About this condo rental
Located in Hilo, this attractive condo for $150 per night is a great option for your next break. Our villa is on the 3rd (top) floor, with a large lanai (patio) overlooking the pool area. Our living room has a vaulted ceiling and an overhead fan, with sliding doors going out to the lanai. Our unit has one good sized bedroom, a full kitchen, and a bathroom. There is a full size sofa sleeper in the living room. It is a corner unit with lots of natural light, and a nice tropical breeze through the unit. The complex is on the Wailoa River, not the ocean. Ocean is about 1/2 mile away :) This is a 3 story walk up.

To unit itself was okay and about as good as it could be for that complex. If you are seeking very basic lodging in Central Hilo, this is ideal! The cover photo of a beautiful group of structures on a waterfront point is a little deceiving. Those structures on the water are commercial buildings. The apartment complex is behind these, not on the water.

The owner provided one night refund but no taxes/fees. If staying in Hilo, rent elsewhere. This was cheap, but awful. Communication with owner was hostile from her end unfortunately to make a bad situation worse. We've travelled the world extensively and don't stay in hotels. This looked good but was awful. Would love to upload true photos, but the site doesn't provide that opportunity it seems.

I always choose a VRBO when I go to Hilo because I prefer to feel like part of the community rather than a tourist. Great communication from property manager from the beginning. She even accommodated a change in my stay very promptly. Also, the property manager does not have excessive demands when you leave the unit, just basic cleaning that anyone should do anyway. :-)
The complex is well maintained, quiet, and the other residents were very friendly. The unit is clean and updated with a beautiful view of the pool and courtyard. The kitchen has everything you will need if you choose to cook your meals there. It is also very close to restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores. Like most units in Hilo there is no central heat or AC, but the ceiling fan in the vaulted living room and fan they provide in the bedroom keep the air circulating nicely. There was plenty of room for me in the bedroom and my daughter slept on the surprisingly comfortable fold out couch. I would definitely stay there again!

Then you are greeted with stained hallway carpets... hoping at least your unit is nice. You get inside, seems nice; the next day you see a roach; the next day several roaches of varying size. You head straight to the hardware store and spray everything... you also let the host know. The invasion stops but I can't sleep. That night some large rodent creepy thing was crawling around in the ceiling above your bed. As soon as the sun was up I was out of there; a day early but I couldn't take the stress. So much for my first visit to Hawaii. BTW, all of downtown Hilo is old and dirty ( stay out of town! ). Aloha

We stayed for a month and had a car for only 2 weeks of the time there. We were able to buy food and enjoy Hilo on foot as well as enjoy the island by car. This property is perfect for doing that. The setting, next to both State and Municipal parks and walking distance to the beach areas made for a very pleasant stay. The property complex is undergoing renovations now and efforts to improve the whole of it will just enhance anyone's future experience. The pool was great, the apartment had a nice view of the pool from the big balcony.

Relaxing month near Hilo
We stayed for a month and had a car for only 2 weeks of the time there. We were able to buy food and enjoy Hilo on foot as well as enjoy the island by car. This property is perfect for doing that. The setting, next to both State and Municipal parks and walking distance to the beach areas made for a very pleasant stay. Straightforward place for great price
This a simple unit with the basics for a good low-cost place to stay when spending some days touring Hilo area and Volcanic National Park. There's no air conditioning in unit, and not sure if it was the humid weather, but the unit did have a slight musty smell. We just kept the air purifier and fans going and that worked fine. The complex is not in a touristy area and is a mix of local working people and some other visitors. Everyone we ran into were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the deck and also evening swims in the pool. The complex is aging but still has charm with its stream with fish running through it and nice mature tropical trees and plant landscaping. The owner Marlene was great to work with.

This was my first stay here and I hope to return. The location was very convenient to downtown Hilo and beach parks. The complex has well-lighted parking and was surprisingly quiet and serene . The unit was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. I do not have any suggestions for changes, and hope to return when conditions permit travel. 🤙🏼🤗

The apartment was exactly as advertised. It was very nice to have a place of our own. Good parking. We loved sitting on the balcony. The pool was an added bonus. We enjoyed our stay.
