Kim was great host. House was fine. Kitchen could be updated, better silverware provided, but otherwise just great!

We had a terrific visit to La Jolla in the Pearl Street house. The house was just as advertised: great location, very clean, easy place to live for the week. The owner was super attentive and kind. We really had a great time. No surprises no complaints.

We had a wonderful time during our week in La Jolla. The cottage gave us a relaxing, roomy space to rest, entertain local family, walk to dining, the grocery store, pharmacy. A local fish market just up the street and 3 min to the beach. A walk around the neighborhood shows you that this is a relatively safe part of town to stay. Kim has thought of nearly everything and it was really nice to have a kitchen with all the necessary tools to prep a meal. The fan works great to move the air around and the AC was rarely needed as the weather was just right. The back yard is small but relaxing with the L shaped sofa and the picnic table. We barbecued tuna steaks we got at El Pescadero’s up the street and wow! All we needed was a little sea salt and cracked pepper to feast in the backyard. The washer and dryer was super handy and although we didn’t use them, there were bikes and boogie boards, chairs, towels - anything you need to enjoy the beach or travel around town. The beds were fine and the linens crisp and clean. The towels were plentiful and always handy. We loved our stay at this sweet cottage that feels a little like staying at Grandma’s.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at this cottage for a week. It was a safe and convenient home base to explore this part of San Diego, on a quiet end of the street. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower was very nice. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, though we really did not cook. The best part is the location. It is a very short walk to both Marine Street beach to walk in the sand, swim (they went in the water, too cold for me), and watch volleyball players and body boarders. But it was also a few minutes walk to the tide pool beach where my daughter loved to see crabs, starfish. We walked everywhere, to the restaurants down the same street (try the Taco Stand and El Pescdor and The Cottage for breakfast), Catholic church (15 minutes), DG Wills eccentric bookstore, Baskin Robbins practically across the street, cafes, La Jolla Cove to see sea lions. We drove about 20 minutes to Balboa Park (did not hit traffic all week), restaurant in North Park, bird sanctuary in Del Mar. And to come home to turn right into the carport without having to look for parking, put on sweats and settle into the cozy couch to read or watch YouTube (casted from our phone). It was great to be able to do laundry (we bought some soap). The backyard is nice for lounging, quiet and peaceful. The heat worked well and was easy to turn off and on when we got home. Kim was lovely to work with. Would stay again. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautify home!

This is a stand-alone house near the beach, making it a rarity to begin with. The kitchen is dated, but functional, and Kim is a joy to work with. The location is amazing, a couple of blocks from a beach and the cove. Strongly recommend!

This served our needs as a family with young children traveling with our dog perfectly! We previously lived in SD so we’re very familiar with how to get around and time traffic, but easy enough for someone unfamiliar with the area. The overall functionality of the amenities far outweighed the drawbacks and a great deal for renting an entire house.
Pros: five minutes walking from both beach and tide pools; multiple food options walkable, grocery stores (Von’s & CVS) a short drive or longer walk if carrying items; Costco (including gas) and Trader Joe’s are about 15 minutes drive (without traffic); a full kitchen and laundry facilities; a back patio secluded from the street for eating, relaxing or just drying wet items; time traffic and it’s an easy drive down into PB/Mission Bay & major attractions like Sea World and the world famous San Diego Zoo; covered parking/carport shared with owner (street parking can be tough); new/big tv with streaming services provided; relatively quiet neighborhood and safe enough to not worry about walking the dog at night.
Cons: it’s an older house, so almost everything is dated; no AC and the whole house fan, while helpful, does have some limitations, so set expectations accordingly (we went in summer so no need to use the old/clunky looking wall mounted, floor level heaters); the electrical system can easily be overloaded, with breaker reset process included in welcome instructions; I found the mattress in the master far too firm to sleep comfortably, but that’s subjective; loud/dangerous driving can easily be heard in the area at night; being that close to the beach, street parking can be tough to come by if you need more than the provided carport; the PA system/music of a nearby comedy club can easily travel very loudly at night.
All in all, this is a great location to use as a base to enjoy the area from, especially if you treat it like a vacation hotel and primarily use it to sleep, eat breakfast/ dinner and reset between excursions, except it comes with much more space to relax and spread out than any hotel. Plus, being pet friendly was a very important factor for us!

Great location in La Jolla
This property worked out great for a week long family of 5 vacation. Centrally located in La Jolla within walking distance to the ocean, restaurants, and close enough to all that San Diego has to offer. The only reason for the 4-stars under the accuracy of listing is the pictures didn't give us an overall layout as to the bedroom and bathroom locations prior to arrival. Overall, great size house for a family of five to enjoy all La Jolla has to offer. I would definitely rent again!

Clean house in a great location
I really enjoyed my stay at this beautiful La Jolla house. The host, Kim, was wonderful to work with. Two days before my trip my dog had an injury and my dog sitter was not comfortable with giving him pills and I wanted my dog with me. I messaged Kim and she answered within a few hours and allowed me to pay the pet fee and bring my dog with. This was a trip saver for me.
As for the house, I think there are some areas that need to be upgraded because it is getting older.
Pros:
Very clean house. I was impressed with how clean the house was when I first walked in.
I appreciated all of the cooking supplies.
Close to everything. There are three ways to get to the beach from the house that do not require driving and the longest is only about a 7 minute walk. There are a lot of food options also within walking distance. The grocery store is about four lights up and there is a CVS really close that has free customer parking. The gas station at the corner had some of the lowest gas prices that I saw in CA.
The host provided supplies for the beach which were very handy.
Here are my cons:
The front room only has two small end table lights that do not do much good at night. It would be nice to see a ceiling fan/light combo added to all of the rooms as only the master bedroom has a ceiling fan.
The kitchen is missing drinking cups and cereal bowls. There were six small cups that were starting to crack and five glass cups. I think there were only four cereal bowls. It would have been nice to have a bigger seasoning selection for cooking and oil. All that was provided were salt and pepper, but this is me being nitpicky.
The cleaning supplies were limited; there were no replacement garbage bags, two kitchen hand towels, only enough mopping solution to do about half the floors, only four rolls of toilet paper for four people and seven days. There were only 3 full size bath towels for four people.
The lights were burned out in the hall and the light above the kitchen sink.
The big question is would I stay here again, and I think I would. The house is clean and in a great location. The cleaning supplies are limited and the few towels and TP are livable and I can buy that stuff at the store.

This house is a just a short walk to the La Jolla beach and the wonderful promenade above the beach. And it's also a short walk to many good restaurants on Pearl Strest and elsewhere in La Jolla Village. It was a comfortable old house and we really enjoyed our stay. Spacious and comes with most things you'll need.

Amazing location, spacious unit
This unit is one of the few stand alone houses that you will that is available to rent on the beach side of La Jolla Boulevard. Kim was a pleasure to work with and the house is spacious and clean, with wood floors running through much of it. The location cannot be beat, within a few blocks of Marine Beach and the cove.

Kim's rental is a mid-century beach house in a great location near White Sands Beach and within a short stroll of everything in La Jolla village. Kim's great to work with, the house is cozy and spacious, and the included off street parking is a huge bonus!

Cozy and really great location
This place was great for our family. Amazing location and spacious older house with a nice backyard. They also have beach chairs and toys as well as nicely equipped kitchen with all we need to feel home. The host was always very helpful and gave us all information we needed for a great stay.

I am reluctant to share how wonderful this place is because it might be booked the next time we want to stay. The house was perfect with we needed and including bonus beach towels, beach chairs, and a great back yard to rinse off after the beach. The neighborhood is close to the beach, quiet, and close to tons of places within walking distance for food or shopping. So very sad to leave!

This property was perfect for our family of 7. It was larger than we thought it would be. Location to the beach was a short 3-5 min walk. Location in La Jolla is close to everything. Awesome that boogie boards, chairs, toys, cooler and towels were available. Parking was good in carport. We stayed in August. The weather was perfect. It did get warm in the house. The window AC unit didn’t work well, but opening windows & running the fans helped a great deal. Mattresses weren’t great, but we would definitely stay here again.

We would definitely stay here again. Two bedroom, each with queen bed plus sleeper sofa in living room. Great deck area in rear for kids to play. Probably 10 min walk to beach. There are beach things at the house for use....boogie boards, kids sand bucket, ice chest, beach chair, etc.. which was a great touch.. Many eating places are a short walk. Sammy's Woodfired Pizza place is good. Pannikin Takeout at Pearl & Girard Street is fantastic for outdoor sitting with great coffee and the breakfast tacos are excellent. Host Kim was very responsive during our stay and answered all our questions!

Best place to stay in San Diego
Renting this property was our best decision on our family’s trip to San Diego! It was well equipped to prepare our own meals, had great access to the beach (plus a variety of beach related necessities), and was extremely comfortable. The pristine community of La Jolla was a treat to traverse, and this property was no exception. We felt safe on the quiet street, and it was an added bonus to be able to park our car in a covered carport. We look forward to coming to stay again!

LaJolla....i say La Joy...ah!
Everything about the stay was perfect, not least of which was the hostess. She was accommodating and available to us as needed. We had six of us, 2 adults and 4, 15-16 year olds. The four of them shared a room with a queen and a pull out couch even though there was another in the living room? Kids! We used the kitchen throughout and it had just what we needed as far as plates and pots and pans.
The location of this place was absolutely awesome, 5 minutes to the beach with plenty of access, and 5 minutes to downtown Lajolla and ancillary shops and restaurants were close in. LaJolla open air market is close and an amazing place to go for fresh foods, and locally made items. I also had the best ceviche there I have ever had!
If you are on the fence at all about this place....BOOK IT! Just awesome all the way around.

Hidden gem in La Jolla
This cute house is certainly dated and has a lot of original 1950s features but was clean, spacious enough for our family, and the location can’t be beat with close beach access. The owner was responsive to our requests and look forward to staying here again.
