There were holes in the walls which means there were bugs in the room and it was very cold, even additional blankets didn't help. The sink was on the balcony not in the room. Wifi worked only in common area.

Cool treehouse-like building with a great view. Really friendly staff. Comfy bed and well stocked kitchen. Good wifi. Moved here from the Lost and Found hostel and enjoyed it much more.
It’s quite rustic so don’t expect a hot shower and luxury, but it’s a great experience!

The host was very nice and helpful
very run down. close to the highway so very noisy all night. No hot water. No towels. The sink is outside on the balcony. It was maybe funky and cute 50 years ago but so was I!

Roots hostel is a unique place set up like a tree house with a great view ( when the weather is good) of the volcano baru. The owner was friendly and happy to give us advice on activities. It was raining a lot during our stay, but we still enjoyed the cozy dorm and hung out on the terrace reading.
Everything fine.

David is a friendly host and very helpful. He pointed out the way to nice places to visit and eat at. We especially loved the tour from one of the local coffee farmers.

Nice staff, cute dog, great to be so close to nature, kitchen, balcony.
Pillows weren't great, if you sleep in room number 2 you can literally hear everything. Or at least if you have really considerate other guests living there that stomp around like elephants and scream like baboons at 6 in the morning, than you will not have a good time there. The last bus from David goes there at 18.00 try to get there in time otherwise the taxi drivers will try to rip you off.

A cool treehouse room! Small and simple but just what we were looking for for one night on our way to Bocas. Shared kitchen was perfect too. Even had enough time to walk to the hotsprings (2 hour walk).
More comfortable sitting areas with a view would be nice but otherwise really great place.

The location is excellent on your way to Bocas and the idea of the hostel is great, the owner very friendly. Its a cool place, but do not expect anything special.
Sheets not exactly clean, the advertised private "bathroom" was a trickling pipe for a shower and no sink. The room was more like a cave that you could barely stand up in. Cool idea, but way over-selled, hence couldn't meet expectations.

the amazing place and breathtaking view
nothing - it is for backpackers

It's one of the few places on the road between David and Bocas del Toro
Everything is made of wood with lots of gaps so there's insects everywhere. There is no sink or light in the tiny bathroom. The towels at the sink and kitchen were unclean. There were black parts in the water that the owner says comes straight from the mountain. We also had the bad luck of it raining throughout our stay which meant everything was wet and didn't dry. On Saturday there was a party somewhere nearby and you could hear it everywhere, loudly.
I would recommend to stay for a night in the David area and then drive straight to your ferry to Bocas del Toro. Even though it was cheap, we couldn't wait to get out of there.

Nice views, friendly host and fair price
It's a tree house, there's no hot water and the beds are very basic (no separate sheets). Consider this when booking here and don't complain afterwards.

everything home-made out of wood, many activities in the proximity, kitchen with lot of equipment, great view to a valley and hills below from the common area, the owner brought beers and coconuts one night :)
right next to the road, a few heavy trucks passing making a lot of noise, as the whole place is made out of wood, rooms are not separated by proper walls and you can hear other people talking, see light coming from their room etc., but did not personally bother me

David was amazing host. Thanks to him it was possible to do coffee tour, canyons, horse riding and waterfalls in 2 days. Even gave us a lift after we kinda missed the last bus. Great hostel, highly recommended.

If you are looking for a place to relax but want to be close to a main road, some food options and lots of nature, this is the perfect place! The house is definitely built with love and David, the owner, is really helpful and makes sure to make you feel welcome. There is nothing healthier than to wake up and take a cold fresh shower with water from
the mountains, definitely a dream!
Our bedroom was underneath the “common area” and we could hear everyone talking and walking above us, so if you are willing to have super quiet and early sleep nights, ask David for the best option.
