella, beach pass, etc that made things lovely for our beach vacation. A lot of care obviously went into it.
The hosts were fantastic and very responsive. Before and during the stay we received several messages about local places to visit, and they answered all of our silly questions about the area. This was very helpful to have for a state we have never been to.
The next time we are in Michigan we are definitely staying here again!

What a lovely & charming get-away!! Just what we were looking for!!
We had a wonderful stay in Harbert! Your home is lovely and had everything we needed for a perfect weekend away. From the well stocked pantry, and fully equipped kitchen, to the so-soft sheets on the comfy beds, to the amazing master bath with the gorgeous skylights, to the cozy screened in porch, we were wanting for nothing!!
We loved the easy and scenic walk to the lake, which provided a fun-filled beach and beautiful sunsets!!
Thank you for sharing your cottage with us. We absolutely loved it!!

Exactly as advertised.
We were here for a mid-week getaway and it was perfect for the 4 of us. The house is roomy and nicely decorated. Comfy beds are a great thing after a day at the beach, which is a short walk. We really like this area, plenty of things to do and places to eat! We set up a croquet course in the front yard and had a tournament. The welcome S'more tray was a really nice touch. I recommend Three Shades of Grey.
