Amazing House, so much character. More than enough room for large family meals and gatherings. My family really enjoyed it. Having no snow was a disappointment, but we will try again another year. Thank you

There were 16 of us and we had plenty of room. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms clean. The kitchen is small and not well appointed.

Host very responsive and accommodating. The front porch was a great gathering place as the weather was warm. The antiques in the house are amazing! Already talking of going back again next fall!

The house is beautifully furnished. It was impeccable. Themed antiques and decorations adorn the house. The Sawyer Mansion was perfect for our group of 12 and we had a memorable stay. The house was by far our favorite in the past 5 years. Having private bathrooms for each bedroom was convenient. The dining room comfortably fit our group for meals. The jacuzzi was clean and we used the Weber grill during our stay. The house is conveniently located as wel took day trips to Bennington, Brattleboro and Manchester as well as local villages. The house is full of character and we would definitely come here again.

The property needs some love. Furnishings were very unique but uncomfortable. Seems like too much clutter. Was disappointed in the fact we were told not to wear shoes in the house and a note asking for tip money for the cleaning people. We went kayaking and one of the kayaks had two holes that caused water to enter. Very dangerous and scary situation to say the least. All showers taken were lukewarm at best. My husband and I stayed in the Italy room and bath was clogged. Water filled up over our ankles.
Would love to come back and stay after improvements are made. Great area for fishing, hiking and enjoying time with friends.

This site was perfect for our family gathering. We love to cook and the kitchen was good size and well appointed with dishes and cookware. The yard was large for games/yoga/evening fire circle. Many places to sit and gather inside the house. Check in was very easy. Communication with property manager during our stay was excellent. We had a wonderful time and hope to return.

While the house was big enough to hold our family of 13, there were too many "little things" that were below standard. The hot water was luke warm at best, mostly cold. The outside dumpster was insecure and raided 3 times by bears that we cleaned up. There was no propane for the Weber grill. There is not one comfortable chair in the entire house, all old with the comfort worn out. It was very difficult getting into the cayaks given the location of the pontoon boat. The pontoon boat was unkempt and dirty surrounded by lily pads, make swimming for our grandchildren impossible. I would recommend that the owners make the appropriate upgrades as this rental was not worth the money I paid. The hot tub water was uncared for and lacked the proper chemicals needed for safe use.
PS Have no idea what the review stars I checked were for as checking was required to submit this review and there was no indication of what the stars were related to. Ignore the "checked stars" of my review.

I dont typically leave reviews. However, this was a weekend unlike any other.
The house was very easy to find.
Its a big place, with a lot of character and plenty of room for everyone. The middle floor seemed to be the place for all of the adults. 5 suites on the middle floor. 1 suite on the main floor. The top floor was perfect for the kids. (Bring a gaming console. The tv is huge and the kids had a blast up there.) We enjoyed the hot tub, and the fire pit at night.
There is a very spacious yard. We were able to fit a 30x45 tent, and have a separate ceremony area. And there was plenty of parking. We had the bakery down the road cater. (North River Bakery) HIGHLY recommend it. Shelly (the owner) does a fantastic job.
We also got to enjoy the lake. A friend was able to bring his bass boat over to the launch and park it at the dock. That was a nice touch. There are also kayaks that Chris has available for guest use.
Chris was a gracious host and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and a great stay.
Best wedding weekend ever. Seriously. No one wanted to leave.

This property is a wonderful place for a large group. There is plenty of room to "escape" your family if need be as well! Six Master Bedrooms have their own full baths. Third floor playroom has plenty of room to stretch out and watch the big screen TV! The land is beautiful. We were up in the winter, had 20 inches of snow the second day of our stay, and the property manager was right on top of keeping us plowed while we were there. Kitchen is filled with anything necessary to keep everyone well fed. Very warm and cozy home filled with much history. Closest town with shops, restaurants, etc. is about 15 minutes away. We will definitely be back again and wish to thank our host and property manager for making our stay so comfortable and memorable.

The house was great and perfect for our family get together we hosted there! The surrounding area is gorgeous and the house is huge and well furnished. Had some fun kayaking on the lake, relaxing in the hot tub, and just running around in the yard with the little ones.
We had a minor issue with hot water the first morning that Chris quickly addressed, other than that everything went smoothly. Thanks again Chris!

Perfect wonderful house for a staff retreat.
Lots of space, fully stocked with everything you would need for cooking, and fun amenities. All was terrific. If I had any complaints, it was about things that the owner can’t control… The 24 hour noise from the gravel pit and the weedy pond that made swimming unappealing. As I said, nothing that the owner can do anything about but might be helpful to know about. Thank you! We would definitely come again!

This was a great getaway spot for us this summer. A large bunch of family and friends get together every year and it's difficult to find a place to accommodate us all. This place was perfect. Plenty of bedrooms with their own bathrooms, lots of room to spread out, all sorts of interesting rooms to gather in, great front porch and balcony to sit and drink your morning coffee and Chris was super responsive. We would definitely recommend this unique, historic property!

We had such a great weekend at this house! We were celebrating my husband’s birthday with friends and family, including kids between 7 months and 5 years old. The layout of the house made it so easy for us to spread out and accommodate all of our different sleep schedules. The backyard and fire pit were great and the lake and kayaks were super fun. Everything was really clean and as listed online. I’d definitely recommend this for other groups!

Girls Getaway
It was the perfect spot for our girls getaway, plenty of clean, comfortable beds and bathrooms and wonderful gathering spaces. The kitchen was well stocked with many basics and the welcome gift of flowers and assorted snacks was very much appreciated. All correspondence with the owner was answered promptly. We would definitely keep this property in mind when planning our next getaway.

we are 4 families big group staying here in Feb break for a ski trip in mt Snow. Before we checked in, I was not sure why this place has such a high rating. then we found out that this is one of the most unique rental houses we've been, 8 bedrooms are decorated by 8 different countries' culture, and it's very clean and maintained very good. The owner Chris a nice guy, he replied my msg within a min when i have questions. Highly recommend this place and we will come back.

We spent New Years here with two other families, and it was perfect! The house is gorgeous and we appreciated the holiday decorations that added to the homey feel. The house is enormous which worked out wonderfully with a large group because there were multiple gathering places, and plenty of room for people to get alone time. We also really appreciated the little things like wood for the fire pit, and the heated pads to the hot tub were a nice touch. We're already talking about going back. Love this place!

It was a unique experience for kids to live in a Victorian house. The house was fully equipped with amenities including complimentary wine in the kitchen. Well thought out. The only downside i can think of is slow drain in the shower tub.

We spent a lovely week in this spacious mansion -- 7 of us spanning 3 generations. The bedrooms are well appointed - and what a luxury that each bedroom we occupied was accompanied by an attached bathroom! The teens enjoyed the 3rd floor "rec room" while the adults spent time relaxing on the front porch for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine. The lake, a very short walk across the street, provided a peaceful, quiet setting for paddling. We were grateful for the use of the kayaks provided. We launched these and the stand up paddle boards and canoe we brought with us right from the small dock on the lakeside property. We enjoyed strolling through the charming town of Wilmington just a short drive away. Chris was easy to work with and available to answer any questions throughout our stay. I will note that cell service is very spotty, but we did not mind the opportunity to unplug and truly relax.

For the price and all the bedrooms with private baths, large spaces and yard, cleanliness and proximity to lake activities, we gave it five stars. Chris was always helpful and we took full advantage of the quiet lake on kayaks, fishing and a little swimming (no beach). The town of Wilmington is a charming outing, with bigger lake options. Hiking part of the Appalachian trail nearby was one checked off the bucket list! The old home is not perfect for our elders, but was doable. Third floor gaming area was handy for our toddler and young adults. Interesting fancy old furniture and decor that may not best choice for families with active children. I stayed in the French room which was lovely with a great bed!

This house is super unique. Tons of room for our friend group. Hot tub and yard were great! Host was quick to respond to messages. House was well stocked. The lake was great, just have to get through a few lily pads to get a good swim in.
