About this house rental
Whitetail cottage is located on Bass Lake just 10 minutes from Traverse City and about 30 minutes from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Bass Lake is an all-sports lake but best suited for fishing and kayaking. The cottage is located on 500 feet of sandy beach frontage. A charcoal grill is on the deck overlooking the beach and a fire pit on the beach with plenty of firewood is available for renters. Two kayaks are available for renters to use for free and we also have two paddleboards that can be rented by the day. The cottage has two bedrooms with queen beds and two bathrooms. There is a strict 4 person limit due to township rules. The upstairs bathroom has a tub and the downstairs bathroom has a newly renovated walk-in shower. The upstairs, where bedrooms are located, has lower than standard ceilings so if you are more than 6 feet tall, you might consider renting here carefully. If you don't like dogs, this property is probably not for you. We have doodles and a couple of other pups that frequent the beach area and they love people. They will want to come and say hi at some point, guaranteed! Traverse City is famous for many summer festivals and restaurants, but we can also offer easy access to a quiet lake and a beautiful trail system right out of your backyard. Our proximity to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore makes our location perfect for those seeking beauty, freshwater beaches, and gorgeous vistas! We have something for everyone! This was our second stay on Bass Lake, but first in this location. We really appreciated having access to a beach and kayaks, plus the fire pit was excellent. The house has all the things you would want for a long stay, plus the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. The owners were attentive and friendly, and made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent again.
P.S. I recommend bringing a pitcher-type water filter with you. Its a little bit more convenient than buying water by the gallon.

We enjoyed our stay because of its convenience to Leelenau Peninsula. It was located on a quiet lake that was great for fishing. Bath on each level. Hosts were responsive.

The location was great, lots of local things to do and great surrounding lakes to enjoy. The beds very comfortable! The house could use a few enhancements; such as screens on the two glass sliding doors, window dressings that can actually close /provide privacy. Fridge froze items regardless of placement or temperature setting. Lake is great if you only want to fish/boat/kayak, not recommend for swimming if you don't want swim in the weeds.

The house was a great place for our family. The sandy beach was perfect for our young children to play. The house was clean and we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay again!

We had a terrific week staying here! Pics are just as shown. House is clean, cozy, and well stocked. Very comfy beds! Loved having the 2 kayaks, and we rented the 2 paddle boards for the week, which was perfect. The lake is calm, warm, and has lots of fun sandbars to stop at. Life jackets are quite old so we just picked up a few of our own. Water shoes were an item our kids were glad they packed. We loved having a fire pit… many s’mores were enjoyed! We couldn’t believe how secluded the house was but so close to TC! 20 minutes to town where we jet skied, walked around the shops, and had a couple meals. It’s just 40 minutes to the Sleeping Bear dune hike/overlook, and 35 minutes to Fishtown. Jodie was easy to reach with a few questions and was very responsive. Highly recommend all around!

Just what we wanted. Relaxing get away cabin with the ability to fish right in front of the property. Very quiet at night. Perfect if you want to curl up with a book or if you want to kayak on the lake. We caught bass, perch and bluegill from our kayaks. Recommend bringing fishing gear if you like to fish.

The cabin was everything we had hoped for and more. The lake is beautiful and quiet. Absolutely enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend this cabin to friends and family.

The cottage is so cute and meet all of our needs. At first I was worried that there was only one shower (there are 2 baths but one has a tub and the other has a shower). The shower was on the first floor bath and made it easily accessible for everyone.
The views of the lake and the night sky by the fire pit are unbeatable. We were really close to Traverse City so I highly recommend a stay here instead of the hotels in the heart of Traverse City. I would love to stay in this same place again.

We had a blast. Cute clean cabin with everything you need. We did a lot of fun activities in the area but our kids kept wanting to go back to this cabin so we could fish, kayak, swim. Had no problems during our stay. Beds are so comfortable. Love the big walk in shower downstairs. We spent so much time just sitting in the chairs looking out at the beautiful lake.

Great Family Vacation

What a view!
The pictures on the website did not give it justice. Such a cute cozy place.
We loved the lake, so calm and peaceful. We swam, floated, paddle boarded and kayaked!
Everything was so close too. I was afraid our regular stops would be far but they were less than 20 minutes!
Jody and her husband were very friendly and helpful, responsive to questions. We have already booked for next year. We love it!!

Beautiful Area
The whole area is quiet and peaceful and the neighbors were very friendly. The view from the backyard is beautiful. We spent most of our evenings around the fire pit on the beach and making s'mores with our kids. The moon over the lake at night was picturesque. The location is great, with easy access to downtown Traverse City, and Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Great little cottage with a view!
This is a great small cottage with a lovely lake view. Well equipped kitchen and the washer-dryer is a bonus. Very quiet and peaceful area of Bass Lake. This is not a swimming lake, but it is pretty to look at. We enjoyed our coffee on the deck every morning. Jody is quick to respond and a helpful host. My only request would be to clean the windows so that beautiful view shines through!

Perfect
This was the perfect little place to stay. It had the cutest little beach that my kids absolutely loved. It was quiet and the neighbors were so friendly. It was close to the dunes and traverse city. I would book again in a heartbeat!

Spectacular Place!
This is our first time in Traverse City, and this place offers a wide variety of things to do- hammocking, kayaking, relaxing under the stars, pondering at the bonfire, and driving less than 15 miles to town. Our family enjoyed staying in the unit. Note: The second floor is designed for people with heights less than 6’. Thank you, Jody, for your efforts!

It was a lovely house, well designed and well kept. Perfect for our family of four! It was comfortable for my four year old and one year old, and having access to the beach and lake in the back was beyond IDEAL! It was quiet and we felt like we had the lake to ourselves! We even took advantage of the kayaks that are available for use! We truly felt that it was the perfect location to get to Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Traverse City and the surrounding areas! The owners were kind and attentive, and quick to help if anything was needed! I highly recommend this property to anyone, especially families!

Family Vacation
It was a lovely house, well designed and well kept. Perfect for our family of four! pleasant cottage in great location
We had a fine time at White Tail Cottage. The features were all good to excellent and Jody was extremely helpful. The location is great for visits to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, winery tours. We'd go back again if we were in the area.

This was such a quaint cabin on an awesome lake. My kids would have honestly been happy just playing on their beach all day long. They had a blast! We will definitely consider this property again if we are ever back in the area!

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is nice inside and well maintained. The lake is beautiful and quiet. The stargazing was wonderful. You can swim, they added sand and cleared out the weeds up to the dock so my 8 year old had fun in the water and on their float. It is an inland lake and mucky after the dock so we didn't go out much into the lake, but there are kayaks.. There is a fire pit and marshmallow sticks in the kitchen. They had plenty of towels, and the wifi worked fine. The fridge is completely cleaned out so you will want to bring any condiments you may need. We were able to cook up brunch without a problem in the kitchen. My only complaint is the windows facing the lake were cloudy on the inner glass and the screen door was difficult to use, with kids that was the main door we used, my husband managed to hang the door correctly so we were able to carefully use the door. Overall our experience was good and it was a nice place to stay with our family.

This is the third time our family has travelled to Michigan and rented a cabin on a lake. This lake was by far the cleanest and quietest lake we've stayed at by far. The water was pristine and the cabin gave great views of the lake. The cabin was perfection and the owner even lent us their lily pad float, which the kids LOVED.
