About this house rental
Please, note...we only book full weeks during high season, with Saturday as our change over day. We do take partial stays in the shoulder and off season. Please note: SoundHouse does not provide linens. Bring your own sheets for 2 queen beds, 1 single, towels and personal pillows. There are blankets, pillows, bed spreads and kitchen linens furnished for your use. Also, please note there are NO POWER BOATS allowed at SoundHouse. IF YOU BRING ONE, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REMOVE IT. Do not store or charge electric bikes on the property. Also, please check all our house rules before booking. Soundhouse is a sweet, vintage cottage on the usually quiet North Pond with it’s own sandy beach. SoundHouse has been owned by the same local family since 1972. The owner resides nearby. It features a shady front porch and a back porch with a great beautiful waterfront view, overlooking your own little sandy beach. Great for kayaking, paddle boarding, an easy walk to ferry, museum, restaurants, shopping and “downtown” waterfront with fabulous sunset views. Limited to four people, no pets, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 queen beds, one twin, a large open plan kitchen, dining and living area. There is an outdoor shower and washer/dryer, but experience old Ocracoke by washing your dishes by hand, no dishwasher! Parking for two vehicles. Enjoy the soundside beach but please respect neighbor’s beachfront property lines, it’s not a community beach. No power or sailboats. Smoking is not allowed inside SoundHouse. Smoking is allowed outside in the yard only. Events and large parties are NOT allowed in SoundHouse. All guests of SoundHouse are STRONGLY urged to purchase cancellation insurance when you book through VRBO. Things happen. You want to be protected. The cottage was perfect for the three of us. The back yard on the sound was wonderful. Debbie was helpful with a couple questions we had. The only thing that was a disappointment was the outdoor shower. It was lacking hot water and water pressure. Some in our group really enjoy the outdoor shower while on a beach vacation.

What a wonderful place! The minute you walk-in the front door you are greeted with windows that look out into the Sound. Such a serene feeling! The house was perfectly clean and had everything we needed. TV & Wi-Fi worked well and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic!
My son & I absolutely loved being able to walk out into the water and playing on the little sound side beach. There are lots of hermit crabs to watch play out there! Watching the boats come & go was also a fun way to pass some time.
The house is close enough to walk or bike to anywhere in town. We spent many nights walking to the ice cream shops & T-shirt stores.
We had a great time at the Soundhouse and would suggest it to anyone looking for a great spot on the water!

This spot is great for anyone, but perhaps especially families, as there's a calm private beach area for kids to swim in and walkin' distance to the action is very straightforward.

First off, this was the cleanest rental I've ever booked. The location is ideal - minutes from restaurants, sites, shops, etc - but down a sweet, quiet residential street. The beds were very comfortable and the shower had amazing water pressure. Back porch and yard were lovely with nature all around, places to sit and a view. If you bring a paddle board or kayak, head around the jetty for amazing sunsets. 10 out of 10 in my opinion!

We love Ocracoke, and this house was perfect for our vacation. Close to everything (we rented a golf cart) but quiet street with beautiful sound views. We loved coming home from a day on the beach and getting to still enjoy the swimming, fishing, and views in front of the house. The house was super clean and I loved the simple decor. Thankful for the washer/dryer and the outdoor clothesline for wet suits and towels. Shower pressure inside was wonderful, outdoor shower was kind of a disappointment but did the job of hosing off sand. Beds were comfy and plenty of space to set suitcases/ groceries/ etc. We plan to rent this house again next summer- thank you for sharing it with us!

We really enjoyed our stay at this house. The location was just perfect. Having the sound right outside our back door to look at and kayak and paddleboard in was awesome. It was also an easy walk or bike ride to anything in town.

We absolutely loved calling Sound House "HOME" for two weeks! From the minute we walked in our unforgettable vacation started. Sound House has a cheerful vibe with a beautiful view. We were thankful for the sunshade on the backporch - great spot for morning coffee and afternoon drinks. The sound front beach is a great place to launch kayaks and to fish. Upon arrival the house was spotless. Debbie was quick to respond to a couple of questions we had during our stay. Sound House left us with great memories!
*Word of advice~always lock the outdoor shower so you don't wake up in the middle of the night asking, "WHAT is that banging?!"

The house was very nice. Clean, spacious, great water pressure in the shower. Enjoyed the covered porch and the arondeck chairs by the water. Having the sound view and a little beach made it all the more enjoyable. Would not hesitate to rent again.

Nice cottage on the sound -- clean, spacious and comfortable. Debbie, the property manager, was terrific to work with and helpful both before and during our stay. Only drawback was the TV, which was difficult to operate and poor picture quality.

Everything was as listed. Great communication with representative. Clean, open floor plan. Nice view of the sound and saw dolphins one evening. Nice time of year to visit.

Great place to stay but the steps are hard on bad knees and needs spraying for cockroaches. I bought some spray and treated the house.

We took my Mother to Ocracoke. She had not been in 50 years and wish to see it again. She absolutely loved Sound Side as did my Wife and I. Clean, well kept, and not to many steps which was important, with a very nice beach and great view of the sound. We hope to visit Sound Side again.

Quaint little cottage. We love that the property is right on the sound. A few steps and you are on a sandy beach and a few more puts you in the sound.

The house was perfect for the 3 of us. It was a little more spacious than the pictures show. Has everything you need. Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view of the water. Loved walking out the back door to the beach. Good communication with Debbie. Would stay again!

Great house, ur own spot in the pond with a sandy shoreline! Bring ur float, relax, read a book in classic Adirondack chairs. Found a great clamming spot, be sure to get ur off-road permit and explore the ocean side. Just loved it all!

The Sound House was Ocracoke perfection.
It is just as described. It was clean, the beds comfortable, the kitchen had everything needed and the back yard with water access was icing on the cake!

Back in our favorite cottage
We stayed in Sound House for years, when it had a different name. For a while it 2as off the rental market, but now it's back and much improved! We love Northern Pond - the kayaking, clamming, crabbing, and swimming. Sometimes, we made our way to the ocean butt so much tho did right there at the sound!

Beach Vacation
Sound House is in an amazing location on Ocracoke Island. We really enjoyed the beautiful and relaxing water view and very comfortable accommodations. The cottage is very well cared for and had everything that we needed. We will definitely see if Sound House is available when we are able to return to Ocracoke.

Great place, great location!
Perfect place for the two of us and would be great for a small family as well. The reservation, check-in, and overall communication with Debra was easy (thank you). The ‘cottage’ was a little less modern than the usual beach McMansion commonly found at OBX, but it had all the modern convivences all laid out on one floor (no dishwasher, but we wouldn’t have used it if there was one). The kitchen was well laid out, with everything we needed minus the clutter. So many beach houses have drawer after crowded drawer of duplicate/junk utensils it’s hard to find what you need. This was well equipped, without the clutter. I also loved the open/door-less cabinets on one side of the room. Again, in most houses it takes several days to finally learn learning behind which door one finds the dishes, bowls, glasses, etc. Here, everything was easy to find. Plenty of counter space for food prep, plus a table for eating, and a separate desk for puzzles and such in the common area. Interesting reading material too. We’ve rented about a half dozen places in Ocracoke, and this one is the best yet. Thanks for a great stay.

We had such a wonderful time at Sound House and were extremely reluctant to leave. Ideal location with amazing sound views and all the amenities we needed. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I really enjoyed our time at the Sound House. We loved sitting on the beach and swimming in the sound. We hope to return very soon.
