About this house rental

NEW MASSIVE SNOWFALL! TOTAL ECLIPSE! • The rate depends on the # of people (with age related discounts for children ages 0-17), length of stay, month of the year, weekday(s) or weekend, & holiday or no holiday. • Vrbo's QUOTES CAN'T BE MADE ACCURATE, SOMETIMES TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW. • Y0U MUST INQUIRE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL RATE QUOTE! • The Brook House can be rented by the day, week, month, season, &/or event. There's 2 fully equipped kitchens & lots of open common space to gather your family & friends & enjoy yourselves in a spacious & peaceful country house with 2 large, red brick hearths with fireplaces (to look at, but not use). Both kitchens are on the 1st floor (with 1 gas stove & 1 electric stove) & also a large dining room with a big Vermont Castings wood stove (to look at, but not use) & with 2 wooden dining room tables & many wooden chairs (including Hitchcock chairs). The Brook House is a single family, country home: • It's privately situated on 10 beautiful, partly open & partly wooded, rural acres with views of the Green Mountains' east side. • On our 10 acres there's a pond (to look at, but not use) & in the back is the rushing mountain (Goodno) brook, with a small waterfall & small water hole (both are to look at, but not use). • Just beside the Brook House there's our apple, pear, & plum orchard. Inside the Brook House you will find a large, single family, handicap accessible (just on the spacious 1st floor) house with a warm, welcoming atmosphere where a large family or group will feel right at home surrounded by homey, country style antiques & decorations: • The 2,700 square foot house has 13 rooms on 2 floors of the house. 5 of the rooms are BRs so there are 8 common rooms, & a small mudroom, a large, wide hall, 2.5 bathrooms, & in the master BR there's a jetted bathtub & hand sink. • 12 people can sleep in the 5 BRs. For a larger group, the 3 open-up couches can sleep 5 people & the 1 open-up futon couch/bed can sleep 2 people, so the house can sleep 19 people. And in the warmer months the open-up futon couch/bed on the screened-in back porch can sleep 2 more people, so then the house can sleep 21 people. There are also 3 fold-up single cots that can fit in 2 of the BRs. • There's wireless internet all around. On the 1st floor there are 9 rooms, a large, wide hall, a small mudroom, & 2 full bathrooms: • There are 2 complete kitchens. 1 is a galley kitchen (with no dishwasher). • The larger kitchen (with a dishwasher) has a small living area at 1 end with a large, red brick hearth with fireplace (to look at, but not use), a single size open up couch, satellite TV, & videos. • There's a large, wide hall that leads to the galley kitchen. • Also, on the 1st floor there's the large, main living room with another large, red brick hearth with fireplace (to look at, but not use). • There's a large dining room with 2 dining room tables, many chairs, & a beautiful Vermont Castings wood stove (to look at, but not use). • There's also a den with a double size, open up couch, satellite TV, & videos. • Through an archway from the den there's a small, square, shingled office/library/board game room with a queen size, open-up couch/bed, a desk, 1 house telephone, books, board games, cards, & jig saw puzzles for all ages. • Still on the 1st floor, south side of the house there's 2 sunrooms (1 heated) with houseplants. The west sunroom has a queen size open-up futon couch/bed. The east sunroom has a couch. • There's also a small mudroom. • On the 1st floor there are also 2 full bathrooms. The larger bathroom is handicap accessible with a special roll-in handicap shower with an attached, fold-up wooden bench, & 2 shower heads (1 low hand-held & 1 high). There's also a handicap hand sink, a handicap mirror, & in the small alcove of the bathroom is the handicap accessible toilet. There's also a laundry area in the larger bathroom with a washer & drier. The smaller bathroom has a bathtub/shower combination, hand sink, toilet, closet, & window facing north. • There's one large BR on the 1st floor with a queen size bed & a single size Craftmatic bed that, by a push of a few buttons, will electrically raise or lower the head &/or foot of the bed & turn on a massage feature. • In the back of the 1st floor there's a fully screened-in back porch with 2 tables, chairs, & a queen size open-up futon couch/bed that is for warm weather use. • Off the screened-in back porch there's a high-up deck, totally enclosed with railings all around & with a table, chairs, & a large, gas barbecue grill. From both the screened-in porch & the deck you can enjoy a family meal or experience quiet contemplation while listening to the sounds of Goodno Brook down in the woods behind the house. Upstairs on the 2nd floor there are 4 (of the 5) BRs. • Lavender BR #1 is the largest, is L shaped with a queen size bed, 2 windows facing north into the backyard, a skylight facing west, & in the alcove is a jetted bathtub & a pedestal hand sink. • Red BR #2 has a double 4 poster bed & 2 windows facing the large, front lawn on the south. • Ivory BR #3 has a double 4 poster bed & 2 windows facing the large, front lawn on the south. • Blue BR #4 has a double bed, a single bed, 2 windows facing west, folding louver doors, a small hall, & 1 step down into the bedroom. • There are 3 single, fold-out cots. • There's a purple half bathroom on the 2nd floor with 2 hand sinks in a large counter, & a large bureau full of towels, etc. The house is fully supplied: • There are many dishes, glasses, utensils, pots, pans, 2 microwaves, many toasters, & 2 coffee makers. • The beds are all made with plenty of bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets, & extras for fold-out couches & cots) & there's a large amount of towels. Outside there's plenty of space (also for parking cars in front of the house). Our house is in a perfect location for year-round exploration, adventure, & to simply enjoy the peace that only nature can provide. • You will be surrounded by the ever changing huge sky & puffy clouds, views of rolling hills & beautiful Green Mountains, sounds of birds & Goodno Brook, & the moon & stars. • In winter (right out the door) there's cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, & children (& the young at heart) will have fun coasting/sledding on our many sleds. • In spring explore melting snow & ice on the brook. Experience the sight of emerging new plant life, the sound of birds chirping, the smell of the forest awakening, & the feel of fresh soil underfoot. • In summer you can barbecue on the gas grill on the deck, cook in the very large, red brick fireplace (fueled by wood) in the side yard, play volley ball, badminton, & other outdoor games, enjoy the pond, (to look at, but not use), enjoy Goodno Brook's water hole (to look at, but not use), & small waterfall, (to look at, but not use), hike along the brook in the ravine, mountain bike all around, simply enjoy a walk in the woods, do some photography, & bird watch. • In fall you will enjoy picking (depending on seasonal variations) apples, pears, & plums in our orchard beside our Brook House & be enthralled by views of incredible orange, yellow, & red foliage that abounds all around & in the mountains. The Brook House is located on Bethel Mountain Road & it's a 2 minute, 1 mile drive down Rochester Mountain to the small, beautiful village of Rochester, the center of town, (on the very scenic, Route 100 & the third branch of the White River). There are many points of interest, all within walking distance to the town center: • The focal point is the "park" with its bandstand for Sunday evening free summer "Concerts on the Park" & Friday's farmer’s market. • For eating out, there's The Huntington House Restaurant with gourmet dining & attached in the back is the casual Doc’s Tavern. A few steps away is Rochester Café, with soda fountain, Maple Soul Restaurant, & Sandy’s Books and Bakery & Book Annex. • Also is Big Town Art Gallery, Rochester Bicycle Shop & rental, Rochester Public Library, Pierce Hall, classic white Federated Church, Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, Village Grocery Store, Rochester Hardware Store, & gas station with convenience store. In the town of Rochester (just minutes from the town center) there's interesting things to do still on Route 100: • There's Pick-Your-Own Organic Berry Farm, town owned tennis courts, an antique & music shop, the tiny Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church, a picnic area, & swimming holes on the 3rd branch of the White River. In the town of Rochester, but off Route 100, adventure awaits: • Nothing beats the beautiful back roads & incredible vistas of North Hollow & Middle Hollow for sightseeing by car &/or bicycle. • Julie’s Arc is in the Hollows & is a private barn & land where, when passing by, you may catch a glimpse of an assortment of country animals (& cats) & also exotic animals (llamas, alpaca, etc.). • You must not miss a free peak down into the very, deep antique green marble quarry, 1 of only 2 in the world. • Mount Cushman, a mile from the Brook House, can be hiked up along a mountain trail to the top where there once was a fire lookout tower. • There's a very large trail system in & out of town, organized by Ridgeway, of very many groomed trails for hiking, biking, cross country skiing, etc. Out of town there are: • the large Lake Dunmore & Silver Lake for swimming, boating, camping • several places to rent inner tubes & go tubing down the third branch of the White River • winter sports (downhill skiing, snowboarding etc.) & it is an easy drive north, south, & west since the house is ideally located equally between Killington, a 25 minute drive to the south & Sugarbush, a 25 minute drive to the north. There is also Pico Mountain, Mad River Glen, & the Middlebury College Snow Bowl. (The latter of which is just a 15 minute drive from the house.) This allows you to try different ski areas, check snow conditions & go to the best ski area.

The location was nice and quiet for the perfect winter getaway. However, the house was very outdated. Overall the stay was okay but just a little uncomfortable.

Had a great weekend with my large group of friends at Don's place. Was treated to nice hospitality. The place was clean and the double kitchen was easily able to handle the cooking needs of the group. The place was a 30 minute drive from Killington which is where the group spent the day skiing/snowboarding so the place was very convenient.
