Don't judge the shaky beginning, or you might miss out on a lovely ending.
I love the old-world charm and restful, quiet atmosphere of the hotel. Breakfast was the highlight of every morning. The food was gorgeous. Lovely young server to bring the coffee, eggs, and whatever else we needed. She also organised extra coffee the one morning when I had some work to do. It was much appreciated because I could see it was not a regular request, which was strange.
We were off to a rocky start. The young man at the desk, handing us our key (lovely old real keys still), sent us to the wrong room. Someone's open suitcase was right at the door when I unlocked it. Luckily, there was no one to be seen in an embarrassing state of dress! Then we found out that, from 6 pm onwards, there would be no one at the desk, we'd had to let ourselves in, and the hotel would seem a bit eerie when we came in at night. We'd have to ring the main hotel to open the door, let ourselves in, etc. We'd have to take the car down to the parking of the main hotel. We'd have to go for breakfast at the main hotel. Everything would be there while we were booked here. We would like to know this beforehand - not on the spot when we arrive. It should be our prerogative to decide whether we're okay with it and choose another hotel if not. This all changed when we got the correct room key. Breakfast would suddenly be served in the breakfast room downstairs. I'm still wondering why. On the first evening, the door didn't work. Someone came to open it for us, but she couldn't do it either because the door was faulty, and we weren't stupid tourists, after all. She had to use my phone to call the hotel to send someone else to bring the key... We weren't impressed. That was the last of the troubles, though. They left the door open in the evening, and the rest were smooth sailing. When we left this morning, it was with a smile and a decision to return when in Dresden next time.

The Bulow Palais is one of the great hotels in the whole of Europe.
I should say that in fact we were upgraded to the Bulow Palais next door: all my comments therefore relate to that. The Bulow Palais breakfast is superb: everything you want.
I found the jams a bit odd and could have done with something like marmalade or apricot rather than the interesting but perhaps a little too odd ones which were on offer - but they were superbly made.

Lovely hotel, would gladly return.
Lovely hotel and comfortable, quiet room. Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the excellent breakfast buffet and dinner in the restaurant.
There was a lot of personnel and it seemed a bit confusing, eg. 3 different people asking us what we wanted to drink at breakfast within 5 mins. But this was a minor thing and everybody was very friendly.

Good
Free bottle of water on arrival. Location quiet and convenient, near a couple of breakfast places. Breakfast to pricey at 18 euros.
A bit impersonal. Some staff ultra friendly and professional, others didn't go the extra mile. We were stressed out after having had buses and flights cancelled, also had to cut stay short owing to Covid. No one asked if we needed a taxi, but we were using public transport anyway.

A perfect place to relax, close to the centre and everything you need.
We stay regularly in hotels but this hotel exceeded our expectations by far, nice staff, very big and comfortable room, very good service, quiet housekeeping, beatiful yard, lounge and interior, fantastic breakfast, perfect atmosphere and location. We will definitely come again.
Nothing.

Excellent hotel conveniently located.
Storage space in the room was very limited for a one week stay. Only a few hangers and very little shelf space and no drawers.
