About this house rental
Just under one mile drive to Timberline Mountain Lodge or approximately 550 yard walk from Golden Bear Inn to the Tunnel on Winterset Trail. *tunnel location circled below, map screenshot from TimberlineMountain.com Golden Bear Inn is a three bedroom duplex with a loft. Off the master bedroom and the family room is a deck with a four person hot tub. In the family area is a wood burning fireplace and cable TV. Off the dining area is another larger deck with gas and charcoal grill and comfortable furniture. The house is supplied with linens and cookware. All you need is food and yourself. We enjoy it most for the opportunity of hiking with our dogs. Trails begin immediately behind the house. A riding stable is about 300 yards from the house. Less than 200 yards away is a tennis court and pond. This home is 6 miles from the Canaan Valley Resort and Ski Area. Whitegrass Cross Country Skiing is 5.5 miles away. We cannot control weather and skiing conditions. Perfect cabin for a family ski trip to Timberline Mountain. Convenient to slopes, well furnished kitchen. Lots of space in living area and kitchen for relaxing and socializing. Very clean.
Only caveat is that only one of four house keys actually opened main door. Probably needs new lock or new keys. Also saw this mentioned in a previous review.
But would stay again anytime and will consider going back for a summer trip to enjoy this beautiful valley and house

We enjoyed our stay. The house has a nice layout inside and out, and a good amount of space for 5-6 people. Lots of nearby activities make Woods End a good location. It was nice to have a pet-friendly option in this location with the nice walking paths around the house. The only problem was the dishwasher. We wish we would have noticed it wasn't working properly sooner so we could have called the office before Labor Day. Everyone was friendly and easy to work with.

Suggest expanding the wifi capability; upgrading the pillows; and ensuring the cleaning fees cover trash removal and sheet/towel cleaning by the guest. All was good here.

The staff was freindly. No problems with reservations, check-in, and check-out. Loved being greeted by the office dog.

The stay was wonderful. Stocked with all the kitchen items you would need. The only negative comment I have was that the place was not cleaned efficiently. There were chips on the floor, muddy shoe prints on the floor in the master bath, and black ashes in the half bathroom sink. Excellent

First time visiting WVA and the bar is high with this place! Relaxing, serene, perfect for our group of 4, perfect place to come home to after long day of hiking and climbing. Clean and well-stocked which are both a big part of feeling home away from home! We will definitely be back, so keep the hot tub ready!
Only issues were gross centipedes on floor (seem to enter from front), keys were hard to work in deadbolt (1 set better than the other but still janky...not sure 1 set even was for front door as didn't work), and trash on front outdoor stairs (small flat clear plastic bag w food remnants strewn across steps and Dairy Queen cup--full and forgotten on steps...this all can be easily seen so can't it be cleaned in advance? Easy to forget about though with the perfect cabin and setting. Great team.

Good things to note: hot tub new-ish / clean; couches comfortable and in good shape, wood supplied for fireplace; nice coffee maker, love the large soup bowls with lids; very much appreciate Dish TV ALways easy to work with - prompt reply to my email with a maintenance issue

The location of the property was very convenient and the space was very comfortable for 4 people. We used the fire place and hot tub. It was a nice getaway for the holidays and we felt very safe in the midst of COVID-19. Had the issues noted above not been a problem we would recommend and come back to this same property, but there were too many that frustrated us. We would choose another unit in the community. Matt was responsive in answering our questions. When we reported the leaking, someone came out to the same day, which was Christmas eve.

Nice place but management company was unresponsive
The place was clean and comfortable. The hot tub was great, as was the location near the fishing/swimming pond. Peaceful and great for dogs. The upstairs bedrooms were very warm, but we had been warned about that in the description. The worst part was the failure of the realty company to address issues. We called the day after we arrived to report that the keys were not working well and it took us ten minutes to get the door open. We also noted the dining room light didn’t work. They said they would send someone out but never did.

I would definitely stay at this property again, really lovely outdoor space. Office was very clean and easy to find. Staff was very knowledgeable and efficient and who doesn't love seeing friendly office dogs.

Nice, comfortable get-away.
Most everything was great with a few areas to make it even better. 1) Wifi only allowed three devices to be on line at one time. 2) Pillows were very flat, so bring your own. 3) Cleaning fee is part of the charge, however guests are required to strip beds, place them and towels in the washing machine, and take trash with you.

Clean, Well Kept and Great Location
We stayed at the Golden Bear Inn over Thanksgiving weekend and it was lovely. The location is convenient to all Canaan Valley has to offer, and easy to get in and out of. The condo is well-provisioned and clean. It was wonderful to have cable, wifi, a hotter and washer and dryer so we could stay in for a day as well. The only things we could ask for are a king sized bed in at least one of the rooms and a whisk in the kitchen.

Nice home, great access to BWF. Beds were a little hard. Love the space, great water pressure upstairs. Loved the Fireplace and Hot Tub. Liked the large windows and furniture downstairs was great.

Great location and the house itself was clean.
My family and I thought the house was perfect for us. We went hiking and biking. The guys went fishing in the pond. The hot tub was a great way to finish the day. The house was clean and well stocked. The beds were also comfortable.

Nice space uncomfortable beds
Rental agents repeatedly made excuses for no wifi at our rental and were ineffective meanwhile wifi worked fine next door. The home is spacious and somewhat well equipped. Furniture in the living room is comfortable but the beds were very uncomfortable, old and in need of replacement. Our 17 year old had back spasms after sleeping on one of the upstairs beds. Ample towels and blankets, tasteful decor.

Vacation hiking and relaxing!
The Golden Bear Inn was an awesome location for are hiking vacation, with our dog! It had all the amenties needed and being in the mountains, in the Canaan Valley, near Davis, W. VA, a 10 degree difference in temperature, under where we live. The hot tub was an added bonus, after a hard day's hiking! Wildlife abounds! Enjoy! Thanks!
