Kim was great host. House was fine. Kitchen could be updated, better silverware provided, but otherwise just great!

We had a terrific visit to La Jolla in the Pearl Street house. The house was just as advertised: great location, very clean, easy place to live for the week. The owner was super attentive and kind. We really had a great time. No surprises no complaints.

We had a wonderful time during our week in La Jolla. The cottage gave us a relaxing, roomy space to rest, entertain local family, walk to dining, the grocery store, pharmacy. A local fish market just up the street and 3 min to the beach. A walk around the neighborhood shows you that this is a relatively safe part of town to stay. Kim has thought of nearly everything and it was really nice to have a kitchen with all the necessary tools to prep a meal. The fan works great to move the air around and the AC was rarely needed as the weather was just right. The back yard is small but relaxing with the L shaped sofa and the picnic table. We barbecued tuna steaks we got at El Pescadero’s up the street and wow! All we needed was a little sea salt and cracked pepper to feast in the backyard. The washer and dryer was super handy and although we didn’t use them, there were bikes and boogie boards, chairs, towels - anything you need to enjoy the beach or travel around town. The beds were fine and the linens crisp and clean. The towels were plentiful and always handy. We loved our stay at this sweet cottage that feels a little like staying at Grandma’s.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at this cottage for a week. It was a safe and convenient home base to explore this part of San Diego, on a quiet end of the street. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower was very nice. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, though we really did not cook. The best part is the location. It is a very short walk to both Marine Street beach to walk in the sand, swim (they went in the water, too cold for me), and watch volleyball players and body boarders. But it was also a few minutes walk to the tide pool beach where my daughter loved to see crabs, starfish. We walked everywhere, to the restaurants down the same street (try the Taco Stand and El Pescdor and The Cottage for breakfast), Catholic church (15 minutes), DG Wills eccentric bookstore, Baskin Robbins practically across the street, cafes, La Jolla Cove to see sea lions. We drove about 20 minutes to Balboa Park (did not hit traffic all week), restaurant in North Park, bird sanctuary in Del Mar. And to come home to turn right into the carport without having to look for parking, put on sweats and settle into the cozy couch to read or watch YouTube (casted from our phone). It was great to be able to do laundry (we bought some soap). The backyard is nice for lounging, quiet and peaceful. The heat worked well and was easy to turn off and on when we got home. Kim was lovely to work with. Would stay again. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautify home!

This is a stand-alone house near the beach, making it a rarity to begin with. The kitchen is dated, but functional, and Kim is a joy to work with. The location is amazing, a couple of blocks from a beach and the cove. Strongly recommend!

This served our needs as a family with young children traveling with our dog perfectly! We previously lived in SD so we’re very familiar with how to get around and time traffic, but easy enough for someone unfamiliar with the area. The overall functionality of the amenities far outweighed the drawbacks and a great deal for renting an entire house. Pros: five minutes walking from both beach and tide pools; multiple food options walkable, grocery stores (Von’s & CVS) a short drive or longer walk if carrying items; Costco (including gas) and Trader Joe’s are about 15 minutes drive (without traffic); a full kitchen and laundry facilities; a back patio secluded from the street for eating, relaxing or just drying wet items; time traffic and it’s an easy drive down into PB/Mission Bay & major attractions like Sea World and the world famous San Diego Zoo; covered parking/carport shared with owner (street parking can be tough); new/big tv with streaming services provided; relatively quiet neighborhood and safe enough to not worry about walking the dog at night. Cons: it’s an older house, so almost everything is dated; no AC and the whole house fan, while helpful, does have some limitations, so set expectations accordingly (we went in summer so no need to use the old/clunky looking wall mounted, floor level heaters); the electrical system can easily be overloaded, with breaker reset process included in welcome instructions; I found the mattress in the master far too firm to sleep comfortably, but that’s subjective; loud/dangerous driving can easily be heard in the area at night; being that close to the beach, street parking can be tough to come by if you need more than the provided carport; the PA system/music of a nearby comedy club can easily travel very loudly at night. All in all, this is a great location to use as a base to enjoy the area from, especially if you treat it like a vacation hotel and primarily use it to sleep, eat breakfast/ dinner and reset between excursions, except it comes with much more space to relax and spread out than any hotel. Plus, being pet friendly was a very important factor for us!
