Erwarteter Standard wurde nicht geboten

Angelockt durch die schönen Fotos und die überwiegend positiven Bewertungen haben wir zum Abschluss unserer organisierten Rundreise eine private Verlängerung mit ein bisschen Luxus zum Entspannen, Genießen und Verwöhnen erhofft. Da die positiven Eigenschaften des Hotels ausreichend und zutreffend dargestellt sind, möchte ich ergänzend nur die folgenden Erfahrungen beschreiben: Die Enttäuschung fing schon mit der E-Mail-Kommunikation an, mit der es dem Hotel nicht gelang, detaillierte und prüfbare Angebote für eine Ausflugsfahrt zu übermitteln. Auch der Wunsch nach einer brauchbare Empfehlung für eine Winetram-Tour mit Angabe der besten Linien, ihre Abfahrt- und Rückfahrzeiten, etwaige Reservierungserfordernisse, Umsteigemöglichkeiten und empfehlenswerte Stopps für Weinproben wurde nicht erfüllt. Stattdessen bin ich während unserer Rundreise aufgefordert worden, Kopien unserer Reisepässe an das im voraus bezahlte Hotel zu schicken! Der Eindruck und das Interieur des Hauses sind real deutlich dunkler als auf den Fotos. Wir stellten ernüchtert fest, dass unser Zimmer keinen Gartenblick hatte. Einen Gartenblick gibt es nur bei dem vom Hotel so bezeichneten "Gardenroom", das wir mit unserer Buchung auch erwartet hatten. Wir erhielten jedoch das vom Hotel als "Courtyard Room" benannte Zimmer. Hier hat uns das Buchungsportal in die Irre geführt. Den im Zimmer stehenden, ungekühlten Weißwein wollten wir zum Trost nicht trinken, sondern ließen ihn zur Kühlung in die Küche bringen, da ein Kühlschrank im Zimmer fehlte. Die Ausstattung und Einrichtung im Zimmer waren alt, einfach und unpraktisch, nicht etwa antik und wertvoll. Im unbeleuchteten Kleiderschrank stand ein kleiner Safe ohne Display, so dass man sich auf der Tastatur leicht vertippen konnte. Alle Holzfenster und -türen waren mit alten Riegeln und Haken schwergängig bedienbar und wenig vertrauenerweckend. Das Schloss der Zimmertür konnte nur mit Bücken oder in der Hocke betätigt werden.

Am Spiegel des Badezimmers fehlte eine Steckdose, so dass man sich dort nicht föhnen kann. Alle Steckdosen befanden sich tief in der Nähe des Fußbodens. Zum Lesen ungeeignet war auch die Beleuchtung auf den Nachttischen. Der Sisalteppich war verschlissen und zerbröselte. Die Sisalfasern blieben an Füßen und Strümpfen haften. Das Frühstücksbüffet, das auf dem Esstisch für alle Gäste angerichtet war, enthielt sogar Räucherlachs und viel Obst. Es dauerte jedoch gefühlt eine Ewigkeit, bis die gewünschte Scheibe nicht-getoastetes Brot gebracht wurde. Mehrfach haben wir nach dem in Südafrika verbreiteten Sourbread gefragt. Auch am letzten Tag blieb unser Wunsch unerfüllt. Der Service ließ sich am Nachmittag im Garten nicht blicken. Als wir dann in der Küche um einen Tee baten, wurde nicht einmal gefragt, wie wir ihn trinken möchten. Auch ein paar Kekse wurden nicht dazu gelegt. An zwei Tagen wurden nachmittags unaufgefordert Süßspeisen gebracht. Die waren nun wiederum so mächtig und kamen so spät vor dem baldigen Abendessen, das wir das Angebot dankend ablehnten. Wasser stand in unversiegelten Flaschen ausreichend zur Verfügung. Wir machten den Service auf eine ungereinigte Gummidichtung am Flaschenverschluss aufmerksam. In der Lounge steht abends eine Karaffe mit einem Digestif zur Selbstbedienung. Sonstige Drinks gab es nicht.

Perfect relaxing couple of days at the end of a busy trip.

Tranquility - felt very comfortable. Stunning views. Fabulous central location.

The pillows were a bit soft but then we didn’t ask if they had any others so not really a criticism just personal choice 😊

Beautiful peaceful surroundings and gardens. Lovely garden view room. Small, boutique. Excellent staff. Walk to Main Street and restaurants.

A little expensive but worth paying a bit extra for the garden view room.

The most wonderful end to our honeymoon! We loved La Clé!

Everything about La Clé is exceptional. My husband and I visited on our honeymoon and we had such a special time. The property is so beautiful, we loved exploring the garden in the back. The breakfast every morning was out of this world, so delicious! And the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable are special with help booking and organizing wine tours, transfers and offering suggestions for anything we might need. Would highly recommend staying here. We cannot wait to come back one day!

MOST beautiful property i’ve ever stayed at

Truly incredible property. everything is SO beautiful. Impeccable style, decoration, location etc. Very comfortable bedding (the best in our whole trip in SA). Excellent service. The ground is so well kept. We played tennis just right next to the vineyard (although they don’t have proper tennis balls, might wanna bring your own). Super romantic all around. Definitely want to return!

Comfortable and great location

Great location and very comfortable. We received excellent service, particularly from Julia who resolved the issues we had with our room and made our stay extra special.

When we arrived the shower was blocked and the safe wouldn’t lock. These issues were quickly resolved which we appreciated. Also, the wifi is very slow.

Incredible stay and would 100% be back.

We loved our stay - Cle Lodge was stunning and a perfect location for exploring Franschhoek. the facilities were amazing and a stunning view of the mountains. The staff were also incredible, Julia couldn’t have been more helpful and helped us book dinner and taxis. We’ll definitely be back, it was the perfect start to our trip and we didn’t want to leave!

The only thing we could think of to say was breakfast was lovely but the hot food options could’ve been a bit more / better for the property price - however the spread on the table was lovely.

Absolute bliss. We felt right at home.

What a wonderful stay. The homely feel, sharing drinks in the evening with guests from all over the world and sitting down for a breakfast chat was simply amazing. The grounds are beautiful and the staff super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding! We were actually sad to have made different dinner plans - eating in would have been our preference in hindsight. Highly recommend!

If available, request a room facing the pool area. Ours was on the top floor and we missed seeing that beautiful view.

Beautiful, understated luxury with thoughtful, charming service. One of the nicest hotel experiences

From the moment of arrival we were looked after with kindness, initiative, care and yet discretion. We were told to treat the place as our own home, and we truly felt we could do so. The grounds are stunning and the Lodge is a place of calm and beauty yet so close to the centre of town.

As lovely as I remembered!

This is the third time I have stayed here and it is just lovely. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff are excellent. The food options are great value and the location is very convenient for Franschhoek.
