The house is perfect for a few days. We were 2 couples and it was perfect. It’s cozy but very clean. It is not directly on the waterfront but only a few minutes walk to reach a « shell » beach. We packed a light dinner and walked there to see the sunset. There is also a really nice sandy beach a little further down (about 1.5 km away). It is located about 20 minutes away to the ferry if you wish to visit Martha vineyard.

Our family enjoyed the area and use of the town beach. The home was comfortable and conveniently located. We had a great week.

This cozy cottage is newly renovated, well equipped, tastefully decorated, and comfortably furnished. The location is a short walk to beaches and a few minute's drive to town. The owner is welcoming, a pleasure to work with, and responsive.

To thoroughly agree with Derby's review: The cottage was great. My wife and I and our two young children stayed for a week. "My son slept in the loft which worked fine. Beds were comfortable and place was immaculate with every inch thoughtfully decorated. The island is very quiet, none of the hum of urban and suburban life. The beaches were great. The town beach (five minutes away) was beautiful and had very few people even on a hot August day. We also liked the little beach to the right of the house. It was small with a little piece of sand. Swim shoes or sports sandals are recommended for swimming."
We took advantage of Fairhaven's proximity to other great locations. We took a day trip to visit the mansions of Newport (45 minutes away), a day trip to Barnstable (hour away) to go whale watching which was the highlight of the entire vacation, and a day trip to New Bedford (20 minutes away) to see their terrific whaling museum, go antiquing, and have a fancy dinner on the water.
We would definitely return to Fairhaven in the future and if we do, we will most definitely use these owners. They are a class act all the way!

The cottage was great. My husband and I and our two adult children stayed for a week. My son slept in the loft which worked fine. Beds were comfortable and place was immaculate with every inch thoughtfully decorated. The island is very quiet, none of the hum of urban and suburban life. The beaches were great. The town beach (five minutes away) was beautiful and had very few people even on a hot August day. The clear water was the warmest I have ever experienced in Massachusetts. I also like the little beach to the right of the house. It was small with a little piece of sand. Swim shoes or sports sandals are recommended for swimming. There is a parking fee, but the fee was waived because we were over 60. We rode and hiked in the nature preserve. We kayaked around the island, which is so beautiful. And to top it off, we saw the meteor shower and the milky way. If I had the money I would buy a cottage on the island. Best service I ever had from an owner.

The cottage was great. Very peaceful and the owner very helpful. Beautiful sunsets with the beach a short walk away. Cape Cod only a short drive away. Very affordable compared to other cottages in the Cape Cod area. I would definetely recommend.

The house was great! Small little cottage but surprisingly roomy. It was within walking distance from the beach which wasn't to bad. A lot of the beaches around are not so nice. Fort Phoenix is fun for volleyball and basketball. However the beach is horrible, it was so rocky that we didn't even go in the water and the beach itself wasn't nice either. Our favorite part of the trip was the cottage itself, it was so nice and quite. A great getaway for the weekend.

Our family of 4 stayed here for a few days recently and we really enjoyed it. This location is perfect for day trips to the Cape, the Vineyard, Newport or Little Compton. It is also ideal for "just staying put" since West Island has very comfortable beaches, within walking/biking distance of the cottage. Restaurants and groceries are close by, as well as some excellent seafood markets. The cottage is small, but very clean and nicely decorated. It sleeps 4 comfortably, and could sleep 2 couples and a kid or 2. The 2 queen beds were comfortable, and our 6 year old enjoyed sleeping in the "loft" on the futon, which is accessed by a ladder. The yard is private, and nice for grilling/eating outside. The kids loved the bunnies who seem to be all over the island, and who visited the yard each day. This is really a great place, and I am sure we will rent again. The owner was very nice to deal with, and was concerned for our comfort throughout the process.

For the past two winter seasons (September to May) I have been fortunate enough to make this rental property my home. I was able to see first hand the extensive remodel and upgrades the cottage received. From the modern kitchen, to the fresh tiled bathroom, to the spacious loft that every kid in our family loves to play in, the cottage's features ensures a truly worthwhile trip. The home has water views that are really nice to see first thing in the morning and the closest beach is only a sixty second walk from the front door. Although the property is great, the location gustentees a vacation filled with great restaurants, festivals, cultural sites, day trips, and some of the best beaches in southern New England. I would highly recommend this property for a vacation since living there off season makes one feel they are at leisure well into the winter season.
