About this house rental

Nestled in Fiji, this charming house for $191 per night is a great choice for your next trip. Our cool and unique Tree House is the definition of island-style peace and harmony. It comfortably fits two to four and is hidden away on an old coconut plantation with an ocean vista and just a short walk from Taveuni's best beaches. Immerse yourself in the natural wonder of the Fiji Islands. This unique and opulent opportunity offers couples, families and perhaps even battered backpackers a place to relax and rejuvenate amid a flourishing postcard-perfect paradise. You can see happiness from here. **THE DESTINATION** Taveuni, aptly named Fiji’s Garden Isle, is the country’s third-largest island and is comprised of one very large, but dormant, volcano. Steeped in nature’s sweetest secrets, with a Mataqali (family) of friendly Fijians charged as her caretakers, the island and surrounding waters are home to the Rainbow Reef, one of many world-famous dive sites; Lake Tagimoucia, the hiding place of the fabled Tagimoucia flower; Bouma National Heritage Park, Waitavala Waterslide and Lavena Point, which each boast several majestic mid-jungle waterfalls; as well as Ravilevu Nature Preserve and Taveuni Forest, two of the island’s most prolific bird sanctuaries. Incredibly, the island offers even more. Eco-industry abounds here, keeping the island in its presently pristine condition. The land is laden with organically grown fruit, root and vegetable gardens. Fresh fish are sustainably farmed. Even the sweet-smelling coconut and frangipani massage oils are sourced from the islands own natural resources and created using practices passed down through generations of earth-aware Fijians. With so much natural beauty, tradition and inherent culture, it’s easy to see why discerning vacationers and enchanted expats, along with their fellow Fijians, have been hiding away here all these years. **THE ACCOMMODATION** Maravu, the exclusive resort of which your private rental is a part, is nestled nicely between Welagi and Naselesele villages, right around the corner from the Matei Airport, and within walking distance to the beach, bus and local convenience shops. Our Treehouse, the highest house on the property, is fitted out with the finest of Fiji furniture. Stress mysteriously disappears as you ascend the 75 steps to your treetop retreat, turn and take in the view of Somosomo Strait stretching as far as the eye can see. Paradise looms at every angle… especially from the sprawling deck which runs the length of the structure and houses chaise lounge chairs, outdoor dining area and even a secret bamboo shower where you can soap up in style beneath the sunny (or starry) skies. Inside, you’ll find the hardwood floors coupled with locally hand-made furniture make quite a cozy sitting and sleeping space. Soft leather warrior-style club chairs create the perfect space to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book, a beautiful Bamboo bed sets the scene for romance uninhibited, and if things get too hot, just fold open your glass-paneled front wall to let in the soft sea breeze. **THE DEAL** A slight twist on the conventional is what really makes Maravu surprisingly special. This remote resort has been reimagined into a humble hostel, where local interaction and eco-living are the order of the day. Structures on the property are provided with Fijian-made candles (and bright twinkling stars) to light their night once the sun has set. Staff operate serenely, on Fiji time, and can often be found conversing quietly with guests or giving weaving, cooking and other village-life lessons. Happily they share their culture with any eager ears they happen to come across. Although your private Treehouse is set apart from the larger resort compound, you are welcome at any time to join other guests in resort activities or make use of the restaurant, bar, pool or spa. Alternatively, you may choose to relax in the reclusiveness of your treetop sanctuary and allow our smiling staff to provide you with in-room food, beverage and massage services. Our concierge booking desk is also at your disposal, and our local team is ready at all times to share their secret island knowledge to help you plan-out, make reservations and schedule transportation for your idyllic day.

Our visit was very disappointing. The hotel looked nothing like the pictures that were uploaded. It was old and run down, with no-one having visited for two years. Also, the description of the hotel was incorrect at best, but more accurately deceptive. Only the bedroom has operating air conditioning (which didn’t work our first night!) and it only works during the night. The furniture is old and falling apart. We had a bees nest in one wall, a wasp nest in the bathroom and ants in every single room. Be aware that the electricity is turned off during the day. This makes the rooms uninhabitable. The site REALLY should point this out given the incredible humidity in Fiji. It is nice to see some of the images have now been updated. However, most give the impression that this is a topical and unique getaway away. This is not the case. The images from 2-12 are not a true reflection of the resort. The ones from 23-48 are a much better representation. This treehouse has not seen guest for a VERY long time. Upon our arrival the treehouse was still being cleaned and wood was being thrown off the balcony. The treehouse itself needs some loving attention. Rustic and dangerous are too different things, The desk is not rustic abode is dangerous. The furnishings are tired. We were supposed to stay here for two weeks however we found that there no power between the hours of 7am and 6pm no Wi-Fi, as we were going to work form here, then this threw a spanner into our stay. Our first night we did not have air conditioning which makes for a very unformattable stay with nightmares as my body temperature was elevated. The sheet over the top of the bed, in the photo, is not a mosquito net and I was attacked be mossies all night. Finah is a wonderful manager who tried her best to address our concerns. Irena and Bill in the kitchen are an amazing couple who work very hard at cooking and delivering food. The other staff are reluctant or downright unwilling to service the treehouse. It advertises treehouse service but there is not the scope to deliver you food to this treehouse, because there are no staff and there are too many steps. Likewise the cleaning is sporadic. The 78 or so steps were for us the easy part, whereas the constant humidity the worst. The best part as the view is spectacular. The original advertising was highly deceptive. Would not stay here every again.

Treehouse-75 steps up
Treehouse-75 steps up
We really enjoyed the view from above the treetops! The staff were all so nice and happy and helpful when needed. We especially loved the driver Deo who took us on our outings, one day he was not able, so his Son drove us. Both of them are full of information and showed us so much on the way to our destination. Deo loves Taveuni and it is evident as she shares the island with us. The restaurant is a nice place to eat and the prices are very reasonable. We knew in advance that there are 75 steps up to the treehouse, but we wanted to try it anyway. THAT was our only negative about this place. It is fun to talk about now and we don't regret our choice of selecting the treehouse for our vacation.
