The pictures were about 15 years old. We were unprepared for the cultural shock, I little info would have helped. We were not aware that the help lived in the house, there was no privacy what so ever. Respectfully Carlos and Lucita were great and very helpful. The roads were the worst I’ve ever encountered and we were a long way from most attractions. Be prepared for an expensive trip. We had a great time in spite of misinformed

Everything was fabulous. It is far out from town but our group didn’t mind that has we pretty much venture out on the golf cart daily. Carlos and Judith were amazing and taking care of everything for us during our stay.

Staying at Escape Away made the perfect home away from home for our girls dive trip. They were there waiting for us at the airport to take us to the house in golf carts, the way everyone gets around on Ambergris Caye. It's a fun adventurous ride to the house and you get a flavor of the hustle and bustle of San Pedro along the way. Seven of us slept comfortably and had plenty of room with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Everything is very clean, including bedding, and the towels that were provided. The pool is pristine and a great treat overlooking the ocean on hot days. It truly was a complete vacation with Carlos, Lucita and Wilfredo there to take such good care of us, providing anything we needed and cooking awesome meals according to our taste and timeline. The dock is so much fun to hang out on warm nights with ocean breezes, and you can fish or swim off it. We arranged our dives and other activities through No Worries Tours and were picked up in our own private boat right at our dock. So awesome! Staying at Escape Away just makes everything simple and easy. This is my second stay at the house, and I feel like family there. I plan to make it at least an annual trip. Jerry, the owner, is very quick to respond to emails and answer any questions or issues you may have.

Girls trip! Group of 6 and we had the best time! Everything was exactly as described and Carlos was so helpful with everything we needed! My second time staying and I highly recommend it!!

My family and I had planned this vacation for over a year and looking at the VRBO listing and the pictures provided and decided that Escape Away Belize was the ideal place for us. I owned a home in San Pedro for 16 years but never realized how far 8 miles north of town this house was.It is a long way especially at night.
The photos in the listing were older and the entire house at this point needs attention, they did not accurately portray the condition of the house. The food was adequate and the portions were more than enough for the 8 of us.
The pool and the pier were two of the best features of the house. If you do not like dogs this house is not for you. We had a local dog both in and out of the house for a week.
We rented two golf carts for the week knowing that we would travel to town often. This was a big mistake, between the two carts they broke down 6 times leaving us stranded in town and one night driving 8 miles without lights. I requested a refund for the golf carts and was told by the owner I would receive one. I am still waiting.
To summarize, Ambergris Caye and San Pedro has many beautiful aspects but this home is not one of them. I would not stay here again!

I wish I could give 5 stars, but there are a few things to consider. The property itself is brilliant, ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat with incredible weather. However, be prepared to stay on-site for most of your stay.
The journey from the airport is grueling, involving a long, dusty, bumpy, and hot 30-minute drive on a dirt road. But once you arrive, you'll find a beautifully maintained property with a private pool offering stunning ocean views, ample lounge chairs, and easy beach access.
Inside, the house has a spacious gathering area with a large dining table, comfortable seating, and ocean-facing views. The beds are comfy, A/C keeps things cool, and the kitchen amenities are as described.
The highlight is the staff - Carlos, who is incredibly helpful, and the talented chef, Lucita, who prepares exceptional meals. The owner, Jerry, is also highly responsive and caring about your stay.
However, there are some drawbacks. We visited during the rainy season, so we expected challenges beyond the property's control. Heavy rain and mosquitoes kept us indoors. The property has tried to combat mosquitoes, but they can be relentless, especially after rain. Bug spray is a must.
Additionally, the road to the property is tough, and mosquitoes can be relentless outside until you gain some speed on a golf cart.
In summary, if you seek a secluded getaway where you won't want to leave the property, this is perfect. We loved our stay and plan to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the time spent! The staff (Alan and his family) was so warm and accommodating. They provided stellar service and the meals were most delicious! We appreciated their thoughtfulness and kindness which showed through in our interactions. We also used "No Worries Tour" for all of our excursions and their service and expertise were commendable. Mr. Hill and his staff were attentive and made our time enjoyable. The only disappointment we experienced was dealing with the Seagrassum. No one to blame but the condition of our world. They did their part in trying to manage it.
We would love to visit again!

Our stay was fabulous, the view was breathtaking!!! You could not ask for anything more beautiful.... The cook was so pleasant and the food was great! We are already planning our next trip back to them! Carlos and everyone took care of everything for us! Not enough room to put everything down, I will recommend this place to everyone!!

This property is out of San Pedro and is a great location from all the hustle and bustle of the town and all the golf carts. We really enjoyed the privacy. Carlos, Losita and Wilfrido were amazing. Wilfrido was always willing to do and help in any way to make our stay more pleasant. The Chef is not a 20 year Chef, but we never went hungry and there was plenty of food. Homemade tortillas, French Toast, fried and baked fish we caught on one of our excursions through No Worries Tours. By the way George and Mario were great guides on both of our trips.
All of my Family had a great time and we would definitely go back.

We had such an amazing visit! I'd highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Ambrigis Caye!
The views, Caribbean breeze, and snorkeling were unmatched! The convenience of having the kayaks at our disposal to head out to the reef and snorkel was phenomenal for our active group!
Carlos, Frido, and Lucita were so attentive to our every need! We'd mention something and "poof" it appeared (fresh coconut/pineapple, cooking our caught fish)! The food was great and the hassle free meals made our vacation such a treat, allowing us more time as a group to relax, play, and connect with one another!
Carlos was amazing at getting us settled in and then set up with guides/tours to Hol Chan/Shark Alley/Caye Cauker, and a fishing day. He also arranged for the ladies to have massages right on the property in the Carribean Breeze. So relaxing and unique! What a treat.
Frido did an amazing job of keeping the property and pool immaculate. The daily chore of removing of the seagrass was exhausting to watch, but his daily attentiveness kept the seagrass to a minimum. He made sure we could relax on the Palapa in a hammock and prepped the ladder daily to allow us full use of the dock and Palapa for snorkeling and relaxing!
Lucita- was such a treat. Her cooking was GREAT and I loved trying out and enjoying local specialties as well as fresh fruit! She would check in with us daily as to our plans and always had the meals ready for us!
They were like family by the end!
Thank you so much!!

Our stay at Escape Away was great. We enjoyed the privacy of being in a remote area and having our own private beach and pier. Although the ride to town is a little longer, we had no problems with it and enjoyed the adventure. Secret Beach is not too far and there is a grocery store and several restaurants close to Secret Beach. We also enjoyed the “convenience stores” that were within walking distance of the house. Lucita is a wonderful cook, and we had a variety of food. When we told her we liked fish, Carlos and Wilfredo went out of their way to get fish for us and she also cooked what we caught. Lucita prepared some traditional Belizean meals including stewed chicken, cold cake, meat patties, BBQ fish as well as nachos, shrimp tacos, fish fingers, and ceviche. We enjoyed fresh fruit for breakfast every morning as well as homemade fry jacks and tortillas. Carlos helped us with everything, picking us up at the water taxi, assisting us with our luggage and picking up supplies we wanted from town. If we needed it, he or Wilfredo made it happen. The grounds were well maintained and the pool was clean. We booked an excursion to Lamanai as well as a reef fishing trip with No worries tours. We did venture into San Pedro which was very busy. Most of all we enjoyed just relaxing by the infinity pool with the beautiful beach view !

The property was ok, a little less than the photos. The pools was great and it was a very private area. The distance away from things was long, due to the condition of the road.
The food was ample but was not a great deal of variance. The help was attentive and pleasant. The secret beach is a great place to go and spend the day. We did day long snorkeling trip which was fantastic.

We had a fabulous stay! Carlos & Will take great care of you and the property. Lucita was a great cook and prepared all of our meals at the time we wanted as per our request. Having the pool and sea were complete paradise. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Secret Beach or to town. Renting the golf cart was ideal. We enjoyed several days just staying at the camp in the peace and calm and unwinding. We look forward to going back in December.

We were treated so great by the staff. I was aware meals would be provided, but Carlos, Lucita, and Wilfredo went above and beyond. Lucita showed us how to prepare authentic Belizean food. They even made us a cake for the two events we were celebrating while there. We would mention something we would like to do and they would make it happen.
The pool was amazing! I would recommend renting the golf carts from the house, which we had at arrival.
We loved the house and the people. We left with new friends! I cannot wait to return.

We had a wonderful 12 days at Escape Away! The food was delicious! We just talked with Lucy, our chef for the visit, each day to plan the menu for the coming meals. We specified that we love fruit and veggies and they would get them for us. We had such good things including shrimp kabobs, grilled fish, conch fritters, fresh salsa and chips, guacamole, shrimp tacos, BBQ chicken, and so much more! The breakfast "patties" were our favorite!
The location is out of town, but we loved our outings to the city and to Secret Beach. We also took a few dinners at the local recommended restaurants, which were delicious (our favorites were Moon's pizza and for a finer dining experience we liked Portofino).
The house is very clean. The sheets were clean. We had a cleaning half way through our stay. The pool is nice, but it is not heated. So we preferred the beach chairs and the ocean! They worked very hard to keep up on the seaweed, although we were there during a very bad time for the sargasm. The weather was lovely while we were there, but if the wind is not around there tends to be bugs everywhere on the island.
Carlos and Lucy were amazing! They helped us with whatever we wanted/needed. They played cards with us in the evenings. They were wonderful to us! Lucy even braided our 5 year old's hair every day! She is so good at it! The dogs were so cute. We miss them!
We also had a great experience with the trip/excursion planning guy named Hill. He heard our needs for fun trips and scuba diving and set up several day trips for us. The tubing and zoo trip on the mainland is a must do thing! But the bugs are pretty bad at the zoo, so bring protection! We did two scuba excursions and I am still in awe of the beautiful reef in Belize! I must say though, that our favorite times were spent sitting on the patio at Escape Away in the mornings drinking coffee and in the evenings with our favorite cocktail!
The trip to town took us anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes and it is BUMPY! But our golf cart that we rented from Jerry was great and we enjoyed having our freedom to go anywhere on the island. Our two favorite beach trips were to Tranquility bay up north about 20 minutes golf cart ride and Secret beach which is about 20 minutes south. We went to each beach twice while we were there!
Thank you Jerry, Carlos, and Lucy! You made our trip very memorable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to this amazing beach house! The beach house was our own private oasis during our stay. San Pedro is full of wonderful friendly people and there are endless things to do. If you are like us, you love being active and busy! But I also love having peace and quiet and privacy with my family when I want to also. Judith and Luceli prepare 3 delicious meals every day and cleans up after! Snacks of fresh shrimp ceviche is omg incredible! Everything is taken care of! We've read the complaints in the prior review and we can assure you that every complaint is taken very seriously and corrected! We loved the huge super clean swimming pool with new floaty chairs. New linens and towels were provided and we felt very comfortable and cared for.
We totally loved snorkeling Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley!
We recommend the beach house to our friends and family and we will be back soon!

This was a great place for our first trip to Belize. Carlos was an incredibly friendly, helpful and fun property manager. House is clean and very comfortable. Coffee on the deck in the morning was amazing. Pool is clean and convenient. Palapa was the best. Thank you, Jerry for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

I’ve been trying to get my thoughts together for a week since getting back from our trip. I must say I never leave a bad review.
1. The ride to San Pedro from this hosue is NOT 25 mins by golf cart. It takes 45 mins It takes 33 mins to get to the “truck stop”.
2. The bed linens and towels were old and out dated. They could use a fresh set of sheets and towels.
3. The chef- unfortunately I believe the original chef is sick and unable to cook. So they have hired another person and it is as if my 17 year old kid was cooking. There is nothing out of ordinary about the food. Very plain and bland. We only had lunch one day because we were gone most days. Breakfast was bare minimum. It was 6 adults and we got1-2 pieces of bacon on the days bacon was cooked. We asked if we could have more bacon cooked and it was frowned upon and we were told they didn’t have anymore. They ran out of cheese and used cheese we brought for snacks. The options for dinner were chicken or hamburger meat. We asked for fresh fish. we got fish one night. The snacks and soda that are mentioned in the write up didn’t exist.
4. The pool is completely covers by trees so the water doesn’t warm up at all. It was ice cold.
5. The beach was full of stinky seaweed and water was brackish.
6. We asked about the boat use with a captain and Mr.Hill didn’t know anything about that.
7. The house was overall dirty.
8. The 3rd bedroom is a converted porch and felt like it.

We arrived in San Pedro and was greeted by 2 amazing people. Carlos and Judith. Carlos welcomed us after a brief snafu with flights delay but communicated everystep. We arrived at the house after a most excellent ride on the 6 passenger golf cart. Dinner was ready absolutely delicious curry chicken m
by the most amazing cook Dorita who was filling in for Judith. We settled in for the night on amazing beds and awoke to discuss plans with Carlos who lives on site downstairs in a private residence. The house was beyond amazing as well as every meal, never lacked for anything to eat. Even during hurricane Lisa we felt totally safe as Carlos and staff made sure guest safety was priority 1 . The entire stay was incredible including Hill, Mr Hill is his Dad lol he stopped by to talk about tours which were absolutely incredible. Needless to say we are in love with Belize, the people and more importantly the hosts and staff they felt like family.. The owner Jerry has set the standard for VRBO. We also toured Harmony house the new property as Dorita and Alan are hosts there. We will return to the beauty of Belize, and Escapaway to see our extended family. PS Wilfredo the grounds keeper was amazing as well.

This home is even better in person!! Awesome service and we didn't want to leave!! It is a little farther out of town but it was private and everything was just a golf cart ride away. I would stay here again!!

We were late getting to the Island thanks to a delayed flight. I had Carlos’s number so I let him know. He said no problem! He met us and got us to the house and they had dinner ready when we arrived. Everyone was amazing. The home and location is better than we imagined. It was truly what we had hoped for and more. They answered every question and took great care of us!
Carlos and Larisa treated us like family! We will be back!!!

We traveled as a group of 6 women to this beautiful property. We very much enjoyed the location, the pool, the food, and of course Judith, Carlos, and Wilfredo. They made our trip very memorable and we'll have friends for life! Judith's cooking was amazing!
The home was a bit further out of town then we anticipated however it worked out even better as we really had a chance to enjoy the area and the home. We do wish the water was clearer in front of the home but there is not a lot one could do to change that. Carlos and Wilfredo cleaned the beach every morning, brought us cushions, and coconuts! It was a wonderful holiday, and we all hope to go back soon.

We had a nice time! Carlos came to meet us at the airport with a taxi driver to take us to the property. We had 2 families with 8 people in total. It is a long a drive to the property with the last 20 minutes on unpaved road. We do like it as it is private and away from the crowds. This is not a place for you if you want easy access to the city, restaurants, shops, and bars. We were able to catch many fish which became our lunch and dinner one day. It was amazing and delicious!! Judith did a wonderful job cooking every meal. We gave extra money for Carlos to buy beverages, but the main meals were provided. The view each morning was fabulous, but covered with clouds. If it was a sunny day, it would be perfect to see the beautiful sunrise every morning. The highlights were privacy, golf cart access (with a fee), fishing off the deck, Eagle ray, dolphin swimming by, Carlos’s cute little dogs, coconut tree, volleyball net, and swimming pool.
CONS:
We went to Jamaica the previous year the same exact time and enjoy it. The weather, beach, and fruits. That’s why we chose to come to Belize this time expecting the same. The main thing that was bothersome were the mosquitoes!! It was horrible, especially in the morning and sunset. Repellent didn’t really help. I think the property needs to invest in several mosquito repellent/zappers to hang around the property . We thought it wouldn’t be this bad because of the cooler season. My husband who never get bites was devoured by them. He had over 30 bites. My daughter had over 60 bites. The beach right in front of the house was full of seaweed and trash the first day when we got there but Carlos and Wilfredo clean it . There were many trash along the beach next door, which was heartbreaking to see. The beach is not the blue water that you’ll expect. The blue water is about a 5 minute Kayak (only one available) out. There weren’t as many fruit options (which we love) to eat. We also brought our own snacks to eat in between.
We did pay extra to have Mr. Hill organize snorkeling and Caye Caulker trip for us. The trip was memorable and fabulous!! However, our Go Pro with beautiful images we took of the reef, sharks, and manatee was stolen. The boat captain didn’t help us secure or watch our belongings while we were in-town walking in Cay Caulker. Thus, our Go Pro was taken, probably, by a local from our boat. Lesson learned…always have all belongings with you at all time. 😢

What a great little place off the beat n path. Carlos and Judith are AMAZING! We enjoyed everything Judith cooked for us and she was great about accommodating our food dislikes and sensitivity. Carlos is always ready to help out or provide a good laugh.
My best piece of advice is.... rent the golf cart, embrace the bumpy road and get to know the island, the people and everything it has to offer. At the end of the day you will have this peaceful place to come back to and RELAX.

From the moment we arrived in San Pedro we knew we were in good hands. Carlos had been patiently waiting at the airport for several hours due to some delays we ran into getting there. We stopped at the local mart on the way to the house from the airport. TIP: I highly recommend purchasing alcohol from the duty-free shop at the airport before you get to San Pedro. It was more than double the price at the mart in town. The drive to the house via golf cart is a bit long so be prepared. We considered it an adventure! When we got to the house, we were greeted by Wilfredo and Judy. Judy met with us briefly to discuss our meal preferences and asked when she could start our first meal. I must say, every meal she prepared was amazing! From fresh ceviche to homemade pasta, the meals were outstanding! She even fried up the snapper we caught fresh off the dock. There were 6 adults and servings were plenty. We normally even had some leftovers after every meal. Wilfredo was the happiest person I have ever met. He spent hours each morning cleaning up the beach area and always checked in to see if we needed anything. His smile is contagious! Carols and Wilfredo served us fresh Coconuts from the trees on the property. We will deeply miss Carlos, Judy, and Wilfredo. They are without a doubt what made our vacation GREAT! They were very attentive and felt like family by the end of the week. Some of the highlights from our trip were: fishing off the dock, Tranquility Bay, Secret Beach, shopping downtown, snorkeling with Sea Turtles and Nurse Sharks, feeding the Tarpon, drinking at the Truck stop and Sandy Toes, kayaking at the house, and teaching Carlos new card games. We could not decide which couple slept in which bedrooms so we switched rooms every two days, so I got a chance to sleep in all 3 beds and all were comfortable and the AC in each room worked great! Jerry, the owner, was very easy to get in touch with and responded to all my questions and concerns within a few hours. If there had been any issues, I have no doubt he would have addressed them immediately. You will not regret booking with Escape Away Belize! The six of us had an amazing time and we hope to visit again soon!

We highly recommend Escape Away Belize, especially as a family vacation spot in San Pedro, Belize! With more than enough room for our family of six, an infinity pool, private beach-front property, a covered dock to sit out on at the end of a private pier, a market within walking distance for essentials, and 3 delicious home-cooked meals each day included! We would sit out on the covered dock with our coffee each morning and watch dolphins swim by - just an unreal experience all around and the whole family loved it. Carlos is on top of everything, even showing up within 5 minutes when our golf cart got a flat tire, and Judy and Paula make delicious meals. Only a 20 min golf cart ride from the junction to Secret Beach, and about a 40 min golf cart ride back into San Pedro if you want to head into the city. For snorkeling excursions (ask when you book to talk to Mr. Hill from No Worries Tours about planning excursions - he’s the best) they pick you up and drop you off right at your dock! Thanks Carlos and Judy for helping give us an amazing family vacation and wonderful memories at Escape Away Belize!

Pros:
Air conditioning was amazing and kept us comfortable
Beds were comfortable
Pool was well maintained and the grounds were beautiful.
Bathroom amenities were great
We did utilize the washer and that helped us to not over pack.
Carlos worked hard and we enjoyed interacting with him. Pick up and drop off at the airport is a plus.
The dock and beach were not private as in the VRBO description and often times golf carts brought groups of folks who fished off the docks and kids played on the beach. This was something we did not expect, and when we asked Carlos, he said the dock and Palapa and beach were public during the day.
We did not rent a golf cart as we were staying close to town after we left your place.
We asked about the boat and captain mentioned in the description to take us where we wanted to go, for a fee, and someone Carlos knew came by to talk about taking us out to the reef, but said he could not take just the two of us.
Cons: I hate this, but this is what will keep us from coming back.
The meals were not as described. Carlos told us Judy had had surgery and was not able to cook, so her Mom Poula was stepping in. We briefly, in passing finally had an opportunity to talk with Judy on our second day to discuss our likes and dislikes, as Poula did not speak English. There was no more communication or offerings of what we wanted to eat.
We said we liked everything except onions. The best meal was a shrimp ceviche Poula made us for lunch on our second day. It was good, and when I asked for her to make it again when our friends arrived she was happy to, however she served the 4 of us the same amount she served the two of us.
We had shrimp a few times, chicken most times and no fresh caught fish. We had hamburger mini tacos twice (4 tiny tacos per person) for dinner it was just not enough food. Breakfast had fresh fruit, but we had very few fresh vegetables. There was no communication as to what we would like to eat daily, in fact there was very little communication when it came to our meals. There was no communication in what we wanted to eat that day as described, we got what ever they decided to serve.
Again the portions left us hungry. I don’t know if they had a limited budget to work with, but the “chef” part was a disappointment.
There were no snacks provided as described.
We wish we could say better things about the meals, they just did not meet the VRBO description

After looking at this property for years, our extended family of six got to stay here for six days. Jerry is a great communicator and helps book your Tropic Air flight. Carlos, the property manager, meets you at the airport and will bring you to the house. Due to the location, I highly recommend renting the on-site golf cart. Dorita, the chef, is an amazing and flexible cook. Everything was incredible. Beds were comfortable, small stores were just a two minute drive away (don’t walk due to bugs) and Carlos snd Jerry will have No Worries Tours stop by the day after you arrive to help with adventures. This makes your trip so low stress and easy. We highly recommend the all day fishing and snorkel. Great having the pool right there and the team goes above and beyond to take care of you, clean the beach of the sea grass and majestic sure you have a great va again.

We just spent 6 days at escape away!
This is a true gem. If you are looking for a perfect, relaxing island escape… look no further. Communication with the owner and property manager were prompt and super easy, making it a carefree experience.
There were 8 of us total, 6 adults and 2 kids (age 8 and 11). My husband and I like to rent little places throughout the islands and explore new places the local way. This trip, the whole family joined. We are a family that travels a good bit, usually all inclusives (because it’s easy with bigger groups) and we decided to try something different this year. We are all so glad we did this!! It was perfect in every way.
The pool is AMAZING! The palapa is an awesome touch as well. The sargassum was bad when we visited but, we expected it and won’t ruin your trip whatsoever. Carlos is great and so friendly, despite that his wife Judy was ill during our visit. Her sister, Larissa (I hope I spelled that right), stood in for her and prepared yummy food for us everyday!!
If we had any complaints, it’s only that the home is 8 miles from the main town… lots of it down a long, bumpy dirt road. Some of us didn’t mind it, just endured it each ride around. Others weren’t totally against it, just didn’t prefer it. The mosquitoes are also WILD, bug spray and all… they ate us up. Nothing the hosts can really do about this, they do try.!
We had SO, SO MUCH FUN!! We are already looking to return. Thank you escape away for sharing your piece of paradise with the Hurt/Hilton crew!

7 Days of Paradise
The house is great: right on the beach, beautiful view, everything worked well.
Carlos picked us up, showed us the way - so as not to get lost when on our own - introduced us to Larisa and the 3 dogs. We love dogs. Relaxed on the porch, by the pool, on the pier. Went snorkling on the reef with a tour one day, fished off the pier, one of our group tried to paddle to the reef with a kayak but the wind and waves were too strong against us. The wind quieted a few days at the end of the week. Following Carlos' lead, he and I both caught large jacks off the dock. Saw an eagle ray, sand ray, hawkbill turtle, and lots of fish right from the dock. Swam off the pier and in the pool. Would recommend to everyone and would return in the future. This house is a little far from town, but there are three small stores very close by. Just bring the golf cart anytime near dusk to outrun the mosquitos - they travel in clouds and love American blood. Purchased some carved wood items at the artisan's market on back street, ate at Elvi's, enjoyed driving a golf cart around. Carlos and Larisa were laid back, easy to work with. Don't hesitate: stay here.

Amazing stay. Beautiful property. Sad to leave.
I cannot recommend this property enough. Absolutely gorgeous and had everything my family needed and more. Carlos and Judy are perfect hosts and were so generous with us and especially our children. We will be back as soon as possible because of them. Thank you for everything.

Pros:
We loved Carlos and Nancy! Carlos picked us up from the airport and was so welcoming and sweet. He took us to the market on the way home to buy what we wanted to stock up on (beer, snacks) and encouraged us to stop on the way to the house at the stand for rum coconuts at a road side vendor and they were delicious and so much fun. Nancy’s meals were always delicious and plentiful. They both did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The “convenience stores” nearby are very helpful for necessities- beer, ice, snacks.
The beds are very comfortable. The shower works great. The pool is perfect. The A/C works fabulous and will freeze you out if you want.
Carlos arranged a great excursion for us that picked us up at our pier and took us to Shark Alley and Hol Chan marina.… both spots were amazing.
The dogs- Socks, Miley, and Chewy were super sweet and fun to play with every day.
The WiFi works great!
Jerry was really helpful making reservations for flights from Belize City to San Pedro. He always responded promptly and with offers to help.
Cons:
The mosquitos….They are ubiquitous and unrelenting. We were diligent about bug spray and still ended up covered in bites.(20-30 each!)
The drive from the airport and back to any civilization is very long. The road is very primitive, rough terrain, and you are traveling on a golf cart. It is bumpy, stinky, and dirty. It was raining when we left on our last day, and we literally wrung the water out of our clothes when we got to the airport.
During our visit the seaweed was very heavy on the beach…usually 4-6 feet wide at the shore. They were working hard to clear it but could never really make a good dent in it. That makes the beach inaccessible. (This is supposed to be a seasonal isssue, so maybe inquire about it?)
There also was a woodpecker every morning at 5:30am that woke us up pecking on the house. Luckily we brought ear plugs, so we plugged and went back to sleep, but still an annoyance.
Overview:
It is possible to have a great vacation here, but set your expectations realistically.
1- don’t plan on beach access at the property. Float in the pool and look at the beach.
2- understand the distance and difficulty of travel outside the property . Plan on travel by boat when possible for comfort.
3- prepare for lots of mosquitos
We still had a great time, but thought these were the things people might want to know ahead.

First and foremost, Carlos and Judy were the highlight of our visit to Escape Away in Belize. The house and grounds were very nice. Judy's meals were tasty. The scenery from the house was beautiful. The water and shoreline were really not accessible or inviting due to persistent washed up sea grass which occurs this time of year. Carlos and his crew did their best to clear the sea grass everyday but it was a never ending task. It certainly did not ruin the trip but it was a an unexpected disappointment. The other unexpected distraction was getting around. I enjoyed driving the golf cart for our transportation needs but the roads are riddled with pot holes in places and a bit of a chore. We enjoyed our daily trip to the Blue Bayou for drinks and lunch. Blue Bayou is located at the not so secret "Secret Beach" . We really relaxed. The weather was not great but it fit with our desire to take it easy for a few days. We did a full day excursion with No Worries Tours. The weather was the worst that day but Erick our excursion guide worked hard to make the day memorable, in a good way. We plan to return to Escape Away again in the Winter time when the sea grass is not an issue. Bring bug spray. Not a persistent problem but it was good to have it the few times it was needed.

Great stay
The beach house has a homey feel. It was adequate for all our needs. The pier was a great place to sit in the evenings enjoying the nice breeze. What made this a great location and a great trip was Carlos and Judith. They were always available, helpful, and friendly. We enjoyed spending time with them both at the beach house and in town. Judith is a great cook and pampered us. Definitely worth going for them! There is a nice pool and nice white sand. Oh the dogs are soo adorable. Enjoyed their company as well. There is alot of seaweed in the water but Carlos is working hard to clear it. Would definitely stay again.
