Located in St. Croix, this charming house for $543 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. ***UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT with substantial updates as of December 2022: freshly painted; new decor including new living room set and updated patio furniture; new refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, electric tea kettle, toaster oven, kitchen utensils, glassware and more; new linens (including pillows, sheets, towels, comforters); new ceiling fans; new blinds in bedroom*** Inside, Sugar Bird Rest is decorated with colorful tropical fabrics and the artwork of local and Caribbean artists. Its fully appointed kitchen affords easy preparation of casual and formal meals. Outside Sugar Bird features immediate access to the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea, which lap gently onto the Carina Bay shoreline just 50 feet away from this beachfront villa. Snorkel to Carina Bay’s own barrier reef which comes all the way into the shoreline just west of the house. You have easy beach access to it, at just 600 yards west of Sugar Bird. Or just relax all day—but remember to watch for Dolphins inside the reef! Talk to the local fishermen who is mooring right next door allows you first choice of their fresh catch of Red Snapper, Lobsters, and other fresh local seafood. Recipe for Snapper—stuff and cover with chopped garlic and lemons, salt and pepper to taste, wrap in tin foil and put on grill for 3/4 hour at low heat. You may never want to leave the house once you arrive at Sugar Bird…but if you do, you can spend days exploring St. Croix’s historic towns and sites. You can shop in an array of exquisite local shops featuring the work of local artisans or duty-free items from around the globe. You can golf on one of the island’s two showcase 18-hole courses or its casual nine-hole course. The property was clean and spacious. The beach was nice. The house definitely needs some TLC. There was rust on light switch outlets from humidity as well as mold on the ceiling of one of the bedrooms. One of the outside outlets had caught fire before we checked in so we were unable to use one of the set of lights outside. We were notified by the manager of this after checking in. Our first night there we started to smell wires burning after adjusting the fan speed so we had to turn off the ceiling fans over the living room and small dining table. Sparks also shot out of one of the outlets in one of the bedrooms. Two of us got shocked when using one of the light switches. The location is great however we would not stay here again because of all of the electrical issues.

Property had beautiful views and spacious rooms. Property managere Cherene amd maintenance guy Garfield were really helpful and quick to response. There was an issue with rodents and reaches but i figured it comes with living so close to wafer and vegetation. Seaweed was covering the beach during our time of stay, which prevented us from swimming on the property but there are beautiful beaches close by we can go to amd enjoy.

Loved this l little jewel of a property. It’s right on the beach and I went to sleep every night with the sound of waves and a soft Caribbean breeze, which is what I bargained for. The snorkeling on Isaac Bay was great; we loved snorkeling on Cane Beach; and of course, the best was a day trip on a sailboat to Buck Island. Would love to come back and snorkel west of the Divi Resort Beach. Oh, swam with a big turtle off the beach on Protestant Cay. For those who don’t know, even though this is a US Territory, you drive on the left, which can be a bit of a mind bender at a five point corner.

This property is incredible to say the least! Cherene the manager was so helpful and personally escorted us to the house. The house is right on the ocean and is so beautiful. Very clean and well kept. We wished we would have booked two weeks! We will be back for sure!

We were told about seaweed and the rotten smell of it only a few days before our arrival. So no time to get a refund. When we arrived the place was in unlivable condition. Now Vrbo or the owner will not give our full refund. Never renting from Vrbo again. The house had mice poop in the window, the electricity kept going in and out, water pump broken, mold all over, the windows wouldn’t close. It was very unsafe. I have pictures of all of this. We had to leave the first night and pay thousands for another place to stay. Now we are out almost $3000 plus what we had to spend on another place to stay. DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!

This property is ALL about location. it has the most beautiful view of the Mediterranean only about 100 steps to the Sea . It is a very private sandy beach. some seaweed washed up daily but the water and swimming area are very nice and sandy. The covered porch that overlooks the sea is HUGE, I could spend all day and night on it and the view and sea breeze never gets old. The interior layout of the house was very spacious with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (says 3 bathrooms in listing). plenty of room to move about with the whole family. Also there is a washer and dryer onsite (this is nice because they only provide 8 towels) The homes itself is in need of a lot of repairs and updating. of the 2 bathrooms only one has hot water in the shower, both have hot water in the sink. The house is on a well pump and the pump turns off around 3-4 times a day which requires you to go outside, get down on your knees in the dirt and prime the pump. many of the electrical sockets are hanging out of the wall and shock you if you try to use them. The stove in the kitchen only has 1 working burner. (the front right), additionally this burner does not have temperature adjustment it only has HIGH and OFF. The sliding doors and screens do not slide well you have to pick the up to move them. and the screens are ripped in areas. The window blinds are falling off and need to be propped up. There is only one small TV in the living room , nothing in the bedrooms. The patio furniture if beyond disgusting it is extremely old, tattered, torn and dirty, both sides of the cushion to the stuffing!. Broken glass on the coffee table. needs a fresh coat of paint. In many areas it loots to have been started but not finished. With all of this said I would still go back again because of the location, but it sure would be nice if the owner fixed and replaced some of the items!!

Filthy, infested with bugs, centipedes, spiders, ants that cover the sand and leave very painful bites so there is no way to walk to the water. We wasted a week of our dream vacation. Everything else was full or we would have forfeited our funds without hesitation to get out of there as fast as possible.

This house is beautiful but definitely needed a good cleaning, lots of grime all over the walls. Unfortunately the beach was unusable due to seaweed while we were there and the smell was very strong but I would still recommend staying at this property. If you have a. Pretty much everything on the island is closed by 9pm so finding food and water after a late flight is difficult but the casino across the street does have a small cafe (plan to get take out if you have kids because they are not allowed inside). This property is about 20 minutes from everything so plan ahead!

Then, the water pump died entirely leaving us with no running water for 1 day. The maintenance guys were quick to fix things and for that we are grateful. Also, two of the rooms AC units were broke and temporary units were installed using cardboard and duct tape. Kinda disappointing to arrive and see that, then to also discover there was no pool as the listing said there was.

There were problems with the electricity the first three days we were there, but they were resolved. Apparently there were problems all over the eastern half of the island. We did have a small plumbing problem which was fixed expeditiously. Location and proximity of beach were great.

Peace and Tranquility
We finally arrived after a challenging 3 days of travel due to inclement weather in the North. We traveled with our 82 year old mother who suffers from Dementia. The minute we walked through the door all our stress and travel-lag washed away! We were welcomed with breath taking views of the Caribbean Sea, a clean and spacious environment with everything we needed for the week, along with Peace and Tranquility!!! I especially enjoyed watching my mom walk on the beach and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine and warm breeze. The house accommodated 6 adults and 2 children comfortably. Very relaxing family stay at this property.
We had a very nice time to hang out with our adult children over the Christmas holiday. The property is beachfront and private. We had everything we needed to enjoy our time together.

Nice vacation spot...with caveats
We had a really nice long weekend here (November 2018).
Focusing on the positive: 1) phenomenal beach access - just like the pictures, it's 25m from the back porch, 2) easy to navigate to via dropped pin on Google Maps - blue roof two down from Divi Resort, 3) plenty of space for 8 guests (6 adults and 2 kids), 4) super staging point for exploring the east side of St. Croix - 20 minutes or less driving to essentially everything, 5) the swimming the reef right off shore was a lot of fun for us (we brought fins and snorkels and navigated a strong swell), 6) reliable internet and cell service allowed us to check in on home easily and streaming services would have worked great...if we'd turned on the TV...which we didn't even consider, 7) always had plenty of water - big rains helped reduce a mild, persistent sulfur smell.
The challenges and head's up notes: 1) Divi Resort got hammered in the 2017 hurricanes and was locally reported to be out of commission until an expected 2020 opening. Nobody home there except for a few daytime workers. 2) The beach, accurately pictured, has a ton of seaweed, which may be off-putting to some. Lots of plastic ocean trash as well. 3) The house offers necessary amenities and space 'on paper' and while its layout was described in the notes, visitor beware. Both bathrooms are located off bedrooms, leaving one bedroom without bathroom access without going through someone else's (presumably occupied) bedroom. It's not the end of the world, but several of our nighttime nature calls were just that, in order to avoid disturbing our friends and family in their private sleeping space.

Relaxing!!
We really enjoyed our stay at Sugar Bird Rest. The seaweed kept us from swimming in front of the house, but we found other beaches to go to. This location was quiet and away from any crowd. The three bedrooms are situated more for 3 couples or a larger family, as the two bedrooms have queen beds and the third has a king.
We would stay here again!
