Great location
The room looked amazing online but when we arrived, it looked NOTHING like what was advertised. We also didn't have an allocated car park, so had to walk a very long distance and make multiple trips to collect all of our luggage. We also had to have the blinds closed the entire time because there was no privacy and everyone could see straight into the loungeroom & bedroom from outside the complex. Certainly not worth the price point.

Interconnected rooms worked well for a family, with a shared kitchen and lounge area but essentially two separate bedrooms. The location is hard to beat and the breakfast buffet is very good. There are a great variety of activities to choose from.
Our check in experience was not great - front desk staff appeared poorly informed about our type of accommodation, the fact we had a family apartment booked, and were unable to point out the reserved parking bay in front of the unit. The property is dated in many areas and is showing signs of poor maintenance and upkeep, as well as the state of some of the activity equipment. Overall, it just seems very overpriced - banking on its location perhaps - compared to excellent holiday lettings in the area.

Location

Check in very slow, not enough staff present at 2pm and every second room not yet ready.
Rooms are dated and showers mouldy.

Not much
The room was outdated and in need of some attention. In fact the whole site was a bit underwhelming.
We had to have our blinds closed at all times because all windows faced common areas including the outside dining and bar area. Even a screen would have meant some natural light.

Some of the furniture was stained and old, no fan in the bathroom or toilet, in need of an upgrade in general

I got very sick on 2 January 2024, an hour after I had eaten at the Mantra Lorne breakfast buffet. I sent my son to see if reception could arrange for a doctor to visit me in my room. I had very bad diarrhea and pains in my stomach. I felt terrible. They said there is a hospital nearby and gave him the phone number. I went on to have chronic diarrhoea and felt very unwell for the next 5 days. I had to stay an extra night there with my son as I was too ill to drive home to Melbourne. I was staying at The Mantra with my son who is 18 but does not have his licence. So I had to be the one to drive home but I did not feel up to it. The front desk receptionist was very unhelpful when I said I think I might have gastro. I just wanted to alert her to the fact that I thought I might have caught gastro from being at the hotel so she could ensure a high level of cleanliness for other guests. I felt so sick that I rang the local hospital who told me to drink fluids and take buscopan for my stomach pains. I was told by the receptionist at the desk that if I felt so sick I was welcome to call an ambulance. She made no effort to make sure I was ok nor offered to call an ambulance for me even though I must have appeared very ill. My son and I left on 4 January, having stayed an unexpected 3rd night at our own cost and I went straight to my doctor the next day, on Friday who tested me to see if I had gastro or food poisoning. By then I’d been very sick for 4 days. My sample was given in for testing on Friday 5 January. The results came back the following Monday and were inconclusive. The test was unable to determine what had made me so sick. I mainly had diarrhoea and I also vomited and just felt generally unwell until Saturday 6 January. On that day I finally started to feel better. I will not eat at that Mantra breakfast buffet again. Caroline McPhee

Location - proximity to the beach and township
Room in the heritage building was very tired looking and was not serviced at all during our 3 night stay. A pervasive damp/mouldy smell in the hallways and having to walk up 5 flights of stairs to reach our room.

Perfect location and good facilities.
Room that we stayed in didn't had proper heating. Was bit of a struggle in this cold weather. Plus we could hear noises from outside.

The pictures shown on the website and what we got was totally different. I took resort room paying a bit extra considering would be better view or breakfast included but it was a shame to see the inside.
I felt bad and with the ambience, Tv and all.

The view and happy hour
The breakfast was very average and ordinary had to wait over 30’min both morning for eggs. The bed was very uncomfortable. The room is very noisy and outdated. Also got locked out of our room and my partner has serious anxiety about that and not being able take her medication on time. Overall very bad stay with you guys will stay elsewhere when I return. Definitely not worth the money I paid to stay.

Great location, close to centre and shops. Breakfast was overpriced and pool and spa were both cold! Room was clean and good size for 2 people although the bed was 2 singles put together and unzipped in the night.

Comfortable. Spacious. Well resourced. Breakfast!
The distance from our car to the Unit. It was arduous. We both have sore, degenerative backs. The room spa stopped working.

The staff were lovely, the breakfast was great, the spa/pool, the room and Lorne itself is supurb! Loved the historical decor, photos ... so glad it has been preserved to tell the longer story Also very economical pricing Thanks
I struggled a bit with the fragrances and perfumes in the cleaning products used in the room. However, it was great that the window could be left open, and we were out and about mostly. There are some inexpensive essential oil based cleaning products that are kind on health and better for the environment that could be used instead.
