This small apartment is a fascinating place. The building dates back to between the wars and is furnished with old style furniture that is in keeping with the period. The huge north facing window lets in a lot of light for the sitting room and the remaining two outside walls have large fenestration that is also illuminating. Fortunately the plumbing fittings are modern but retro-styled to be of the same time period. The kitchen is small but fully equipped but I feel that you would need the skills of a rail-car chef to produce a large meal for several people. The shower I found to be challenging. The tub is an old claw foot cast iron or steel tub with rounded corners to the bottom. Standing in it I found to be unsteady. However we stayed for a month and became used to it after a few tries. We intend to return next year for a few winter months. Incidentally the heating in the winter was adequate and I loved the old cast iron radiators. Reminded me of my old red brick grammar school. The location is splendid. Local shopping available and downtown Victoria is less than 15min walk away.

Located in the heart of James Bay and within easy walking distance of Beacon Hill Park and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the apartment was spacious, charming and steeped in the history of one of Canada’s artistic icons. We loved our time there and would happily stay there again. Communication with the property manager was prompt and helpful. We’d recommend this stay without reservation.

The property was very well set up with everything that we needed. The apartment is beautifully furnished with antiques to reflect the age of the building and the period that it represented. The owner was very responsive and made our stay very easy. We loved the history with Emily Carr and had the opportunity to see the attic. Walking distance to downtown, close to parks and beaches. Will stay here again and highly recommend as a unique stay in Victoria.
