Situated in Holualoa, this charming house for $1,297 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. We have named our home Makani Kai which means "ocean breeze" where you can come to relax, watch the waves and let your stress melt away. In our opinion, the house is in one of the most beautiful locations on the island. Situated on the world famous Lyman's surf break, you can watch the surf and surfers ride the waves from almost every room and bedroom in the house. Guests have described our home as feeling that they've rented their own private resort on the island. At over 5,000 square feet Makani Kai is one of the largest vacation rentals on the island. The house boasts 5 bedrooms, 6 baths, with multiple kitchens, 3 separate living rooms and a large game room with a pool table, foosball table and ping pong table. We also have a cornhole board and other board games. This makes the house perfect for extended family and/or multi-family rentals where guests still want to have their own quiet space within the house. Three of the bedrooms have king sized beds. One bedroom has a queen sized bed and one has a double bed. There is also a double bed sized futon couch, queen sized fixed couch and several portable twin sized beds. 4 of the bedrooms have their own bathroom. Each bedroom has an air conditioner that can be separately adjusted to the desired temperature of the guest in that room. There are three sets of washers and dryers in the house for your convenience. The swimming pool is situated on the ocean side of the house so you can enjoy the pool and watch the waves and sunset from the pool deck. The pool deck area is elevated so that the ocean view is enhanced. The house is situated approximately 1/2 a mile north of Magic Sands Beach, which is considered to the the best sandy beach in town. One of the top snorkeling locations on the island, Kahaluu Bay is just 1 mile South of the house. The house is located on Alii Drive approximately 1.5 miles South of the main downtown Kailua-Kona area and roughly 1.5 miles North of Keauhou Bay. Alii Drive is the main ocean front road between downtown Kona and Keauhou Bay. The road is well traveled with significant noise. If you are from a quiet neighborhood you will notice it, while if you are from the city maybe less so. In our opinion, the stunning ocean views are a worthy tradeoff. The back and the sides of the house are surrounded by forest reserve land so your only "close" neighbors are across the street to the left. In the rear of the house there is a large separate patio area that adds to the space of the house and creates a separate quiet area. The front of the house is separated from the ocean by Alii Drive. The game room has a pool table, foosball table, wet bar and various board games for the family to enjoy. There are gated parking areas on both the North and South end of the property that comfortably park 3 vehicles. There is also ample street parking. In the garage there are boogie boards, surfboards, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and various beach toys for guest use. From the main kitchen you can watch the waves while cooking or making fruity island drinks to enjoy by the pool. Surrounding the pool are multiple lounge chairs, tables and a bbq for guest use. Absolutely met and exceeded expectations. Welcoming, spacious, and comfortable are accurate words to describe this property. The fruit arrangement was a pleasant surprise. There was plenty of room for our extended family and friends. However, the main gate did not close, and was unable to close. This could be considered a necessity for a family with children.

Amazing place for us and extended family. 6 adults and 4 children ages 8 to 13. Place was large enough for everyone to have their own space..close enough to amenities ans magic sand beach. Lots of bathrooms and washing machines. Large kitchen for in home meals...

Great location, Ken (property manager) was excellent. The handyman was top notch because we needed him one night when a sink by pool developed leak (downside of house by ocean).
We took an Uber several nights to Lua and several area restaurants. Pool was great! The layout was great! Value is excellent. House needs a little TLC, but I will have very fond memories of my stay on the big island because of the ability to rent a house vs a hotel.

We chose the location because we know that area very well. The house was perfectly located, and my favorite part was all of the afternoon sun on the pool. Everyone had their own space and even more important was that they had their own air conditioning and fans!! We had a fabulous vacation.

The property was everything all the other 5 star reviews mentioned. Property owners very communicative. The added availability of beach towels, sand chairs, cooler, boogie boards and other beach related equipment made our daily adventures so much fun. Thank you!

Great location. Overall, we loved the place. The pool was great. Lots of room. Kitchen was great. House may need a bit of updating. Owner mentioned some difficulty with critters. Cockroaches were present daily. They were more than a nuisance. Interaction with owner was pleasant and helpful. Great celebration for our family with some moderate problems

Overall an amazing stay. Some of the light fixtures were not working, but the view is amazing. Beds were comfortable; rooms kept cool; linens clean, soft, and cozy; kitchen well stocked; grill work’s great; pool refreshing. The house is great size for large groups with plenty of space for group gatherings, as well as enough space for some privacy.

Had 11 people from seniors to age 5 grandson. Nice place for that amt of people. Lots to do. Reason for fair review is place is a little outdated and air conditioners are not always working. Pool was fantastic. Everyone loved lt If you have a large family outing I do recommend it.

We had a wonderful time. Property is as advertised. Close to some great beaches/snorkeling spots within walking distance for us (1/2 mile to 1 mile away). Perfect for dropping off/picking up the family with the beach gear, and driving the car back to the property so that parking was not an issue at the beach. We would definitely consider staying here again.

From the moment we got here we felt like royalty. This house is absolutely beautiful and huge! My parents loved having their own separate living area and kitchen, and the kids each enjoyed having their own space. We had the master bedroom, and there is no better way to wake up. Such amazing views! The house is also in the perfect location to see the beautiful sunsets. They are absolutely amazing! The owners have thought of everything when it comes to what you need, which we were very grateful for. It was nice to have beach equipment to use when needed, and the house is well stocked. They even left us a beautiful fruit basket and goodies, which was a great welcome when we arrived. Especially since we hadn’t tried a lot of the local fruits yet. We will definitely come back again if we are able. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!

One word, Spectacular!
This was our 40th anniversary, and our first trip to Hawaii and we couldn't have asked for a better place to experience the island.
The house was well appointed with everything needed to cook meals and needed nothing!
The house was very clean and comfortable for all 10 of us with only minor issues, ( a/c in game room wasn't working) but the repairman was on it!
My wife is already complaining that we didn't stay long enough (7 day's) so we'll be going back soon and we'll surely stay here again!

Very nice location! All eight of us had a great time! The location with beautiful views, plenty of spaces if you want some privacy, and the private pool all helped for us to enjoy our trip to Hawaii. Only suggestion would be an investment in some new mattresses. Some are starting to be very uncomfortable for sleeping but not a deal breaker!

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect house for our Hawaii vacation! There was plenty of space for 6 adults, 6 kids and 1 baby. The bedrooms were spacious and the kitchen was fully stocked. The house was so big that we could easily lose each other... if we wanted to, :) but it was the perfect place to enjoy quality family time together! There were so many extras as well, like games for the entire family, blue tooth speakers, fully stocked kitchen, beach equipment, surf boards, boogy boards, wagon, water shoes and so much more!! The pool was so much fun and we could not get enough of the view of the ocean from every room and balcony of the house. The sunsets were absolutely stunning!! We already miss those sunsets!!!! The bedrooms were a little too warm when we arrived, but we figured out that the doors had to stay closed to keep the rooms comfortable to sleep. The location (on the Kona side) couldn't have been better! We were able to easily explore the entire island. (Hilo and Volcano National Park were the furthest trips at about 2 hours away.) We also loved walking across the road to explore the tide pools in the mornings. There was plenty of parking space for all 3 of our vehicles. Thanks for such an amazing vacation for our entire family!

We loved our stay at this home! Ken had everything we could possibly need and more. It was conveniently located and we loved that we could cross the street and see the turtles and a gorgeous sunset (which can also be seen from the home). I highly recommend!

Overall our stay was great. Kids enjoyed the pool and pool table. We had trouble with ac in one of the bedrooms. We let them know and they fixed it. Had quite a few cockroaches and sugar ants. We enjoyed watching the surfers from the property and the sunsets. Would stay there again.

The house was absolutely gorgeous with a great location. Just a short walk to magic sands Beach.
The property owner was very easy to reach and very responsive making sure we had a wonderful stay. We had 12 family members and plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. We loved the separated unit but the wonderful feeling of everyone being all together for meals. This place is well worth the stay!

Excellent property & space for the family
The property is beautiful, even just as you pull into the driveway. It looks like it does in the photos online, just a little wear & tear since those photos were taken for the listing.
Views are gorgeous, so many sunsets to admire from the balconies and sitting pool-side.
The kids swam for hours in the pool, utilizing the pool toys stored in the garage. Beaches are within walking distance, and we used the beach chairs that are also stored in the garage.
Bedrooms are perfect, lots of space. Washers and dryers thoughtfully placed for ample access for people in any bedroom.
There are bugs and cockaroaches, but that comes with island living! Oh, there are SO many geckos. The kids were able to catch them to hold & pet them and let them go again. Hours of fun in that alone!
Would highly recommend this house to a large family. We had 10 in our party, and there was so much space for all, plus more.
We had a wonderful vacation, which had a lot to do with this house!!

AMAAAAZING stay, beautiful property gorgeous ocean sunsets!
13 of us stayed here for a family vacation - parents with three teenagers, parents with twin 5 year olds and an 8 year old, plus three grandparents. Plenty of room for all. One house but part of it is a separate unit with its own bedroom, living area, kitchen and washer/dryer. Dining and living areas overlook the pool, and there are ample chairs and tables for outdoor dining. From the pool area you see the stunning sunsets over the ocean, which is just across the street. Magic Sands Beach is a short 1/2 mile (or less) walk south. House is fantastically equipped with two full kitchens, pack & play crib for little ones, boogie boards and snorkel gear. Even an outdoor shower and outdoor-accessible toilet! Communication with property manager was excellent. Highly recommend!
