Prachtig gelegen lodge met allemaal losse (1 kamer) huisjes met (gave!) buitenbadkamer. Mooi uitzicht vanaf restaurant.

The surroundings are very interesting, we can see many birds during breakfast and even a iguana.
Room and bathroom are spacious.
Check-in was the worst experience we could ever have. The receptionist didn't speak English and was trying to take my credit card number for a deposit. I explained that I could do that electronically but I couldn't write down my cc number cause it wasn't safe. We had hard time trying to communicate with each other, so he called someone else (maybe manager or owner) but, instead of simply addressing my concerns she was extremely rude (I don't know if the fact that she had a strong smell of alcohol had something to do with the attitude), saying first that I had no option but in the end I could just give 50 USD as deposit and they returned it next day. We felt totally unwelcome there and the room wasn't so clean, with spider webs on the bed headboard.
The breakfast was until 9:45am, but we arrived at 9:20pm and the buffet was no more. While we were looking for food, 2 ladies who were washing the dishes came asking what was our room and rudely asked if we had breakfast included. We answered positively, so they made a complete dish for us and it was a lot but honestly the rice didn't feel so fresh, I had the impression that it was made a while ago.
We've been having a great experience in Costa Rica and that was the only hotel we had such a bad experience, every other hotel was very friendly and way different, so I tend to think that this awful customer service come from the top. A bad manager/owner will not orient its employees towards providing a good and friendly environment to its customers.
We booked this hotel due to some good reviews here, so we wanted to warn others what we had there. If those sort of things are ok for you, you can go ahead, but we wanted to share our experience so other people will have a better idea of what to expect.

A basic lodge set in beautiful rainforest. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. Staff are friendly and very committed to the conservation and protection of the fauna. Wonderful hearing and seeing scarlet macaws frequently as well as many other birds and monkeys. Restaurant serves simple, tasty food including good wood fired pizza.

Room was very nice. Beds were comfortable and it was great to have AC. Bathroom was outdoor style which was really neat (and private). Grounds were really beautiful and the pool was great for cooling down. We were there for birdwatching and saw so many different species. Loved seeing the Macaws... but so many other birds as well. The main deck was a perfect spot to relax and see different birds and wildlife visit through the day. Great for photographs. Food was fantastic, especially the wood fired pizza. Staff were very friendly and helpful!

Awesome place. You wake up in the morning in the middle of the jungle, awesome. The rooms are beautiful and the staff is very very helpful. Having breakfast on the terrace with parrots all around is priceless!

beautiful location, great staff, excellent food

The room was very comfortable and air conditioned. The property is great for bird watchers as many species can be viewed from the restaurant deck and there are plenty of scarlet maccaws around.
This is not really a complaint just an observation- it's fairly isolated, located a few kilometres down a dirt road quite a distance from Tarcoles. You need a car to get anywhere. We didn't have one but were able to get a ride to Cararas Natonal Park with other people from the lodge and arrange a taxi to take us other places.

It is great for bird spotting. You can spot red Macaws
The villa was quite basic

Absolutely stunning setting! Close contact with monkeys, macaws and iguanas plus countless bird species! The restaurant was always delicious and offered amazing Gluten Free options (so good I didn’t believe them at first 😅) The pool was lovely and the pod room was set up nicely.
It is quite a bit off the beaten path so unless you have a car or are willing to pay for the taxi, it is not within walking distance of anywhere. The showers could have been cleaner, was always spider webs in them and hair gathering outside of the shower. The kitchen was large, but lacking basic needs such as a sharp knife and cutting board, or clean rags to wipe down the counters. The pods also needed a good sweep from the spider webs.

This is an ideal venue if you want to experience birds and wildlife. During our stay, we got to experience howler monkeys in very close proximity to the hotel. The hotel has bird feeders set out in front of the dining area, which is frequented by several birds, mainly in the mornings. Secure parking for your vehicle is at the hotel. The staff were amicable and went out of their way to be helpful.
Unfortunately, the beds in our room were riddled with bed bugs! Having travelled extensively and stayed at many venues worldwide, it is always disappointing to have high expectations from a hotel only to be let down by something avoidable like this. My partner and myself were eaten alive by bed bugs which we initially thought were attributable to mosquitoes. On closer investigation, we found rusty, reddish tell-tale signs of bed bugs being crushed on the bed linen. On checking out, we needed to have all our clothes in our luggage dry-cleaned at the next hotel on our travel itinerary, to avoid taking the bed bugs home with us.

Nice swimming pool and cool restaurant with forest view. We saw some birds amd monkeys while having breakfast and that was nice.
The room was ok but maybe too expensive. However prices in Costa Rica are always high so it might be a general issue.

Our rooms were small cabins with a porch. They were charming and nicely furnished. We were surrounded by nature. The reception and restaurant are all open air with a back deck for viewing. Every morning they fill feeders, so a big event is to get up early to see the Capuchin monkeys and red scarlet macaws come to visit. Great pictures!! The food is wonderful....pizza, salads, everything. Other reviews mentioned this and we totally agreed. The people were wonderful and made excellent recommendations for our activities. We stayed two nights so we could spend time hiking at the Carara National Park (which was awesome, great having a guide) and took a boat ride tour.
The pool is older but not a big deal for us since we were there to see the wild life and experience nature

The birding was incredible. Just hang out on the deck of the patio for a while and some amazing birds will fly right in and put on a show for you! Restaurant is lovely, the pizza was amazing — we had it every day! Really lovely place.

We picked Cerro Lodge in a rush but were delighted with what we found. A tranquil place not far off the main coastal route , a good place to relax and break our journey. The staff were efficient and friendly. There were freebies such as teas and coffees and fruit in the morning. We enjoyed the howler monkeys near our cabin at dawn and spent pleasant time sitting on the terrace with our binoculars to see the varied bird life. Swimming pool was good also..
It was a little difficult to find, and the turn off the main road onto an unmade up road, which was apparently closed (a security guard had a rope across it) was off-putting.

Nothing went well. The entire stay was a disaster. This place is a money grab. An intentional trap for tourists to get to the property and stuck with zero options, other than to pay the demands of the hotel.
The beds were hard as a rock. The room was sterile, plain and without aesthetics' in a classroom style lighting arrangement. No running water for showering, brushing teeth or providing medication was a complete deal breaker. The management was rude and insisted on over charging for a shared dormitory space that we did not want/need or use. But still charged $60 additional.

Only thing missing was a save inside the habitation.

a lot of wild animals come to the property to enjoy the visitors

The staff and the food were great (but US prices, very expensive - make sure to book the room with breakfast included to save a lot!). The room was clean and the A/C worked fine.
They put out food to attract monkeys and birds for their guests -no wonder people see birds there. It's more like being at the zoo. The rooms are old and we got a huge discount - I think the list price was $125/night - total rip off if you pay that. There was no fan so it's either a/c or nothing.

The location within the mountains with an excellent view of tbe ocean at far distance.
The condition of the road. About three and a half kilometers of unpaved and uneven road full of big cracks that makes it umpassable. You have to drive very, very slowly.

The staff was friendly and the facilities were good.
That there's no WiFi nor network signal on the rooms.
I was also not expecting the 3km gravel road to reach the hotel.

The place
services for such prices : room dirty with dead and alive insects
- food : we found a little piece of plastic in our burger
-wifi : non-existent near the room
-the feeders for the birds was not ready for the second day...really a pity when you come for them
